Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

The revolution will be supervised.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Quote tweet friends, screenshot enemies.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

… gradually, and then suddenly.

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

The lights are all blinking red.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

Let me file that under fuck it.

I’m tired for some reason. It has been raining and crappy all day, and that always screws up my sinuses. Also, Tunch, for no reason whatsoever, just ran into the office, attacked my right foot, and then screamed out of the room like a cruise missile.

It is only a little scratch, but it did draw blood. The fat bastard has gone feral.

A live action shot from five minutes ago.

An early entrant for the 2009 Golden Wingnut Award. I’m laughing hysterically.

Apparently some guy is talking about something in a little. I don’t know, but people in the comments seem to think it is more important than the Backyard Brawl, which is currently in progress. I beg to differ. At any rate, here is a place for you to talk about it.

Also, a little bird emailed me this link to the Corner, where they are listing the top #25 conservative movies of all time. #22 is Brazil:

Brazil (1985): Vividly depicting the miserable results of elitist utopian schemes, Terry Gilliam’s Brazil portrays a darkly comic dystopia of malfunctioning high-tech equipment and the dreary living conditions common to all totalitarian regimes. Everything in the society is built to serve government plans rather than people. The film is visually arresting and inventive, with especially evocative use of shots that put the audience in a subservient position, just like the people in the film. Terrorist bombings, national-security scares, universal police surveillance, bureaucratic arrogance, a callous elite, perversion of science, and government use of torture evoke the worst aspects of the modern megastate.

No wonder they love it.

Finally, one of our commenters is adopting a kitty, and it has no name:

A shame to go through life without a name. Please help.

That didn’t take long. I just got an email informing me that said kitty has already been named and has made herself at home:

Say hello to “Momo.”

Here is a clean thread since the last one got messy. Mom and dad passed along this picture of the pups watching the Super Bowl last week.

Enjoy.

The pets say you have spent too much time at the computer. Go for a walk or something:

Claim your pets, folks, and don’t forget about CBS Sunday Morning.

What the hell? We have a fraud. Someone sent the peeing puppy in as their own pet, when it has been making the rounds of the internet for some time.

Culture of Corruption

So after I got my fat ass off the exercise bike (aka the “six hundred dollar towel rack”), I turned on the radio and started to go about the Saturday morning house cleaning. Normally I just listen to Click and Clack and then Whad’ya Know?, get all smacked up on coffee, and then chase Tunch around with the vacuum cleaner (he hates it, so this is one of the few points in the week where I have the upper hand in our relationship), but this week I decided to listen to some rock station.

At any rate, I was buzzing around the house when all of a sudden, I realized that not only was “Bad Medicine” playing, but that I was singing along, and I knew all the words. It was mortifying, and the first thing I did was look to make sure no one had seen me, even though I live alone.

This will never happen again, I swear.

BTW, I mentioned I love James Brown, and you all know about my love of the Dead and Little Feat, but if I had to choose another band that never fails to make me happy, it would be these guys:

That isn’t one of their best known songs, but it is one of my all time favs.

Have at it. Trying to find something about the stimulus bill, but everything seems so vague. I can’t figure out what exactly was cut from the MSM write-ups.

I am watching Comedy Central for the Daily Show this morning, and there is an infomercial for the “Slap Chop,” which may be the most pointless invention I have ever seen. Do people not use chef’s knives these days?
