Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

Everybody saw this coming.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Trump’s cabinet: like a magic 8 ball that only gives wrong answers.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

If you are still in the gop, you are either an extremist yourself, or in bed with those who are.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

People are weird.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

Amazingly bad coverage…

by Dennis G.|  February 25, 201010:46 pm| 31 Comments

This post is in: Media, Open Threads, General Stupidity, Good News For Conservatives, Mainstream Media's McCain Mancrush

For all the talk that these HCR negotiations needed to be on C-Span it was odd that when it happened the event was only on C-Span 3, which is not even offered as an option by many teevee delivery systems. The cable news shows were basically hacktacular in their coverage. CNN decided to only show Republicans and MSNBC was just as bad. The “liberal” network broke into the summit every few minutes for commercials or to let folks hear spin from proven corruptionists like Armstrong Williams.

Thank the FSM that I have broadband.

There was decent coverage online, but the teevee coverage was amazingly bad. The only aspect they seem to be able to cover is that John McCain still thinks that he is President.

OTOH, is you do get a chance to watch the full event online (or whenever C-Span decides to actually broadcast it on their real network) I thought it was an amazing event (this highlight reel from the GOS is a good sample of why). It is just too bad that most folks will never sit through it.

So it goes.

Cheers

Open Thread: Thursday Night Menu

Take it away, Bad Horse’s Filly:

I’d bet everyone’s mom has some version of this that she served – especially if you grew up in the 60’s and 70’s. This was a weekly staple of my childhood. Of course we had to eat it off the bone, we were so deprived back then.
__
So I offer a menu that tastes great, is easy to put together and for me, has a lot of nostalgia.
__
On the board tonight:
__
Oven Fried Chicken
Broccoli
Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Sliced Pears

Recipes and shopping list at the link.
****
And from BHF’s co-blogger Jeffrey W, a photo of a guy bird who’d have settled for KFC…

Because RedKitten demands one. And with Cole unable to post pictures, it would be too dangerous to risk our supply of SamKitten.

The secret ingredient on Iron Chef tonight is lemon, and because the first thing I try to do mentally with every secret ingredient is to try to imagine it as an ice cream, I realize I have never had lemon ice cream. I’ve had lemon ice, and lemon sherbet, but no lemon ice cream. Why is that not sold?

Also, this is pretty awesome:

We also got to meet Barry Eisler, author of the novel Inside Out, who will be with us on the Book Salon on July 3. (Not to give anything away, but Dan Froomkin appears as an FBI Agent, Marcy Wheeler is the antagonist’s ex-wife, I appear as a Director of Information Security, and both Josh Marshall and John Cole are on ex-boyfriend duty.)

COOL.

HCR Summit Thoughts

Why are Lieberman, Nelson, and the rest of the Senate concern trolls not at the HCR summit? Where is Bart Stupak?

It is telling that the people who did the most to screw up this process and have inordinate power are not even deemed by their peers and their leadership to even be experts on the topic. But there they are, every day, screwing shit up.

If it is not obvious to anyone with an iq over room temperature that the Republicans want to do nothing but kill any bill, I’m not sure what more it is going to take.

The First Time Was Also A Farce

Noel Coward should sue the flying spaghetti monster for stealing his shit.

***Update***

I asked a Congressional aide recently whether the House would accept a deal where they pass the Senate bill first if Max Baucus promises to man a dunk tank for charity. He laughed, but I wasn’t (completely) joking.
