Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

We do not need to pander to people who do not like what we stand for.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

We are learning that “working class” means “white” for way too many people.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

Everybody saw this coming.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

Let there be snark.

You cannot love your country only when you win.

Keep the Immigrants and deport the fascists!

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

Nukes In Iran

by John Cole|  November 25, 20038:36 am| 2 Comments

This post is in: Foreign Affairs

Whatever can we do to reign in this danger to our society, this menace to mankind, the belligerent, bellicose unilateralist bullies who would make statements like this:

The only clear imperative is that Iran must be pressed to reveal all its nuclear activities, past and present, and cooperate wholeheartedly with international inspectors. That can best be done by allowing the I.A.E.A. to continue demanding answers. When the agency’s board reconvenes tomorrow, it should pass a resolution condemning Iran’s secret programs and demanding that Iran prove that its programs are peaceful. The resolution should include a trigger mechanism to force international action if Iran reverts to stonewalling or deception.

Shame on Gail Collins. This type of rhetoric and this insistence that the international community act is just the type of unilateralist bullying that led us to the current affair in Iraq.

Cryptic Writing

This might be the most useless sentence in NY Times history. IN a two page online article about the Senate atempts to pass the Prescription Drug Bill (or whatever it is called), we see this gem:

Eight of the nine Democrats running for president criticized the measure, calling it a threat to Medicare and a boon for special interests. “This is a continuation of this administration and this Republican Party selling out government to special interests,” Representative Richard A. Gephardt of Missouri said at a debate in Des Moines.

Nowhere in the article does it state which candidate was in favor of the bill. Bad writing.

Football Woes

by John Cole|  November 23, 20038:46 pm| 7 Comments

This post is in: Sports

Today’s Steelers/Browns matchup was as grave an insult to the game of football as burial in a pigskin coffin would be to Osama bin Laden. IN a matchup pitting the hideously inept vs. the woefully incompetent, the Steelers managed to pull out a win, 13-6

Actually, claiming the Steelers won isn’t really accurate. The Steelers didn’t really win, but,a s my brother stated, the Browns ‘just out-sucked them.’ In games like this, it really is a shame someone had to win. If the NFL really cared about the integrity of the game, Paul Tagliubue would have called the game after 3 1/2 quarters and declared that both teams are losers.

One positive aspect of rooting for a team that is now 4-7 is that I have no more pre-game rituals to adhere to, and I actually went to the kitchen to make a bagel and cream cheese DURING the game. We even had possession of the ball, and I said “To hell with it- I am hungry.” Later on, I actually even fell asleep during the third quarter and woke up at the start of the fourth. Surprise! The score had not changed.

At least we will draft high next March.

*** Update ***

Woah! WTF? Those Dolphins orangish whatever jersey’s are hideous. I can not adequately describe how bad they are.

Love The NY Times

Yesterday the NY Times unleashes this stinker of a smear campaign about Howard Dean and his military service, today they devote untol column inches to a puff piece about Gen. Clark.

It is no wonder the left wing of the Democrats bitch about the media as much as conservatives do.

Absurd Legislation

by John Cole|  November 22, 20037:44 pm| 4 Comments

This post is in: Republican Stupidity

The Energy Bill really is disgusting. I hated the way the Democrats launched their jihad against Cheney and the manner the energy bill was written, and it is still my belief that how the bill was written is not relevant. What is relevant, however, is that this bill, by most objective accounts and non-objective accounts (such as this, via Max Sawicky), is just a disgusting, distasteful, pork-barrel waste of a stinker.

Most personally offensive to me are the ethanol subsidies and the gas pipeline subsidies.

Try again, folks.

This is disturbing- the inspiration for a prominent SNL skit has stormed the Georgian Parliament. You make the call:
