After reading Sullivan’s review of the Passion, there is no chance in hell I will go see the movie. I have found that as I age, I simply can not handle horror movies or movies with a great deal of graphicviolence. I just won’t sleep for weeks.
At any rate, Iam not much on the blogger triumphalism, but I did want to point out that I find it amusing that the only two movie critics I listen to are Andrew Sullivan and Oliver Willis.

There has been a lot of bloviating about Gibson’s Passion movie, but I just heard the dumbest angle ever on MSNBC. Lester Holt asked:
“Should Jesus have been played by a white man?”
WHO… GIVES… A… SHIT…
If I had my way, this is who I would like to have seen play Jesus:
The look on Tom Delay’s face as he went to a viewing of my version of the Passion would be priceless.

BTW if you want some comentary from someone who seems to know what heis talking about, Jesse and Ezra have been posting on the issue. Read them in this order: Post #1, Post #2, Post #3, Post #4, Post #5, and Post #6.
See also this TNR round-up, and check here for the reaction from someone who has actually seen the movie.
In a sort of related vein- I wonder what the reaction would have been like today to Martin Scorcese’s Last Temptation of Christ. I remember it was quite the brouhaha back in the day, and that was before the internet and cable news.
Also, for those of you who have not seen the
BTW- I would be remiss in this already way off topic ramble if I failed to mention Water Lily Acoustics, which is also a spectacular label and one of my absolute favorites.

I just watched Seabiscuit. What a fantastic movie- one of the best sports movies of all time. Dreamworks puts out some great stuff.

I saw the Last Samurai yesterday. It was ok- I didn’t feel like my money had been wasted when it was over. I guess you can call that a movie review. Probably should have seen Master and Commander.

I got to the theatre this afternoon and watched a matinee of the Matrix Revolutions. I always try to go midweek during the day to movies I am really looking forward to, and much to my delight, there were only four other people there. That means the Surround Sound Speaker to ear ratio was about 82 to 1, and it was awesome.
I thought the movie was fantastic, and I think movie critics are now officially morons. Of course, I did not go to the Matrix seeking deep philosophical fulfillment- I went for a couple hours of excitement, action, a decent story line, and lots of hot screaming special effects with an equal amount of complimentary ear-bleeding loud sound effects.
The Matrix delivered.

Unbelievable- Egypt has banned the Matrix movies because they promote Zionism.
