Here is Cong Paul Gosar (R-AZ) and ex-Cong Steve King (R-IA) proudly posing with white supremacist, Holocaust denier and Jan 6 insurrectionist Nick Fuentes at his white supremacist AFPAC event yesterday. @GOPLeader @HouseGOP pic.twitter.com/7Eti7yn9Ss

When the white-supremacist dogwhistling at CPAC is just too subtle for its audience.
Second year of this creepshow, and so far it’s a one-day conclave. A mere Representative as its ‘surprise’ keynote speaker, backed up by an ex-Congressman best known for his vocal racism (and private grifting in office). But its organizers cherish big, big Lebensraum dreams…
AFPAC, or the America First Political Action Conference, is an event organized by Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist who attended Unite the Right in 2017. It’s taking place concurrently with CPAC.

At "America First" conference U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona just spoke at, host Nicholas Fuentes says to cheers that if America "loses its white demographic core and if it loses its faith in Jesus Christ, then this is not America any more."
— Steven Dennis (@StevenTDennis) February 27, 2021
The keynote by Nick Fuentes at AFPAC also included jokes about @CawthornforNC, Gosar’s colleague, who uses a wheelchair. Fuentes mocked how often Cawthorn says he’ll “take a stand.”
“‘I’m gonna take a stand?’ How? How are you gonna do that?”
— Dave Weigel (@daveweigel) February 27, 2021
Fuentes is now calling for further action like the Capitol attack on Jan 6th
"To see the tables turned for once was a little bit refreshing."
He adds that "to see that Capitol under siege… we need a little bit more of that." https://t.co/Mxy8yVsD6D

Sweet Jesus pouring sugar into a gasoline tank, this site loads with all the alacrity and quickness of cold molasses in a freezer.
On a more positive note, here’s a war letter you don’t read every day and may I say I would have liked Ann.

How does his head not just off and shatter like glass with the way he talks out of both sides of his mouth at once?
RaflW
About the Nick Fuentes thing, first of all, it’s just shocking that neo-Nazis are already going after a person in a wheelchair. I mean, who ever heard of such a thing?
Also, since one can see that Fuentes spackled a veneer of humor over his attack, this is spot on:
Major Major Major Major
Glad this is the first I’ve seen from AFPAC idk guess I haven’t been spending that much time on Twitter.
@HumboldtBlue: dreadful, isn’t it?
HumboldtBlue
@Major Major Major Major:
It is, but I’m convinced it’s on my end as a Firefox user, it’s only been with the latest FF updates this started.
Achrachno
@RaflW: On Fuentes: is he being watched by law enforcement, as I’d hope? Are there other crimes where you can be involved and out advocating more and not get called in for questioning?

Second!Trump is the rightful “ruler”? Scary language.mrmoshpotato
@HumboldtBlue:
@Major Major Major Major: It’s slow in Firefox on my phone, but Duckduckgo is loading it just fine. (10 seconds for Twitter embeds to show up)

Expected from this fascist trash. And fuck them.

@HumboldtBlue: a site like this doesn’t need so much javascript that it’s ever tough on a browser. Safari mobile is pretty bad for me.

Doesn’t sound American to me,
Just saying
“Are you Italian? Or worse?”

And that’s what’s so confusing, I’m currently on desktop, and it’s slow. I also have a slow-ass computer.

AFPAC- I did Nazi that coming.

@Amir Khalid: It’s also amazingly illogical, not that I would expect logic from them:
“So Trump is the rightful ruler, which means Biden is the actual ruler. That means we are forced to do whatever Biden says?”
“No! He’s a false ruler, so we don’t have to do what he says.”
“And Trump, as the rightful ruler, if he were in Biden’s place, we’d be forced to do whatever Trump says?”
“Ummm…”
“Which means that under Biden, we’re free, and under Trump, we’re all slaves, right?”
“Ummmm…”

@NotMax:
thanks for the tip. that really sped things up. What’s the downside to disabling it (if any)?
NotMax
@David ? ☘The Establishment☘? Koch
No choice of Visual or Text.
No edit function.
Some other features also are disabled but can be replicated by alternate means.
.
Chris T.
@David ? ☘The Establishment☘? Koch: Lots of stuff doesn’t work with JavaScript disabled. I use NoScript, which lets you selectively enable it, which is kind of a pain: some sites tell you that they don’t work, others just don’t work and you have to figure out why, then enable whichever sub-sites are needed.
(On the plus side, it’s faster and more private.)

I see what you mean. For example, without java some sites have issues. I knew there would be a tradeoff.

Front page usually (maybe always, I gave up trying it) throws error. Been this way for a few months can’t recall when it started.
Visually appears to fully load, but it’s continually reloading if you watch status bar. eventually errors out. Displays blank screen. Message is: “There appears to be a problem”
The only way around it is to navigate into a thread then use arrows to next and prior threads. Seems fine then.
straight up latest Safari in iOS. No blockers. Shouldn’t be hard to replicate to troubleshoot.. Fast fiber service, too. Similar shit on fast laptop. Safari again there but older OS
WIll give Duck Duck Go a try sometime
It ain’t just Firefox. Something is borked. Suspect ad loading.
WhatsMyNym
I’ve found that Twitter is the biggest speed/loading problem . Now using Brave on my Android phone, it let’s you turn off embedded Twitter. You can open them in a new tab. It also has an ad-blocker.
smike
@BellyCat: FWIW, Firefox w/adblocker. No issue with ads, no slowdowns on the site, just the usual comment thing. And I am actually able to use Visual on this comment. Something is bonked. Perplexing.
Zinsky
Yikes! Photoshop the pasty white faces of those three doorknobs on to some brown SS uniforms and they wouldn’t look at all out of place. A perfect photographic rendering of Hannah Arendt’s immortal line about “the banality of evil”.
Basilisc
So if the Jan 6 attack was really an Antifa false-flag operation, and Fuentes proudly took part in it, and Gosar and King back Fuentes, then they all must be … oh man, I’m so confused.
satby
@HumboldtBlue: Not just FF. It’s been awful for months in Silk on Kindle. Mediocre on Chrome on my Android tablet.
satby
@BellyCat: I agree ad loading probably, and not just Zergnet. The [prosper? Prospect?] Whatever, the header and footer ads also bork things up. To the point where if you write a comment while it’s still refreshing you get the duplicate comment message, when it’s not. Only site on the net, and not happening with other WP sites like Drum’s, which admittedly doesn’t have decades of comments to index either.

Meanwhile at the shadow AFPAC convention, Mike Pompeo delivered a forceful speech to the CPAC crowd. He lauded trump for blowing up the Iranian general, and denounced the cancellation of the Keystone pipeline.
Pompeo really leaned into the defense of the fossil fuel industry. I think this is a losing strategy. Polling consistently shows that a 70%+ majority of Americans support measures to combat climate change. And advances in technology mean that the clean energy transition is already well under way.
Even energy state Senators Manchin and Murkowski know that climate change denialism is a dead duck poltically. They basically admit this in their joint energy policy op-ed published by the Washington Post last March.

@Geminid:
Has anyone ever asked these guys what they would do when the coal or oil supply runs out? This shit takes millennia to create.

And in other news of the right wing, Politico reports that former Ambassador to Germany and all-around asshole Richard Grenell has recently met with trump, lining up support for his campaign for California Governor. California jackals may echo the Missouri commenter who often says, “Blech!” That’s a candidacy I am glad I’ll be following from 2500 miles away.

Words have real power, so how about instead of calling these creeps “white nationalists” and “white supremacists” we call them what they are: “radical racists.” Being a nationalist or a supremacist apparently doesn’t seem all that bad to a lot of people. But for whatever reason, racists REALLY hate being called racists because the term apparently strikes a chord. So quit with the euphemisms and call ’em what they are: radical racists.

@debbie: It would take a long time to run out of coal, but it’s elimination as a fuel for electrical generation will likely occur this decade. Horizontal drilling technology perfected at the beginning of this century has allowed a resurgence in American oil and cheap natural gas production, though. Fossil fuel interests want to squeeze profits out of more decades of oil and gas production. But even as Republican politicians make their big talk, the big oil companies are making their preparations to downsize. Slowly, they hope.
Some, like Occidental, are planning to produce by 2040 only “carbon neutral” oil, by pumping carbon dioxide pulled directly from the air into oilfields to recover more oil. Occidental is building a direct-air capture plant on top of it’s Permian Basin holdings that it claims will extract and sequester a million tons of CO2 a year. The oil yielded might fuel aircraft, which require concentrated energy. There is a large tax credit involved, under the laxly audited Q45 program.
debbie
@Geminid:
What they want is other technologies not to start until fossil fuels are totally spent. I worry for the generations around at that time.
Kayla Rudbek
@debbie: these idiots actually believe that oil is still being generated much faster than mainstream geologists think, so that we aren’t going to run out
