This Olbermann interview, which includes some off-camera coaching, seems to be getting the most attention for South Carolina’s next United States Senator, Alvin Greene. At least this video (and this one at a Charleston paper) show that Jim DeMint’s new opponent can conduct an interview in his own words:
That said, he’s an awful candidate. He broke FEC rules by not filing a campaign finance report, even though he spent more than $5,000 on his campaign (the filing fee alone was $10,400). He acknowledges that he was discharged from the armed services involuntarily, but says he got an honorable discharge. He’s accused of sneaking into a dorm common area and showing pornographic pictures to an 18 year-old girl at the University of South Carolina. And he’s awfully damn vague about where and how he campaigned.
I’ve seen a lot of shitty primary candidates in my time, so I’m ready to buy that a relatively inarticulate nobody with a closet full of skeletons would spend $10K on a quixotic run for Senate. What feels off about Greene is his complete lack of excitement and engagement. Usually a nut who’s going to blow his last dollar on a campaign does it for some crazy reason that animates them, and they talk about it incessantly. Greene has none of that. Put that together with his resume, and I smell a ratfuck.
