I think in the first video the bear just wants to talk to them about his Lord and Savior: Yogi of Jellystone!

@Adam L Silverman: Bruins!

Anybody know a lousy American brand of plain black tea?

@Major Major Major Major:
Lipton.
Major Major Major Major
@Mnemosyne: That’s what I was gonna go with.

Malaysia is propping up the medals table at the Rio Olympics with one silver medal. Yay Malaysia.
Adam L Silverman
@Mnemosyne: @Major Major Major Major: That’ll work. For a slightly better brand, there’s Swee Touch Nee

Back in my lost youth, I went to Yellowstone twice in the 70’s; people would feed the bears from their cars, a good number didn’t make it.

I’m to bed. You all have fun.

@Adam L Silverman: Bayh.

Just in case the crossover Disney and Hamilton fans didn’t see it, here’s LMM and The Rock doing their version of “Gaston” (from Beauty and the Beast).
TaMara (BHF)
That bear rolling down the hill brings me joy every time I see it. Thanks
Mnemosyne
@Major Major Major Major:
Is there something in particular you want it for, or are you just taking a survey? It’s not terrible as iced tea.
Major Major Major Major
@Mnemosyne: Just need to upset a British character.
Mnemosyne
@Major Major Major Major:
Then Lipton will do it. Though if someone needs a retort, Twinings ain’t all that since it’s basically the English version of Lipton.
LesBonnesFemmes
I love baseball. And, The Rockford Files. Goodnight, gang.
Amir Khalid
@Mnemosyne:
Alas, wrong. The Lipton brand is of British origin. Thomas Lipton opened his first grocery store in Glasgow, Scotland in 1871. He got into the tea business in 1890 with tea from plantations in what is now Sri Lanka sold through his grocery retail empire. Over the years, the retail and tea businesses have gone their separate ways: the tea part is now owned by Anglo-Dutch conglomerate Unilever, which markets bottled and canned teas in the USA through a partnership with PepsiCo.

Did someone say bear?

@Major Major Major Major:
Salada
Mnemosyne
@Amir Khalid:
You misunderstand the cultural context: Lipton is pretty much the only brand of tea that most Americans know, and it’s ubiquitous in fast food restaurants, 7-11’s, etc. It’s as American as French’s Mustard now.
Amir Khalid
@Amir Khalid:
By the way, this is what we drink in Malaysia.
piratedan
@Major Major Major Major: well if the purists say Lipton is out… perhaps Luzianne
Mnemosyne
@Amir Khalid:
Also, too, Unilever has owned the Lipton brand in the US and Canada since 1938:
seaboogie
@James E Powell: I think it was Tetley that put the tiny ceramic figurines in their boxes as collectibles. Salada just the lame-o brand like the bottom shelf cereals.
Mai.naem.mobile
@Major Major Major Major: my mom loves her Indian style tea which she prefers Brit brands. She actually thinks Lipton is the best of the American brands. She’ll just use two to three bags for one cup. Typhoon is the shitty Brit brand,worse than Lipton. The best is Brooke Bond followed closely by PG Tips.
Mike J
I have really cool video I shot today of a relaxing mid speed wind tooling around the lake with a seaplane takeoff, passing paddle boarders, the Boeing factory and Mt Rainier, and a tour of our lagoon and boats. Sadly I shot it in 1080p and this relaxation video is 25 gig and just downloading it to cut is taking forfuckingever.
@Mnemosyne: Sir Thomas Lipton fought for the America’s cup five times. The best loser of all time.
RedDirtGirl
This might have come up in an earlier thread, but I just saw a clip on TPM of Drumpf being called “Putin’s Bitch” by a heckler in Florida. I think it really threw him. I had the sense that he was starting to see it all slip away from him. I have to say that it gave me a little thrill up my leg!
Major Major Major Major
@Mai.naem.mobile: Big PG Tips fan, myself.

@TaMara (BHF): Same here. Thanks!

Well, the archetypical American beer is Budweiser, and that’s owned by a Belgium company. Lipton is absolutely the routine tea in America, whatever its origins and ownership. It’s also perfect for a tea that’s not really bad, but will certainly disappoint a connoisseur.
Edit: perhaps it just displays my lack of taste, but I find Twinings a distinct step up from Lipton.
? Martin
Lipton standard US teas are kind of shit, but Ms Martin has found a place to get the Lipton decaf they sell in Canada and it’s quite good – noticeably different from the standard US Lipton decaf. It’s pretty much the only thing I drink.

Someone figured out how to perfectly duplicate a Trump rally speech.

I finally get to post this early enough in an ASB (Adam Silverman Bears) thread:

When I feel like being a tea snob, I buy online from Adagio. Loch Ness Lapsang blend is one of my favorites, though my coworkers complain that they think the building is on fire when they smell it.

I was watching the local AM news a few weeks ago,with the blonde bimbo and bimbette. They had some piece on the Old Faithful geyser at Yellowstone except they called the geyser Yosemite. Now,i kind of had it on in the background and I wasn’t actively watching it so I kind of thought I was mistaken and started paying more attention. Sure enough they repeated it.Sad!

@Mnemosyne: twinings in the UK isn’t the same as twinings here. Even very generic twinings everyday is quite tasty. No need to go to fortnum and mason or find Taylor’s.

I fear a person-to-bear encounter is now inevitable for me. So I prepare…..

Should I be laughing at sassy Trump?
Major Major Major Major
@Mike J: I give you a gay hood pass.
Juju
@Major Major Major Major: I remember instant Nestea unsweetened, serve hot or cold, as being one of the most vile things I’ve had, hot or cold.
seaboogie
@divF: Love that song – going to play it now!
Mnemosyne
If my boss gave me her cold in time for me to be sick all weekend, I’m gonna be pissed. But I’m starting to fear that that is the case.
Steeplejack
@Major Major Major Major:
Uh, go to the store and see what’s on the shelf?
Mike J
@divF: That version of that song does not have a mandolin solo, it has a guitar solo played on a mandolin. I like it.
divF
@seaboogie: There is a goofy sweetness to this song that seems quite in place in these parts. Even Super-Serious Adam has his soft spot for his doggies. Not to mention Cole.

The latest from Trump — they don’t need a ground operation. But they are taking signups for election observers.
Although election observers are relatively normal, no one on the internets is aware of election observers recruited to stop a “rigged” election. Even at their worst, people would say “ensure a fair and honest election” if they needed to dogwhistle.
Mike J
@Alex: Violating a consent decree the RNC signed to stop voter intimidation.
Amir Khalid
@Mike J:
So who will be in charge of telling them to knock it off?
Major Major Major Major
@Amir Khalid: New Black Panthers? ACORN? Sassy gays?
BigHank53
If your story is set within recent history, you couldn’t find anything more offensive than some K-cup tea. I tried a cup of the stuff once. Beyond awful.
Steeplejack
@BigHank53:
Is there any K-cup beverage that’s not awful? Not a lot of experience here, but what I’ve had was not good.
Major Major Major Major
@BigHank53: That stuff is truly heinous, but wrong for the scene. Thanks!
Amir Khalid
@Major Major Major Major:
I presume there was a plaintiff n the lawsuit that ended up in the consent decree. Was it the DoJ? If so, do they have to formally advise the court that the RNC is now violating the decree?
Mike J
@Major Major Major Major:
I would use my pass to help stop them, but all of our voting is mail in.
ThresherK (GPad)
We live close enough to drive to Harney’s once in a while. Spousal ThresherK Is a big fan.
I am not much for hot tea, and iced is a limited item because I can’t take as much caffeine as I’d like and that’s usually diet Coke. Fortunately she has a high caffeine tolerance.
Major Major Major Major
@Amir Khalid: Not really my area of expertise, alas. I barely even remember what the thing was about.
ruemara
@Mnemosyne: You’re the only other person I know who likes Lapsang Souchong.
Pete Downunder
@ruemara: I love lapsang but it has disappeared from the shelves here in Brisbane, Australia. Don’t know why. If any Aussies know a source here let me know.
Major Major Major Major
@ruemara: @Pete Downunder: I like it. In China some people apparently just call it tea for white people.
Anne Laurie
@seaboogie:
No, it’s boxed Red Rose tea that includes the Wade figurines.
The Blogmaster, via me, got my Spousal Unit hooked on Upton Tea Imports. My own palate is spoiled from swilling Diet Coke, but I quite like their flavored teas, which are strong enough to stand up to ice and/or quantities of half-and-half.
Anne Laurie
@Mnemosyne: Per the Upton people:
@Pete Downunder: Well, you could order it by mail — there *must* be Australian companies that ship the stuff, yes?
opiejeanne
@Major Major Major Major: I read it aloud and we both laughed. Very good.
opiejeanne
@redshirt: Sylvia Plath wrote a little story called The 59th Bear. I have dreaded a seemingly inevitable encounter with them for years.
We have dodged them a couple of times at our mountain cabin over the past 8 years, but then the past two years we have had at least one bear wandering around our Real House, 4 miles from the big Microsoft campus. We do not live out in the woods but most of the houses have at least an acre of land and there is a 10 acre woods 2 doors away.
We did see a long-tail weasel this week, though, so maybe we are more rural than I think.
Major Major Major Major
@opiejeanne: Aw, thanks :)
Manyakitty
@Mnemosyne: Oh wow. Thanks for the recommendation!

Bear is thinking… “Now, where did I put that can opener?”
Glidwrith
@Major Major Major Major: Awww. Always too late to a thread, but I like any smoky tea I can get my hands on. Pannakin is a local coffee/tea spot where you can get all kinds of loose leaf tea. Bagged tea just isn’t very good because there is no way to keep the volatile oils from escaping. Tea stored in tins is the best.

@Major Major Major Major:
Tetley is better, or … hmmm, if it comes to me I’ll post it too, starts with an M…. but you said lousy. Didn’t you?
Tetley is OK for Iced Tea. Lipton is bitter for any use.
J R in WV
@ruemara:
I drink Lapsang Souchong often enough to keep it around. My fav is Tea Republic Darjeeling, which I can drink a small teapot or two of every morning.
I have started drinking coffee the past few years, to get used to it for when we travel, as hotel tea and restaurant tea is much worse than such coffee, mostly.

@Mnemosyne: red rose was our go-to mass market brand. It came with cute porcelain figurines of animals.

Regarding bears, gotta tell this hairy bear story:
Neighbors, friends 20 minutes away, all the way up a hollow, and then up to the ridge top, so very far into the woods, woke up one night to crashing sounds in their basement, which has a wide door to the outside on one corner. Also, the steps downstairs from the first floor arrive right next to that outside door.
Joe crept down the steps a little way, and saw that there was a bear in the basement, drinking homebrew from a brewing tank and eating frozen pork (Joe raises pigs and beef cattle) – having a high old time.
The problem was that they couldn’t get behind the bear to scare it out the door. Decision was made to pile furniture on top of the hatch covering the stairway down to the basement, and wait him out. It took a while, as the bear was almost too drunk to find the door.
Never came back, guess the hangover was too much for him!
SteverinoCT
@Steeplejack: K-cups: I get the Newman’s Own, medium roast extra bold, free trade, organic, profits to charity. Oh, and I like the taste. I get it at BJ’s for $50/100ct, and expense it for work: the stuff they get is indeed not that good, but there’s a large selection now. And I love the convenience.
henqiguai
@ruemara(#61):
I like Lapsong Souchong tea. Only one in my household to like it, but to hell with the no taste philistines.
Anna in Pdx
@henqiguai: I love Lapsamg Souchon, mostly I think that smoky smell/flavor reminds me of a campfire.
