Zander’s look says it all: What the hell have you done now??
You’ll see below the fold:
The duckings have landed
They are unnamed and adorable
Bixby has decided he’s the daddy
There is video and more photos at this link.
They tucker themselves out and sleep in a little heart shape:
Bonus Maddie and Mabel enjoying the last snowstorm:
So here’s the caveat. I’ll keep you updated, but you cannot get ATTACHED. My record with raising baby ducks to adulthood is about 50/50. I’m willing to risk my heart, but not willing to risk yours unless you understand our odds. I’m not even going to name them until they are a few weeks old. I do not know if they are girls or boys…we’ll figure it out as they get a bit older. There are ways ?

This is the COOLEST. A Google Earth-type representation of the planet. Every green dot is a radio station. Click any dot to listen in. It’s like cultural teleportation. You could spend hours with this thing… https://t.co/rdEHUUfgvk pic.twitter.com/VJgyzVClJD

Now y’all get to tell me how you knew about this already!

Completely unrelated, but:
Incident in a NJ Supermarket
At the supermarket today, I found a small, elderly woman standing in front of a high shelf holding @BonneMamanUS preserves. She was having trouble finding the flavor she wanted because the jars were set back on the shelf.

“Yes, it tastes good.” She paused again. “I am a Holocaust survivor.”
This was not the conversation I expected on a Sunday grocery run.

I told her that that was the best reason I ever heard to buy any company’s product. And then we both smiled behind our masks and went our separate ways.

I thought it would be good to try and end the day on a good note. For those who missed it…the ducks have taken over my bathroom and I promised you a photo:
BTW, between the pig last weekend and the ducks this weekend, I am definitely team, “some animals need to live outside.”
And here is bonus Bixby. I accidentally threw one of their soccer balls over the fence when I was playing with Scout the other day. I felt bad, so I bought a new soccer ball and Bixby promptly did what he does, deflate it.

Kirk Spencer sent this to me this morning… and I have to agree, chills. These are some of the National Guard troops taking shelter from the cold in DC while protecting the Capitol:
These soldiers singing inside the Library of Congress will give you chills
I am a poor wayfaring stranger
I’m travellin’ through this world of woe
Yet there’s no sickness, toil, nor danger
In that bright land to which I go
I’m going there to see my Father
I’m going there, no more to roam
I’m only going over Jordan
I’m only going over home
I know dark clouds will gather ’round me
I know my way is rough and steep
But golden fields lie just before me
Where God’s redeemed shall ever sleep
I’m going home to see my mother
And all my loved ones who’ve gone on
I’m only going over Jordan
I’m only going over home
I am a poor wayfarin’ stranger
I’m travellin’ through this world of woe
Yet there’s no sickness, toil, nor danger
In that bright land to which I go
I’m going there to see my Father
I’m going there, no more to roam
I’m only going over Jordan
I’m only going over home
Steeplejack sent me this about a week ago, and I must share:

Dolly Parton turned down an offer to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom twice during the Donald Trump administration. https://t.co/RtB2ipii5h
— Entertainment Weekly (@EW) February 2, 2021
… “I couldn’t accept it because my husband was ill and then they asked me again about it and I wouldn’t travel because of the COVID,” she said. Parton also explained that she had since heard from President Joe Biden about potentially receiving the award, but fears it would be misconstrued as a political statement if she were to accept now after previously declining.
“Now I feel like if I take it, I’ll be doing politics, so I’m not sure,” she said. “But I don’t work for those awards. It’d be nice but I’m not sure that I even deserve it. But it’s a nice compliment for people to think that I might deserve it.”
Last fall, former President Barack Obama took some good-natured heat from comedian Stephen Colbert about not giving Parton the award, which he admitted was a mistake, confessing he assumed she already had received one. Obama then quipped he’d reach out to his former vice president, Joe Biden, about rectifying the error…
Back in the olden days, Miss Manners had a column explaining the correct way to turn down an invitation to a state dinner from a different dishonest GOP president, along the lines of: We regret that we will be unable to attend, because Tuesday is when our bowling league meets.
Biden needs to give her three
One for the millions of books she’s donated to children
One for helping fund the COVID-19 vaccine’s research
One for writing “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You” on the same day https://t.co/dHcw6iTyux

“She would later ask her father, who was illiterate, to help her launch her Imagination Library, which now gives books to children … He loved her work on helping kids read more than her country-star status, she says.”

Vice-President Elect and soon to be Second Gentleman:
Enjoyed every bit of this while drinking my morning coffee.
Just Some Fuckhead sent along some cute kittehs, Monkey and Jumbo, that I’m happy to share:
And here are some winter ducks for you. Unlike those crazy Vermont ducks who run inside at the first sign of snow, mine love snow. I often have to shovel a path so they aren’t up to their little eyes in snow, but they do love it. I also shovel out the area under the bushes so they have somewhere to warm their feet.
