The Notorious RBG had the best idea — she didn’t bother to show up.
What’s going on that does not involve the Dolt-in-Chieftests?
While Trump is speaking, results from three CT special elections come in:Dems won 2 seats bigly & nearly took the most GOP seat in the state

Watching this speech is a real argument for not losing elections

When you watch Optics Correspondents on cable TeeVee gush because Trump managed not to drool on himself or talk about his (crowd) size, remember that these are the same people shocked to discover that flyover plebs at town halls know about things like pre-existing conditions and lifetime limits

News Alert: Another day, another police chase in LA; but this time it’s a TACO TRUCK!
Mary G
I have a bronchitis coming and going since Christmas and it is really bad now. Like John says, I feel like hammered shit. Yesterday the doctor said that it hasn’t quite turned to pneumonia yet and prescribed yet another two antibiotics. So sick of being sick.
Yarrow
@?BillinGlendaleCA: How many corners are involved?
And in other news, Joe Manchin wants to be a Trumper.
Yarrow
@Mary G: Oh, no! I’m so sorry to hear that. That kind of lingering thing is the worst. And antibiotics can really wear you out. Please take good care of yourself!
Timurid
@Yarrow: Looks like he’s going to run up the Jolly (R)oger…
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Mary G: Yikes, I had bronchitis when I was a kid; get better.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: From what I’ve seen the exploitation, followed by the applause record comment, of Senior Chief Owen’s wife isn’t playing well either. And Hewitt’s attempt to deflect for the President, claiming that he wasn’t placing the blame on the SecDef and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, by saying “they lost Ryan”, but, rather, he was stating that the SeALs left him behind because they didn’t bring him home alive isn’t going to play well either. The one thing that SF pride themselves on, regardless of Green Berets, Rangers, Delta, Air Commandos, USAF Forward Observer Controllers, Marine SOC and Recon Marines, and the SeALs is that they never leave anyone behind. If Hewitt is right about what the President meant, then its even worse than blaming the SecDef and CJCS. If he’s wrong, Hewitt just threw the rest of SeAL Team 6 under the bus attempting to exonerate the President in shifting the blame.

@Yarrow:
It’s on every corner, but for a very short amount of time.

Commenter Yarrow linked to an interesting pic of Trumps ‘generals, right out of central casting’. Quite an interesting array of expressions. Not sure what they mean. Don’t look too happy to me. Though that is just a guess

Networks: “ZOMG! He showed up! He tried to be like, presidential! He was so presidential he would have seemed to fit in pretty well in a grade-Z straight to video movie about an invasion of zombie goats! It’s astounding!’

@Adam L Silverman: I didn’t watch the speech, but I feel like his comments about the SEAL are going to be one of those things that gets good immediate reviews and as then less good post-speech reviews and, as time goes on, is seen as a mistake. Perhaps as soon as tomorrow.
I said in the other thread that I expect him to start slamming the SEAL’s father for not getting with the program. “See how much applause I got when I mentioned him. That dad needs to realize that we loved his son. He’s wrong to blame me. He needs to shape up.”

@jl: The last time I saw a Marine with that look on his face was my good friend and teammate trying to sit comfortably in his Dress Blues, which no longer fit quite as well as they should have since he’d retired (no regular PT) and which just had to be repaired on the fly because of an inseam blow out en route to the Marine Corps Birthday formal dinner we were going to.

@Yarrow: It will likely be ugly and unpleasant.
And on that note, I’m to bed. You all have a nice late evening/early morning.

@Mary G:
Get better. Sending you positive thoughts.

@Adam L Silverman: They do not look like they like him. The caption to that tweet is: “I like to call it resting military coup face.” LOL. Not that I’m wanting a military coup. But they don’t look like they like him much.
@Adam L Silverman: Yep. Very ugly.

It’s obvious the fifth columnist fourth estate ain’t gonna stand up to the twitler. And I am pessimistic about dems standing up to him.

@Mary G: Bronchitis sucks. Hope you feel better soon.

@amk:
We saw this all during the election – Trump would act like a functioning adult at some debate and the Pundits would scream his praises about how awesome it was, until the next day when the stupid crap Trump was saying sunk in. Trump’s a successful reality TV show star so of course Trump can play the emotions.
Tenar Arha
I’ve been following Alexandra Erin’s Twitter feed more & more. I’m not going to copy paste more than 2/3 tweets but she has a tweetstorm analysis of the beats of the speech. It begins with what everyone seems to have said was a condemnation of the antisemitic desecrations & bomb threats as well as the hate crime in Kansas.
Then she analyzes the two sentences & notices something is missing.
That particular part concludes that Dolt45 said “condemning” but he never says he condemns anything. This appears to me as a classic dog whistle to his followers, while “ordinary” listeners elide the missing bits & hear something else entirely.

@Enhanced Voting Techniques:
Trump is sociopath who can fake emotions.
Not consistently though.

@Mary G: oh no, you too?
Went to the clinic today and got diagnosed with acute bronchitis and acute sinusitis–basically collapsed after what I believe to have been a successful 3.5-hour interview yesterday. Have me on antibiotics, an inhaler, about 3 OTC meds, and bed rest.
PPCLI
@Tenar Arha: And he couldn’t even bother to say the names of the victims in what he just called “the shooting in Kansas City”.

I hate the fact that the initial reporting is such a transparent attempt to normalize him, as if the prevailing sentiment is now ‘Okay, you had your protest, but now it’s time to put it behind us.’
The media can’t get back to being stenographers quick enough. I guess using journalistic muscles is too much work.

Regarding the CT special election – the 32nd district is super conservative. The candidate ran in November and lost by 11,000 votes; last night, he lost by 2,000. I’m so proud of my friends at Code Blue and Action Together CT who spearheaded the GOTV.

More like a trained dog, when the right treat is shown Trump will do his tricks but when there is none he chases every squirrel seen or imagined. It’s hard to buy Trump is even capable of putting the effort into being a Sociopath.
