Rep. Stefanik's expression at the end of the hearing when the crowd is applauding Yovanovitch says it all. pic.twitter.com/jMjLDLugF9

I think the ambassador left with Stefanik's dignity too.

Bananas how some politicians are so dedicated to keeping trump supporters that they begin to mimic Trump’s speaking style. Stefanik went to Harvard. She trained Paul Ryan for the VP debate. This is not how she speaks. https://t.co/gWWVAcXrzo
— Jessica Huseman (@JessicaHuseman) November 17, 2019
The main lesson we should draw from Stefanik turning into Matt Gaetz is that some younger members of the GOP are betting that Trumpism will still define the party even in a post-Trump world. See this piece by @atrupar https://t.co/gHqkLl8SF4 https://t.co/JF72t3olYB

Stefanik has really trashed her reputation in these hearings and in ways that haven't actually advanced the Republicans cause at all. It's a very bizarre move. Why not just let Nunes and Jordan, who have little to lose by way of reputation, do the dirty work instead?
— Susan Hennessey (@Susan_Hennessey) November 15, 2019
also the House GOP needed a fresh angle between Nunes being a dud, their counsel protecting his own rep and Jim Jordan being…..Jim Jordan.
— Gator MaClunkey (@Zeddary) November 17, 2019
Elise Stefanik revealed herself to be a Jim Jordan in training.
Tedra Cobb is her opponent next year.

.@RepStefanik’s partisan political theatre is beneath the dignity of her office. She skipped several important private hearings— now with the cameras on, she has repeatedly attempted to derail the public hearings. Stefanik should take her oath to the Constitution seriously. #NY21

It was most enjoyable to see Twitter followers and donations rise for Tedra Cobb over the weekend.
The only thing that seems to have gotten under Elise’s skin is when George Conway called her trash.

Wraithdom comes for everyone. Some sooner, others later.

But the NYTimes just told me she’s the GOP’s “emerging star” from the hearings. I have no idea how to link on new site.

@Mary G: It wasn’t so much that she acted like trash, she really came across as “crazy ex-girlfriend”?
Calouste
“Stefanik went to Harvard.” Well, so did Jared Kushner. That your parents can write a big check doesn’t make you smart.
jl
He (or she) who sups with the devil should use a long spoon.
Sad picture of Stefanik. Looks like a person who has just been through some things.

@Mary G:
Would’ve loved to have seen a reply of, “I’m trash? Look who you voluntarily married?”
Chetan Murthy
@mrmoshpotato: Hair-pulling! Cock-punching! Injuries!

Stefanik apparent never heard, or disregarded, the traditional maternal warning, “Your face will freeze like that.”
And now it is frozen in that sneer, thanks to the photographer who snapped this shot. Listen to your mothers, folks.
mrmoshpotato
@Chetan Murthy: Popcorn and soda, or beer and pretzels?
oldgold
In the race to rise up in the GOP Congressional ranks the obsequious lane is completely full and the competition is stiff.
Given this, one would think at least a few young aspiring GOP members of Congress might try rising up running in the maverick lane. Granted it would be a tricky run, but you might make a name for yourself and sleep well.
mrmoshpotato
@Ohio Mom: LMAO!
Chetan Murthy
I agree with Don Moynihan, that she’s doing it to cement her bona fides with Shitler’s base. There’s no way to run in the “maverick lane” and do that, too. She’s made her choice.
Marcopolo
For any BJers who would like to engage in some physical protesting to support impeachment, a group called Impeach & Remove (no I don’t have a lot of info on them) is hoping to get folks who are represented in Congress by Republicans to show up at their offices the night before the actual impeachment vote.

ah, so she’s always been good at picking winning horses to back.
dexwood
May that picture haunt her forever. No photo manipulation needed. Her inner ugly shines straight on through.
Raoul
@oldgold: You have to be smart, and cunning, and at least a little brave to really do the maverick lane. I though John McCain’s schtick was often fairly bogus, but he had some gumption.
There is no evidence that there is a single GOP member of either chamber who has gumption. Mitt comes the closest. And that’s freakin’ sad.

@Ohio Mom: “that sneer”
Seems more like a disdainful pout to me. A bigly mega-pout.

The Republicans believe that all they need to do win is keep their ignorant, hateful, bigot voters fired up because: a) it’s worked before and b) they don’t have another plan.
Jay
Marcopolo
@Raoul: Honestly Justin Amash might have fit the description, but as we can see with what happened to him the idea of being a “maverick” is no longer tolerated in the Trumpublican party. I might also consider Murkowski in the Senate–she has had the experience of winning her seat as a right-in candidate against an R wing nut.

That’s right; send him to all the red states!

Not only did the NYTimes apparently do a puff piece about how she’s a new star, they “forgot” to include the fact this was all based on her lying about being silenced. The NY Times isn’t this bad by accident.
Cacti
There are no “good ones”. The GOP has turned full fledged neo-fascist personality cult.
Jay
@Cacti:
What about all the dead and buried, ( or cremated) ones?
Raoul
@Marcopolo: Amash has integrity. Clearly that is grounds for expulsion from the GOP.
I see Murkowski’s name bandied about a fair bit, but she doesn’t seem to do much, does she? I guess keeping one’s head down is the thing in these times. A thing that doesn’t feel mavericky, but I’m not in her state, so I may be poorly informed about her.
Redshift
Keep their voters fired up, and engage in every kind of voter suppression and gerrymandering they can think of.
To be more fair than they deserve, I don’t think there is another plan that has any chance of working in the near term. The course back to being a normal political party would almost certainly result in many current members losing their positions, and in addition to not being selfless enough to put party over country, they’re not even selfless enough to put party over MEEEEEEEE!
Jay
Chetan Murthy
Truth. If they were to ditch their racism, misogyny, and homophobia, they might be able to keep their plutocrat-servicing, and eventually attract wealthy, successful people from the ranks of progressives. But the path between today, and that hypothetical future, involves a shit-ton of GrOPers losing their seats and power. A real …. “evolutionary bottleneck”. I -do- believe this would be possible: I mean, there are lots of people of color who like their money and all. They just like their necks more, and know that when other people of color are being oppressed, it ain’t likely to stay contained …. and that’s why they’re progressive.

But getting him to tour south TX might be interesting too. Or the Central Valley of CA.

I’ve got no camera-awareness worth speaking of (plus facial paralysis) and even I don’t think I could delude myself that that particular arrangement of facial muscles is suitable for public use, let alone anywhere near a lens.

@Doug R: I’m actually wondering about where Amash will go from here. I’ve noticed that a lot of Republicans, once they realize that the party is flatly wrong about some issue, start to notice the many, many other places where the party is out to lunch. (See, for example, any of the recent writings of Max Boot.)

She is disgusting. She started these shenanigans at the very beginning of the hearings. It was so clearly planned for her to be the attack bitch. Sorry for my sexist language.

No surprise there. Trump doesn’t give a shit about America either, just how much he can steal from her. He can’t even spell emoluments, much less define it or obey the law regarding it.

Man, that’s a Mean Girl sneer. I’d laugh except she’s in the House of Fucking Representatives. What a vile little creature.
Miss Bianca
@Llelldorin: I wonder too, since my RWNJ brother in Michigan describes Amash as a “traitor”. Either Amash’s district is more forgiving than East Detroit (ooh, sorry, “Eastpointe”, now, so we can pretend we’re more like Grosse Pointe and less like Detroit), or he’ll have to find another line of work!

@Ohio Mom:
Looks more like a vapid pout to me. Someone somewhere (probably a jackal, but possibly a Rick Hasen responder) commented that at the end of the session her fellow cultists immediately distanced themselves from her, which if true might explain a pout.
E2A: as JL noted a few comments down: “mega-pout”.
