I heard from Larime today!
He said all the commissioned art should be finished this week, and he asked me to let everyone know that. So I guess you should all be checking your email over the next few days.
They wanted me to let you all know how much they appreciate how patient everyone has been while they regrouped!
I thought I would dress up the post with pictures of my hibiscus. When I got it last summer, it was just a stick with one tiny leaf at the top, about to unfurl, so I had no idea what it would look like. These are the first two blooms – and they were over two weeks apart. What’s really interesting is how unique each of the flowers is.
With every flower looking different, I think this will be a fun one.
It’s 72 and sunny and I’m sitting on the porch today. First real spring day here!
Totally open thread.

So is he taking new orders?
WaterGirl
@Old School: I think Larime is always taking new orders. :-)
Do I need to dig up the website from the post a few weeks ago?

I love these flowers. I had two several years ago (okay, decades ago), and they were infested with whiteflies. I ended up ditching them, because I had no outdoor space at the time and did not want all of my other plants to get infested as well. I was bummed, because I like flowering plants in general and hibiskim in particular. (Okay, not the actual plural form, but a jewish friend of mine came up with that one and I always liked it [pronounced hee-bisk-eem, for those of you unfamiliar w/ any Hebrew].)

@Old School: Okay, here’s the link to Larime’s store.
It never works for me in Safari, but it opens in Chrome. So if at first you don’t succeed, try a different browser. :-)
That may or may not be the exact wording of the adage we learned in Girl Scouts.
For those who weren’t scouts: If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

Also – here’s a bonus reminder about the Seattle meetup tomorrow!
Seattle Meetup coming up on April 4!
Even if you’ve missed all the previous talk about the meetup, it’s not too late!
Old School
@WaterGirl: Thanks.
Mel
@WaterGirl: Thank you for everything you do, for the blog and for the good people and critters in the blog family who are in need of a bit of help. You are what my grandmother would have called “a kind, bright soul”.

It’s raining up here!
But it is Nosferatu night at a local movie theater! Woo hoo!
Your wife has a beautiful neck.

Re: Hybiscus flower color. I have one that seems to vary with the surrounding temps when it blooms. In cooler weather, the blossoms are a little smaller and much redder. In warm (OK, hot, this is Austin) the blooms are much more yellow as well as being larger.
WaterGirl
@Mel: What a lovely thing to say, thank you so much.
WaterGirl
@central texas: I have one hibiscus (not tropical, that one lives outside in the ground) that blooms one color in the first round of blooming, and then later in the fall it blooms again with a different color.

@WaterGirl: “Make new friends, but keep the old?” ring any bells?
Lovely flowers, glad you can sit outside and enjoy them.

@WaterGirl: And very true!
WaterGirl
@eclare: One is sliver, and the other, gold!
Also, this is a tropical hibiscus, so it’s inside until sometime in May when the last frost has frosted. But it’s still lovely to sit outside.
I have at least 2 HUGE bunnies – fattest I’ve ever seen – and they are eating everything. So sad. I can slam doors, yell at them, and they just sit there. “la la la I can’t hear you!”
Last night I put my over-ripe avocado on the table on the porch, so I threw it in his general direction this afternoon and he ran away. I am hoping that he comes to think that big things fall out of the sky in my yard, and maybe they should think about picking up stakes and heading elsewhere.

Strzok also makes the excellent point that this could be one reason why we haven’t seen charges on the documents crimes yet: Jack Smith (or any prosecutor) would want to wait until they know, understand and (most importantly) have evidence to prove motive to a jury. And some of that evidence simply hasn’t been available yet, due to privilege fights that are only now being resolved to compel testimony.

72 and sunny. Let’s play 2.

Also, warmer than it is here. Which pisses me off. I pay out the nether region for California weather and I’m getting cheated. Hrumph.

Ah, the silent one. (I think both movies are beautiful.) Enjoy!

@WaterGirl: Try a water gun. I don’t know if water works as a deterrent for bunnies, but it does for dogs.

@prostratedragon: Yes. Bought a ticket for Phantom of the Opera next week too. Never seen that on the big screen before.

Brisk mid-50s day in NYC today. Multiple helicopters overheard in Midtown, wasting fuel while undoubtedly breathlessly reporting on the reappearance of Trump in NYC. What will be worse is when the trial actually begins; that assclown will show up every day and stay in Trump Tower and cause an absolute spectacle – and unbelievable amounts of traffic for the daily sojourn from Midtown to the Financial District. That won’t be fun at all.
I hope Bragg’s case is airtight and he’s got some surprises up his sleeve.

So all the counts are felonies?

@UncleEbeneezer: Why not both?

Our ridiculous preening peacock federal judges with lifetime appointments and zero accountability, now pitch months-long hissy fits every time they are questioned, vowing revenge.
Terms limits can’t come fast enough, IMO. Out. Of. Control.
Knock em back down to ordinary public employees who can lose the seat. They’re taking advantage of our generosity. The silly, embarrassing deference they receive has absolutely gone to their heads. Ten and out.
Kay
The point of these threats and monthly hissy fits by the Right wing judges is to shut down any criticism or questions about their work.
It’ll succeed too. These ridiculous, pompous Lords and Ladies must not be questioned or even addressed by the rabble or they issue threats.
Steeplejack
@PsiFighter37:
My fervent hope is that (at least) one of the 30-odd charges in the indictment is such a slam-dunk, open-and-shut, smoking-gun item that all of Trump’s apologists have to publicly eat shit and die immediately.
I’m not putting money on it, though. It’s probably more likely with Jack Smith’s Mar-a-Lago documents case.
WaterGirl
@eclare: Do you mean the little squirt gun things, or a bigger one that can shoot more powerful water from a distance?
WaterGirl
@UncleEbeneezer: One of the talking heads on the podcasts speculated 3 counts for each falsification record (33) + conspiracy.
Who knows?
It would be irresponsible not to speculate!
WaterGirl
@Kay: Can you point me to the backstory on that?
eclare
@Steeplejack: I don’t understand the number of charges. IIRC, TFG reimbursed Cohen in four payments. Even if each one was worthy of a business fraud crime charge and some other campaign finance charge, that gets you to eight.
I am really curious to see what else the grand jury found in those books.
WaterGirl
@eclare: I believe there were somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-12 checks.
Also, if you wrote the check that could be 1. When you falsified your reporting to the FEC (or whoever) that could be 2. When you included that in your taxes (or whatever), that could be 3.
For each of the 10 or 11 checks.
edit: add 1 count of conspiracy with (pick at least one) Picker, Cohen, Weisselberg (sp?).
Or 10 checks + 4 counts of conspiracy.
🤷♀️
eclare
@WaterGirl: I’d go for something you can use from a distance. I know they are cute and called bunnies, but any animal with teeth can bite. I just use a squirt bottle with my dogs, but they are not wild animals.
And, though it is highly, highly unlikely, any mammal can carry rabies.
eclare
@WaterGirl: Oh then that’s my bad. We’ll find out tomorrow, not losing sleep over it. But I bet he is!
Steeplejack
@eclare:
On MSNBC earlier they showed a graphic of eight checks written to Cohen and signed by Trump. And there could be other falsified records related or not related to the Stormy Daniels stuff. We’ll find out tomorrow.

Conservative judge gets flak at Stanford.
eclare
@Steeplejack: Thanks! Don’t know where I got four.

@Kay: We have a federal judge in northeastern Ohio, appointed by Bush, who refuses to speak to the other judges. They communicate through their clerks. So childish. His poor son (Republican so I don’t feel too bad) keeps trying to run for local judicial offices but the name is toxic around here now.
