Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

I’m starting to think Jesus may have made a mistake saving people with no questions asked.

Hell hath no fury like a farmer bankrupted.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

The way to stop violence is to stop manufacturing the hatred that fuels it.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

Decision time: keep arguing about the last election, or try to win the next one?

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

Long day, finally done. Time for some pets:

Claim your pets.

Also, I think we might have a new competition/award around these here parts. Start thinking of nominees, and maybe we will have our election in a week or so.

At any rate, this will have to do as your open thread for now.

Don’t forget, Monk tonight.

Re-inflate that Bubble!

The Senate has a solution for the economic crisis:

The Senate on Wednesday voted to expand the economic stimulus package with a tax credit for homebuyers of up to $15,000, a provision championed by Republicans as addressing a root cause of the recession.

The vote to add the tax credit, at a cost of about $18.5 billion, came as Senate leaders seemed to be nearing completion of negotiations. The majority leader, Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, suggested that a final vote on the stimulus plan could come on Thursday.

That’s the ticket.

*** Update ***

Calc Risk says it is a solid plan. If that is the case, just ignore me.

*** Update #2 ***

I misread Calculated Risk. They said “The current tax credit is good for both new and existing home purchases,” meaning what it applied to, not whether or not it was a “good” thing. My bad.

Some days it feels like I am living in a photographic negative of 2004. For example.

Citing her “significant talent, leadership and personal experience,” VA Secretary Eric Shinseki said that [Tammy] Duckworth will help to improve their ability to ensure that “Veterans receive the benefits that they deserve.”

Also, the president is an intelligent, openminded black dude with Hussein in his name. Pinch me.

More Snow

by John Cole|  February 3, 20097:44 am| 32 Comments

This post is in: Open Threads

This has just been the weirdest winter here- it seems to snow almost every other day, but it never amounts to anything. Tonight we had another inch or so, so there is a light covering again this morning, and it is still coming down. The weirdest thing is that looking outside, it looks like that kind of tiny snow that just keeps coming for ever and ever (not the big fluffy stuff that only lasts for an hour that looks like those little ornaments you shake).

But here is the weirdest part. I see the snow coming down, I see the sky, but none of the radar at wunderground or weather.com is showing anything. Not sure what is going on, but one of my friends last week told me we were supposed to get a massive snow today (I believe her exact phrase was a “tornado snowstorm”), but again, just not seeing anything on the radar.

Weird.

Am I the only one who thinks these glasses weren’t thoroughly vetted by the Obama administration?

Consider this an open thread.

Either you’re slinging crack rock or you got a wicked jump shot

It’s too bad the “Boiler Room” sucked, because this trailer tells the economic story of the last however many years in 70 seconds better than anything else I’ve seen, and the Biggie quote is right on the money as far as capturing the zeitgeist. (The Ben Affleck as Alec Baldwin scene is truly unforgivable, though.)
