The Epson, NH couple indirectly responsible for the Dumbest Libertarian Quote Ever have been reunited with their infant daughter, despite “shouting matches in front of dozens of onlookers” between the infant’s father, his father, and a private investigator… not to mention the “911 Was An Inside Job” tshirt prominently featured in the photo accompanying the news story.
But it would be remiss not to include this disclaimer from the organization whose protesting members first attracted the attention of the national media:
Garrett Lear of Wakefield, the national chaplain of the Oath Keepers, complained that Irish misrepresented himself, falsely leading people to believe he was a member of the group.
__
“He unfairly aligned himself with our organization,” said Lear, a cross on the front of his baseball cap.

The Oath Breakers pretty gleefully owned him when he claimed to be one of them. They get to keep him as far as I’m concerned.

@soonergrunt: But now he makes them look bad, so he’s like the anti-Oath Keeper now. Just like how every Republican douchebag gets labelled as a Democrat by Fox.
soonergrunt
@Martin:
so Fox has taken to declaring that the Democratic Party controls every seat in the House and Senate? Cool.
And I forgot this part earlier:

That little piece of information was left out of the other reports I had read. But, yeah, it was all because he was an Oath Keeper.

Snacks to hold ya over?
Barb (formerly gex)
I guess only the Reason folks will stand by this guy’s right to be free from government interference in his child abuse. Even the Oath Keepers won’t back him.
Litlebritdifrnt
The good folks at Politijab and The Fogbow have been tracking this asshole since the story broke. He is a real piece of work and deserves to be in jail, let alone raising a child. Even his father says he should be locked up and that is saying something.

So this guy took an oath to stop government tyranny, but didn’t take one to stop domestic tyranny in his own home? Niiice!

Ah, General! That is nice. Very nice indeed.

When you use a government to pass laws to dictate the norms of a family, it’s tyranny.
When you use your fist to dictate the norms of your family, it’s manning up.

I wish I could say that you’re wrong. But I can’t.

Since this is an open thread, who else is watching the Giants beat up on Roy Halladay?
As a Dodgers fan, this NLCS is just about the least appetizing possible matchup for me. If it is Giants and Yankees in the World Series I may have to leave the country.
fucen tarmal
go wisconsin!
Martin
@funluvn: I’ve found that most people that decry government overreach are mostly just pissed off that they can’t do something that government legitimately should be stopping. The ‘they’re coming for my guns’ crowd usually wants hand grenades.

I just watched Friday’s Bill Maher. Markos Moulitsas was on there. He said almost squat and let the Tea Party nut dominate the entire conversation. He barely defended his book American Taliban and couldn’t even explain why it was fair to use the phrase given who would do what if they got power. Maybe it’s the TV cameras.
Mark S.
The idiot who drove to Tennessee to break a fellow patriot out of jail was, unsurprisingly, an oafkeeper.
Oafkeeper shamelessly stolen from this thread (h/t Litlebrit), which also has some of Mr. Irish’s greatest hits. It’s pretty surprising the doofus isn’t in prison.
My OSU alumni brother is wisely living in France to avoid seeing them go down.

@Mark S.: I wonder if the guy they arrested in Port Angeles today or yesterday with six pipe bombs was in their little club.

Hey, where’s the recipe for the crab dip? That looks incredible.
Do you like green chile?

Oh, sort of like how this guy unfairly aligned himself with the Teatards. Or how this other guy unfairly aligned himself with the Teatards.
I wonder if the Oath Keepers have hired Andrew Breitbart yet to produce a tape that proves that it’s OK for them to beat their children because a member of the Obama adminstration beat their children too. An anonymous source will soon provide Breitbart with a tape that shows Elizabeth Warren confessing to beating her children regularly. Fox News will air the tape and conservatives everywhere will be shocked and outraged and demand Mrs. Warren’s resignation.
Upon closer examination however the tape will be revealed to consist of nothing more than badly dubbed over outtakes from Basic Instinct combined with footage from Mommie Dearest and A Boy’s Life. Further analysis will reveal that the voice on the tape isn’t Warren’s at all but belongs to a female employee of Project Veritas. Andrew Breitbart will be shocked and dismayed and go on TV to say how disappointed he is in the source who gave him the tape and will threaten to sue anyone who says that he knows James O’Keefe and Bill O’Reilly and Glenn Beck will piously condemn the Obama administration for overreacting.

But that would be preferable to yet another snoozer Phillies-Yankees World Series (IMO).

@jeffreyw:
Yeah!

@IndyLib: The green chile recipe sounds incredible. I love posole, so I know I’ll be making some of this. Canned Hatch chile’s are the best I can hope for now. You figure this will work OK?
Ross Hershberger
My brother told me of a colleague of his who developed a thermoelectric device to clean up wood-fired cooking stoves in the 3rd world. It uses waste heat to generate electricity. This powers a fan to add oxygen to the fire. The result is more heat from less wood and less poisonous indoor CO. Pretty slick. Made me feel lame for attempting to charge an iPhone from a candle and an ice cube with thermoelectrics.

@jeffreyw: Seriously. And IL hook-up will involve you and your food pr0n.
As for the asshat in NH, shit like that makes my blood boil.
Oh, and Philly is only one game behind. I am rooting for them. And, for the Rangers.

@funluvn:
Yes, canned works fine, you just don’t get the fun of smelling them roast. I had half of neighborhood drop by the day I was roasting mine because they smelled so damned good.
My mom made pasole with the same basic recipe just added the hominy and some onion and and didn’t thicken it up as much.
jeffreyw
@IndyLib: Crab dip recipe.

@jeffreyw:
That sounds as good as it looks.

There’s too many “Keepers” on the crazy scene. I got this one mixed up with the Promise Keepers, so the domestic violence never surprised me.

Folks who are most outspoken about “government tyranny” are not generally objecting to the “tyranny” part as much as the “government” part. The “government” being anyone who’s not them.

@Ross Hershberger:
that sounds pretty cool. all things considered, rocket stoves are the best tech for cleaning up wood stoves in the 3rd world tho.
