Look on my works, ye mortals, and despair!
Trump says he is taking hydroxychloroquine, a drug FDA has cautioned about using for COVID-19. He started "a couple weeks ago"
"I think it's good. I've heard a lot good stories. And if it's not good, I'll tell you right, I'm not going to get hurt by it" https://t.co/Nj065CIsxp pic.twitter.com/eFPC0g1Vns— CBS News (@CBSNews) May 18, 2020
Trump says he has evidence that the experimental treatment works: "Here's my evidence: I get a lot of positive calls about it."
— Vivian Salama (@vmsalama) May 18, 2020
Granpa started talking like this, you’d take away his car keys & checkbook. Even the Media Observers are beginning to doubt the ‘long con’ theory:
"He says he's taking it. He could have had a ham sandwich for lunch and it was really tuna fish. We don't know." @edokeefe on POTUS disclosure that he's been taking hydroxychloroquine.
— Christina Ruffini (@EenaRuffini) May 18, 2020
Trump really outflanking Dems on poisoning yourself.
— Tentin Quarantino (@agraybee) May 18, 2020
Maybe it's time to circle back to when Trump made an emergency unplanned detour to Walter Reed.
— Tentin Quarantino (@agraybee) May 18, 2020
Trump isn’t taking hydroxychloroquine. The question is why exactly is he saying he is?
— Dana Houle (@DanaHoule) May 18, 2020
He lies about everything, but its also entirely possible he actually thinks he is taking hydroxychloroquine and his doctor is lying to him.
— Elsworth Amasa (@wfrolik) May 18, 2020
?? This statement – over three hours in the making – does not say the President was prescribed hydroxyhloruqine or that he is actually taking it and makes no mention of other medicines – zinc and Azithromycin – President said he is taking. @CBSNews https://t.co/zpry05qSrH
— Paula Reid (@PaulaReidCBS) May 19, 2020
as much as I want to believe trump has talked his doctor into feeding him what’s probably poison we all know they’re just giving him a baby aspirin https://t.co/BlkmG3s6st
— kilgore trout, lizard king (@KT_So_It_Goes) May 19, 2020
frankly I would like him to gobble it by the fistful. purely for science.

I don’t think it’s hilarious or trivial or a distraction. Look, he’s either taking a drug that he shouldn’t or he’s lying about it. In the middle of the worst pandemic in the 100 years. With 90 thousand dead. Everyone is too “savvy” nowadays. This is completely insane.

germy
Because of what Rick Bright said about the drug during his testimony.

The Moar You Know
Like I said yesterday, I supervised a team going into a malaria-prone part of Africa back in the early 10s. So we all had to take anti-malarials. And Trump isn’t taking chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine, because otherwise he’d be doing what most of my team ended up doing, which is waking up screaming in utter terror each and every night.
(Yes, I do acknowledge that Trump might do this and consider it completely normal)
I took doxycycline. Which has issues of its own, but no-sleep terror nights is not one of them.
Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine is not to be fucked with even at low anti-malarial doses, never mind what they give you for COVID.
Ruckus
Quoted from above,
How could you tell the difference with or without?

Well, Fat Bastard wins another round: we’re talking about this silly shit while taking our eyes off the IG firings and the increase in Covid cases due to “reopening” (whatever the fuck that is). Good job, Reality Gameshow Host!

The WH physician’s statement is very carefully worded. With Trump, we have no way of knowing what’s happening. Just the thing to set people off in a pandemic.

All the workings of everything shitforbrains is doing – wrong BTW – is fixable. But it takes time and 3 working branches of the government. The executive is broken, shitforbrains broke it.
Congress is broken, moscow mitch broke it.
The judiciary is breaking, GWB, shitforbrains and moscow mitch have been/are working on that.
Only time will tell if it can all be fixed, to get back to even semi normal. And that’s up to all of us, to elect actual human beings to run our government.

@Dorothy A. Winsor: The letter does not say Dr. Conley prescribed the hydroxychloroquine, nor does it confirm Trump is taking it.
They had discussions and concluded its benefits outweighed the potential risks.
More interesting for what the letter does not say. It does not confirm Trump’s statement, at all.
Frankensteinbeck
@Comrade Scrutinizer:
I guarantee you that Trump does not consider the whole country laughing at him as a moron to be winning, no matter what it’s distracting from. Trump has never won even one of these rounds. It seems like it because he produces such a neverending stream of horrible scandals that one thing he would want a distraction from is constantly replaced by another thing he would want a distraction from.

As I mentioned last night, Jared has inventory to move, so Donald is giving a testimonial for the cultists. I want to piss test him and see if he’s actually taking the stuff. His word is of no use at all. He’s a pathological liar.
I took chloroquine when I was in Central America on TDY as a malaria prophylactic, and don’t recall having any terrible dreams. There were also a bunch of advisories on things not to do while you were on it. Well, there was that time I got the Comayagua crud, but that lasted for about three days.
WaterGirl
@Elizabelle: He also doesn’t include the timeframe for the discussions they had, or when they concluded that its benefits outweighed the person risks.
The person who wrote that is very good at parsing the statements in order to mask the truth.
ThresherK
@Lacuna Synecdoche: So, you’re wondering if Trump was an early adopter of this miracle drug?
I would believe that.
Jinchi
The thing is, Trump is definitely stupid enough to take the stuff as a preventative measure. If he’s lying it actually makes him look smarter. Then he’d just be a conman, not a conman who falls for his own pitch.
Comrade Scrutinizer
@Chyron HR: Didn’t say anything about the Democratic Party. The Party is doing the best it can right now, and I have no complaints. The problem is the media is easily distracted, and so are the people lapping up this dreck.
Fat Bastard is either taking the drug, in which case he will hopefully suffer the worst possible side effects, Deo volente; or he’s not taking the drug, in which case he’s trolling. Again. Just like he’s done forever. I don’t see that it matters much either way, but by all means chase the shiny.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: adding: I wish we lived in a country where the details of arms sales to the Saudis, or the firing of Inspectors General, were something trump needed to distract people from, but the truth is that people would be more likely to be outraged at the Pompeos using staff as servants, and those cases don’t sound (to me) outrageous enough to get the lumpenmittel to notice, especially these days
jonas
He also explicitly claimed during his comments on taking hydroxychloroquine that he doesn’t own the company or anything, so he’s not saying it to make money. Horseshit. He’s been plugging health products for a long time. Along with “Trump University” and “Trump Steaks”, the Trump org ran an infamous vitamin supplement scam. Of course Trump just “promoted” it and didn’t directly own the company that did the tests and prescribed the pills, so he could walk away when people — and the FDA — started asking questions.
He’s wetting his fat beak in this somehow. I hope some enterprising reporters, if not Congress, start looking into it.
Cheryl from Maryland
Remember, the White House physician isn’t the only doctor to whom Trump has access. Dr. Feel good in NYC could have sent Trump some through Ivanka/Jared (less security). That letter seems to me to be a CYA from the WH physician, who should’ve trying to get out of that job before his naval career is over ASAP.
Jinchi
@Comrade Scrutinizer: This isn’t 11-dimensional chess.
Trolling a story about recklessly taking a drug that has serious side effects doesn’t distract the media from his constant failures fighting the pandemic. It puts an exclamation on the point on the story.
Frankensteinbeck
@Comrade Scrutinizer:
If you’re going to get savvy about what is or is not important to discuss, what is most important is kicking Trump out in November – and shit like the IG firing won’t make a dent in that. What will help get him out is pointing and laughing at simple, obvious acts of stupidity that even the politically unconnected will get. So, yeah, when Trump shits his pants in public, dwelling on that and mocking him is probably the best thing we can do.

Bill Arnold
Not sure why people are thinking that he was prescribed hydroxychloroquine. He is known to take other drugs, and there is no evidence that there were prescriptions for some of them. He may have scored a bunch of pills like a lot of his deluded followers, then asked his doctor if it was safe for him, doctor looked at EKG records for a prolonged QT interval, then said might not kill you. He was reported to be freaking out about people in the white house testing positive.
David ? ☘The Establishment☘? Koch
Whistleblower Dr. Bright was on 60 Minutes the night before discussing how Dump forced him to divert critical resources to this quackery. So Dump feebly tried to dispute the quackery by falsely saying he’s taking the pill and it works.

@The Moar You Know: I saw your comment yesterday and meant to ask you about it but the day got away from me. Guy I know (who is otherwise trustworthy) has been saying HCQ side effects are being blown out of proportion (go look at the listed side-effects for aspirin, for instance, for potentially terrifying side effects that in real life add up to nothing, unless you’ve got severe problems with it); that over millions of doses for malaria the adverse effects from chloroquine are negligible statistically; and that in studies where HCQ plus azithromycin plus zinc have been administered early enough, symptom severity has been cut, and shortened. You, unlike most commentators and pundits, seem to have actual experience with the stuff; can you say a little more about what your experiences and observations were? Really, just asking because I know nothing about any of this.
HumboldtBlue
@Brachiator:
I disagree completely. There is no reason to sully Obama with a meeting with Trump. We can’t do anything about Trump’s racism and if that means stalling the official portrait than I am all for it.
Holding the ceremony would only allow Trump a photo op with the country’s most popular man and to use it for partisan and personal gain as he does with literally everything else.
It wouldn’t be about Obama and the portrait it would be about how magnanimous and kind Trump is.
Fuck that noise.
Brachiator
@HumboldtBlue:
I don’t see how Obama would be “sullied” by attending the ceremony. This weird gentility makes no sense.
Actually, we can. And we need to.
Trump has been trying to erase everything that Obama did as president. To the idiot GOP base, Obama is not the most popular president ever.
I would love to see Trump be forced to acknowledge Obama.
As it is, Obama himself does not appear to be hot to attend any ceremony, but the entire thing is an unfortunate mess.

Ohio Mom
Late to this thread but as someone who takes hydroxychloroquine for RA and suffers no obvious side effects except for occasional heartburn (there is a reason the pills have a really thick enamel-like coating), I was curious about the reported paranoia and delusions.
I know what my dose is, and looked up the dose for malaria. Whoa!!! That is a HUGE amount.
I’m guessing that whatever the “recommended” (I don’t think anyone legit is recommending this) Covid dose is, it is no where near the level given for malaria (which looks to be a short course).
dimmsdale
@Ohio Mom: Well, my only concern is that either a possibly effective treatment for COVID is being dissed because of the Trump connection (I’d be suspicious myself, who wouldn’t?), or there’s a lot of adverse reactions out there that no one can point to but that keep getting referred to, and hydroxychloroquine is as dangerous as everyone says. I take it your experience with the stuff is benign?
