Did you see Hillary Clinton’s speech on economics today? I couldn’t watch it live and am still looking for a link to a transcript or video, but according to The Washington Post, Clinton “focused on largely familiar proposals, including measures to make college debt-free, increase corporate profit-sharing, expand access to child care and ensure that large companies and the ‘super rich’ pay their ‘fair share’ of taxes.” WaPo also said Clinton vowed to get “dark money” out of politics. That doesn’t sound like a Republican-Lite conservadem to me. Go figure.
Meanwhile, Trump gave a speech today in which he read whopper after big fat whopper off a teleprompter screen. And it seems to have dawned on Bernie Sanders that perhaps the primary outcome won’t be in his favor:
Sen. Bernie Sanders acknowledged for the first time Wednesday “it doesn’t appear” he’ll be the Democratic presidential nominee.
The Vermont senator, speaking during a taped C-SPAN interview, said his presidential campaign is negotiating on an “almost on a daily basis” with presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s team, urging her to stake out the most progressive positions she can on campaign finance reform, health care, higher education and the economy.
Sanders said he and Clinton have had “real differences of opinion.” But he said he’ll do everything he can to defeat presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump and bring as many people into the political process as possible.
“Our job now is to have her (Clinton) listen to what millions of people in this country who supported me want to see happen,” Sanders said during a wide-ranging hourlong interview with C-SPAN’s Steve Scully.
Jesus Fricasseed Christ and all 12 Cajun-Fried Apostles, I just cannot with the fucking Sanders ex-campaign anymore. Open thread!

I thought that Trump peddled steaks, not burgers. I have not been able to see or listen to either speech, but am looking forward to checking out Clinton’s speech later. I have read snippets that Trump is just gassing about the same crap that he always blathers on about.
One thing I found annoying about coverage of the speeches. The CBS radio station noted that Trump was going to talk about “Crooked Hillary.” It blurred the line between quoting Trump and internalizing his anti-Clinton label and using it as part of a news story. Sadly, I expect more of this.
Bernie is becoming a parody of himself. If he were smart, he would try to at least head into the July 4 holiday weekend fully signed on to supporting Clinton.

I thought HRC speech was very good. Skipped the Trump stump attack on HRC, but did see some stories listing what each news org thought were most important lies and BS. Which taken together, seems to be the whole speech.

There’s still the logistical failures of Trump’s campaign to 1) get a ground game going, 2) get corporations to pay for the Cleveland convention, 3) focus on GOTV efforts.
I really feel that any money flowing into Trump’s efforts will mostly go to him and not his campaign. the media is going to buy whatever Narrative floats their boat, that will not change until the entire profession changes. But we’ve seen before how the Narrative does not alter the facts of the real world, that a bad campaign is going to flounder and die no matter how pretty the media paints the corpse.

Did they attempt at all to differentiate between Bernie Sanders supporters and Bernie Sanders voters? Because as Major Major Major Major reminded us just a while ago, a fair number of the Bernie Sanders voters aren’t even liberals, much less proto-revolutionaries, and may not care very much about Bernie Sanders’s wishlist or agenda. Of course a shit-ton of the Sanders crowd (online at least) happily collapses all the strains of the Sanders vote in order to pretend that 42% of the Democratic Party is chomping at the bit for social democracy and thinks Hillary Clinton is a neoliberal corporatist warmongering quisling. Aimai and I just were doing battle in comments at LGM with Max Sawicky, who clearly wants to believe that Sanders is the figurehead for a surging groundswell of radicals. The current fantasy football pick, of course, is Elizabeth Warren for VP because Hillary “needs her guidance” and her moral compass to pick the Supreme Court. I love Liz Warren like no one else but how these people think that they get to tell the next POTUS who to do her job is beyond me. I believe that resentment against women is profound and takes a lot of different pathways for expression — even citing “good” women like Warren to help the “bad” women like Hillary — you know, kinda a riff on “my nig—r”.. Half the stuff Hillary is blamed for isn’t even stuff she was in charge of — like Obama’s foreign policy — and yet, she gets blamed as though it was HER administration. Same with Bill’s policies — some of which she did later advocate for and made some mistakes, but geez, can anyone point to spotless resumes where they never made mistakes then learned from them? Again, its deeply instinctual. Trump’s criticisms of Hillary are largely emotional mud slinging rather than really well defined reasons why whatever she is accused of doing is so bad…. SHE is a SHE… This is unforgivable.
aimai
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Prezackley! This is a discussion I’ve had with a lot of people online. Its really like they just can’t bring themselves to acknowledge the millions of people who voted for her and her policies. I finally asked someone if they thought that if Bernie and his voters were anti abortion whether Hillary was obligated to follow his line and abandon her own lifelong commitment to women’s rights? Crickets. The fact that she had the temerity to say, in an interview, when Rachel Maddow asked her what concessions she’d make to Bernie “Look, I won” was taken by this goon as the utmost in horrific rudeness–she “laughed at Bernie’s voters” and basically told them to take a hike, was the way he put it. In bizarro world Bernie’s voters are always, always, the injured party. Hillary Clinton has no real policies, certainly none of any value, so why should she defend them and why would her voters care if Bernie’s obviously much better policies were substituted. Hell, we’d probably prefer Bernie’s policies if only we knew!

All of a sudden she was best friends with the guy. May I never become such a tribal liberal that I stoop to making a fool of myself.

@aimai: I remember the BernieBro or Bro-ette who said Booman really gets it but you don’t neener neener. That comment thread was as illuminating as the typical Booman thread and I don’t mean that as a compliment to Booman’s commenters, most of whom are incredibly shallow and arrogant. (Though I also have observed some very insightful commenters, such as Ms. rikyrah and yourself along with a few others).

I just saw the Bernie interview and sheesh, I can’t believe he is still running the same shtick. He looks thinner and a bit depressed or maybe that is just me. He was missing that Jeremiah rage though remains stubbornly reciting the same ” the system is rigged and unfair” type of delusion that he has had. What a sad sad person. “He coulda been somebody”….

I wouldn’t be surprised if Warren and Clinton are putting us on a bit. Warren will be vetted, Hillary will offer her VP, and Warren will turn it down. If it is for real, and Hillary picks her, then they better have a plan for MA before they screw up the Senate.

@Troublesome Carp fka Geeno: Sherrod Brown was there.

I’m always surprised when people are narrow like that… and it says you don’t think that a person with different point of view is not a patriot just like you… Didn’t we hear that from the right wingers? That are people with specific technical knowledge and expertise that are unrelated to their politics. I would want to have as much contact with information and knowledge that could help me manage the US complex foreign policy and relations with other countries… even what I just wrote is an over simplification….

I would be unsurprised to learn that the last time Brent Scowcroft voted R for president was in 2000, and I think HRC is going to get the votes of a lot of prominent Republicans, many of whom I despise.

@Tim C.: Good on Wyden and Merkley. Did DeFazio show up?

@different-church-lady:
But I haven’t founded Moo-veOn.org, yet. We need to steer this country to bluer pastures! Straight talk, no bull.
Ok, now I’m just trying to milk this a bit too much.
Corner Stone
@PatrickG: It does seem a little bit too well done.

@Betty Cracker: It’s the same double-sided coin that makes Obama a clueless, ineffectual stooge of a president (teleprompter Har! Har!) who can also single-handedly take everyone’s guns and destroy America.

@Elie: Besides which, I don’t think Scowcroft falls into the same GOP category as W.’s neocons. I disagreed with George HW Bush on many issues, but foreign policy was the least of them. Unless your goal is a Kucinich-like approach to foreign affairs, I don’t see what puts Scowcroft beyond the pale.
And I think Scowcroft represents a canary in the coal mine: there are a solid amount of oft-times Republican voters who match his profile, and, while they may have swallowed McCain & Romney, they’re not going to be able to rationalize voting for Trump. Some may park their votes with Johnson, but I think a not-insignificant number will go all the way to Hillary, and inflate her margin of victory.

I dunno guys, you’re all sitting here in a circle jerk about the Bernie fans, and you’re completely ignoring the really salient point: there is a very large part of your citizenry that has had it with business as usual. By far the vast majority of them are “the kids”, and there are very good reasons for them to feel that way.
What are all you boomers gonna do when you’re too old to take care of yourselves and all the kids are too busy trying to put food on the table to take care of you? If you’d like to get a handle on what that looks like, you can look back about a century or so and get a handle on it.
Might not be a bad idea to stop with the circle jerk and pay attention.

@Elie:
I agree! I even think Sec. Clinton will talk to Sen. Sanders productively, though I do understand he’s much more repugnant than a Republican. And she is certainly mature enough to consider thoughtfully how to balance the desires of her voters (the majority) with those of the minority who supported Sanders
I sure wish my fellow Clinton supporters would get over themselves. Sanders may be a sore loser – not a good look – but, damn, sore winners are the worst.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@BrianM: yes, I’m sure you’re a very sincere Clinton supporter just so darn frustrated, and Concerned, that folks are being so mean to Bernie!

@SiubhanDuinne: We are big shakespeare fans in this house and we’ve been demanding that for weeks!

@PatrickG: I literally LOL’d.

@Adam L Silverman: Sorry, yes you did post it. I remember now. i forgot about that.

@FlipYrWhig:
And there’s the question: How many Sanders supporters were qualified to vote, showed up, and actually cast a ballot for Senator Sanders?
Because that number is obviously not greater than the number of Sanders supporters out there making noise. Much less than, actually.
I'mNotSureWhoIWantToBeYet
@the Conster, la Citoyenne: It was nice of Bernie to say he was tired of hearing about her damn e-mails at that debate. That’s one thing. ;-)
Cheers,
Scott.

@Corner Stone:
That’s because it’s tough for him to enunciate that while he’s giving Trump yet-another BJ.

@BrianM:
Except when the sore losers don’t lift a finger to prevent a President Trump. Then it’s pretty immaterial how sore-winnerish some blog commenters are.
Still waiting for Sen. Sanders actually to do something other than mouth platitudes [vis-a-vis the actual race that will (officially) start in a few weeks].

@eemom: She’s jealous of Mrs. Clinton.
