Bixby Update

Bixby turned five today. I’m a terrible pet person because I don’t necessarily remember or celebrate birthdays or adoption days. This year, was of course, different. So grateful we have this day. Emma turned 16 this week, too. So big week here.

Again, thanks for going on the journey with me – both his puppy adventures and this past April. I was so comforted by your comments, emails, phone calls and offers of financial help.  Could not have gotten through it without you guys. I cannot emphasize how close we were to losing him.

He’s down to PT once a month and we are almost walking our normal distances again.

The rest of the crew is doing great too. For the Penelope/Pearl fans – she’s STILL growing. I keep telling her she’s the Great Dane of ducks. And she’s found her honk – OMG, has she found her honk. Hopefully, that will diminish as she gets older.

    Thanks for sharing your pups and ducks – a balm for these troubled times. Bixby regaining his health must be such a relief to you and spotty lass Scout.
    Pearl seems like such a personality and boo companion.

    I hope Bixby has all his old spirit back – dogs generally don’t do a whole lot of “looking back” so maybe he’s forgotten, or will forget, how awful that time was. He looks terrific.

    Any chance you could record Pearl’s Mighty Honk? Would love to hear it! Does the “OMG” refer to the volume, or the quantity? (Not just a loud duck, but a loud and chatty duck?)

    Happy birthday, Bixby.

    Our son called today to wish Mr DAW a happy Father’s Day, and he told us they adopted a new rescue dog. It’s a chocolate lab named Brown Bear. Dogs are great creatures.

    @CaseyL: I tease her that she’s really a goose, but no, she’s a Pekin duck, they just top out at about 11 lbs, where my next biggest duck is all of 7 lbs (Mabel) and Maddie about 5 lbs.

    Happy birthday Bix and Emma. Bixby looks so sweet.

    I haven’t seen my dad in a few weeks but it turns out he is sick today, too. I worry when he is because he’s soooooooo thin since his heart surgeries.

    Ok. She has a new primary care doctor so I asked if I could go with her and talk with her about some changes I’ve noticed. She agreed. We’ll go next week. This week is he last week of school so there are a bunch of things going on.

    Since I didn’t know about this dog, I thought Bixby as in Samsung’s assistant Boxby. But then I saw a dog, and was like, oh. It isn’t Samsung’s Bixby at all. It’s a dog. I should have known

    @Dorothy A. Winsor: Brown Bear is what my Luna’s breeders were going to call her when they were debating whether or not to keep her (she was the last pup left in the litter when I visited). She was technically a ‘red’ Siberian Husky, but her fur was chocolate brown when she was a puppy. And always baby-fine soft, even when she was grown.

    I miss her so much. : (
