Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

How stupid are these people?

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

Celebrate the fucking wins.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

They were going to turn on one another at some point. It was inevitable.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

The Joy of Motherhood

This list of things that afflict pregnant women is enough for me to state that were I a woman, I would never, ever, ever get pregnant intentionally:

Oh your sweet little baby is healthy and moving around and kicking. You can feel him bumping around. It’s magical.

HOLY SHIT! WHAT WAS THAT?

That? That crazy sudden pain that almost made you collapse? That feeling that someone just sent an electric fireball down your vagina and through your legs? That, my dear, was your sweet little baby kicking you in the cervix.

You can’t prepare for it. You can’t stop it. You can only hope that each time it happens, you are near something to break your fall. Or that you are in a place where no one cares if you scream.

I know we have a number of moms reading the site, including some very new members to the club, so you will have to tell the males here how accurate this piece was.

And speaking of new moms, I loved this new pick of Sam, spawn of Redkitten:

Look at that grin.

Take it away, Bad Horse’s Filly…

I mentioned earlier that I have the winter doldrums. I await spring and the fresh foods it brings and the grilling. Lots and lots of grilling. So, tonight’s menu reflects a bit of that desire, even though for many of us, we’ll have to be satisfied cooking it in a cast iron skillet (did you hear? I got a new one!) or broiling in the oven.
__
On the board tonight:
__

1. Steak with Coffee Rub
2. Green Beans w/Bacon & Onion
3. Baked Potatoes
4. Blueberry Coffee Cake

For full recipes and shopping list (not to mention JeffreyW’s kitty pics), click on the link.

P.S. Word Press’s line spacing issues are getting even more bizarre. Even using the double-underscore text break doesn’t work consistently for me now. Suggestions appreciated, but no guarantees.

I Cheated

I was supposed to wait another 12 hours, but I couldn’t. I cheated and I showered early. Right now I am wrapped up in two towels waiting for the hot water heater to refill so I can go for round two. I think I got the first layers of filth off, but now I intend to take steel wool to my armpits.

I know this will spur a whole series of “Ur doin’ it rong” comments, but I think this may be the most fun I have ever had with my clothes off.

There used to be a post here, and now there is not, and I would appreciate it if those of you who knew what it was about could be quiet about it until we are ready to go live, because some of the stuff is just placeholders.

Off to the doctor to hopefully have my sutures removed.

You know what that means, don’t you?

I WILL BE ABLE TO SHOWER! Not just turning the shower on and sticking my head underneath it with my body outside. Not washing myself with a combination of soap and washcloth and a bucket like you wash a car, no more alcohol sponge baths, no more baby butt wipes.

An honest to goodness shower. I can not tell you how excited I am.

*** Update ***

Foiled!

Sutures were removed, but I have to wait 24 hours to shower so the holes fill in. :(

I am healing nicely, and they x-rayed my knee (which had swollen up the last couple of days from the fall) and it is stucturally fine, but I damaged my bursa sac (sp?). Ace bandages and ice and it should be fine.

Good day.

This post is in: Open Threads, Blatant Liars and the Lies They Tell

Timothy Egan has another excellent essay, “The Grifter’s Tale”, up at his NYT blog:

Judson Phillips is a Tennessee lawyer, specializing in personal injury lawsuits, drunk-driving cases and men who get into trouble beating their wives. It was his idea to incorporate Tea Party Nation as a money-making venture and charge $349 to hear Sarah Palin talk about what’s wrong with America over steak and lobster this weekend in Nashville.
__
Andrew Young is a North Carolina lawyer, specializing in John Edwards. The deceptions. The baby born to the mistress. It was his job to make sure the Diet Sprite never ran low. And when Edwards suggested that Young co-habitate with the senator’s mistress, to further an outrageous lie, Young set up the guest room and explained to his family that they now had new members.
__
If there’s money to be made hitching your wagon to a politician trading in populism, well, who can fault these fine men for seizing the opportunity. They must know, the check is more reliable than the politician…

I was an Edwards suppporter in the 2008 primaries, and I still think it’s a sign of our national political immaturity that his crappy personal behavior is somehow considered to have invalidated his “Two Americas” proposals. But I have to admit that Egan has a good argument that Edwards and Palin are in some ways spiritual kin.
