Here’s the updated chart of Trump’s false claims by week. Look at those last three months. pic.twitter.com/SjmBT7clLc
— Daniel Dale (@ddale8) September 17, 2018
This afternoon in chronological order:
– President stands by Supreme Court nominee accused of crime
– Special counsel announces former national security adviser to be sentenced for crime
– Investigation of FEMA chief referred to prosecutors to assess possible crimes

the WH will stand behind Kavenaugh but one thing you have to remember:
1. the WH is thinking more about Trump than Kavenaugh
2. the WH is not very competent https://t.co/YQ0DVC4BC3

… Republicans should be holding themselves to an especially high standard on this, and not only because they have nominated and elected a president who has had serious accusations of sexual harassment and sexual assault leveled at him. Politicians of both parties have, over time, been guilty of terrible crimes. But Republicans have a particular obligation here because their public-policy positions have put them on the side of those who oppose equality and full citizenship for women, and because they nominate far fewer women for elected office. To be sure: Many Republicans (including many Republican women) strongly dispute that they are in any sense anti-woman. This, then, is an excellent time for them to demonstrate that they really do consider crimes against women to be major offenses…

You are quite right about Frist.
Good Morning, Everyone ???
One small corner of me does appreciate how Republicans have painted themselves into this corner with radioactive paint.
I appreciate your optimism.
Sadly, my opinion of the average American voter does not allow me to hold that positive of an outlook.
@Schlemazel: Frankly, as upsetting as discovering the Russian interference was, it also made me realize all of this wasn’t “coming from inside the house.”
We aren’t that stupid. We had help.
I think I’m going to puke.
@OzarkHillbilly: He had to go to his B list material when the enchanting minivan/carpool lines were forever burned by Senate Republicans.
Help, true but the weed would not have flourished had the ground not been well fertilized before planting.
Hey, a guy like that you have to let him have the occasional light murder as a reward
And we know what makes a potent fertilizer…
Don’t step in the Fox ‘News’
Police are civilians. Period. This equation of cops with the military is so wrong and dangerous. They are not military personnel, they are civilians.
@Schlemazel: Do you know how much ammo cost these days? I think he should sue Laquan’s estate for the theft of all 16 bullets.
@balconesfault: every RW accusation against the left is a confession, no exceptions.
At the very least! Did they check his home for marijuana? I am so sure they would find drugs there that they should bring some with to not let him get away with it
@rikyrah: Good morning.
@Immanentize: It’s war! And we are the enemy.
British diver sues Beetlejuice for $75,000 over ‘pedo’ claim
I’m disappointed, that’s not even couch change.
Check the comments on that Bloomberg op-ed if you want to be nauseated.
@OzarkHillbilly: It’s the minimum threshold for establishing federal jurisdiction in a lawsuit not arising out of a federal law.
@Barbara: I’m still disappointed. Why not billions?

I had my first cardiac rehab session yesterday. Those people weren’t kidding around. It’ll be an hour, three times a week, for 12 weeks. I’ll be wired up while I do half an hour on each of two machines. Yesterday, I had orientation so I only walked for 25 minutes on a treadmill at 3 miles/hour with a +1 incline. The nurse orienting me explained some thing whose acronym I can’t remember (MEG?) but it had to do with your metabolism. I supposed to improve by 1 over the course of the rehab
Had an incident Friday that I’ve been chewing on ever since:
My estimator (woman) and a body man, in front office, trading “blsck” jokes. ( isnt it nice they no longer say N. ) i made my disgust known, and reply was ” Its ok, my g/f is black.” And back to jokes. I took a walk, as you can’t teach pigs to sing.
My question is this: the day before, I spent the morning in that office, with our regional trainer, a black woman. I know they would not make those jokes in her presence.
Why in mine? Because I’m white and therefore in the club?
(Dont say see HR. Theyre not there for employees)
Dorothy A. Winsor
@MagdaInBlack: Exactly. One of the most offensive things about being told a racist joke is the assumption that I’m cool with it.
They certainly seem to be trained like civilians believe the military has been trained.
That can’t be a real tweet…is it?
Uh huh ? ?
Uh huh ? ?
That is who they are
Morning jackals. The current Republicans are the biggest fuckups. Putin, voter suppression, the media, and the electoral college gave them all the power and they turned it to shit and then rolled in it.
Only problem is that it’s only 75k. Should have sued for far more.
Just heard that Israel shot down a Russian plane in Syria, killing all 15 aboard. Can’t wait to see those two go at it. //
@Dorothy A. Winsor:
Just do the rehab, and wishing you a complete recovery ??
Netanyahu and Putin have both been devastating for their respective countries. I hope the citizens of Russia and Israel will figure this out and be able to do something to fix it.
@debbie: The Syrians shot down the plane, but the Russians are blaming the Israelis. They are claiming a strike force of F-16’s hid behind the radar pattern of the Russian plane and drew Syrian ground fire to hit the Russian plane by mistake. All in a days work in that cluster fuck over there, I reckon.
TS (the original)
He is also suing in the UK and for punative damages in the US
From the BBC
Love the Brothers Osborne reference.
It’s ok my g/f is black might be the worst part.
@Dorothy A. Winsor: METS maybe? “One metabolic equivalent (MET) is defined as the amount of oxygen consumed while sitting at rest and is equal to 3.5 ml O2 per kg body weight x min.”
What Barbara is telling you is that the plaintiff might indeed be seeking a shit ton of money. But all you have to plead in order to stay in federal court is something along the lines of “damages in an amount to be proved at trial, which are in excess of $75,000.”
It’s lawyer talk about which you should be hesitant to draw the conclusions you’re drawing.
@debbie: Just for the record, the Russians are saying it was a Syrian missile that was fired at Israeli jets that brought down their surveillance plane.
@Dorothy A. Winsor:
Everyone I know who has done the rehab gained a lot from it. Just knowing that you can figure out where your fitness is and push the limits a bit in a safe place is a big help. Hope you have a positive experience.
For all the people who thought we should have done more in Syria, it’s a reminder that there are a lot of active parties and none of the interests align perfectly.
Dorothy A. Winsor
@cintibud: Yes! That’s it. I’m supposed to increase that by 1.
@rikyrah: @MomSense: Thank you! I don’t mind working out. I’ve done it regularly for decades. I was just unaware of how thorough this would be. I’ll be bouncing with energy when I’m done.
Next time pull out your phone and tell them you want to record them to share online so everyone can hear thier jokes.
@Cleardale: Exactly. The phone is a great idea, and pulling it out will pull you out of “the club” [of white people who enjoy demeaning jokes about others.]
Accusation against Kavanaugh resonates with Anita Hill’s example
Rachel Maddow replays some of Anita Hill’s testimony against Clarence Thomas to the Senate Judiciary Committee and notes the familiar themes emerging in the sexual assault accusation against Brett Kavanaugh, which will now be heard in a Senate hearing as well.
Kavanaugh sex assault accuser faces spotlight as anonymity fails
Emma Brown, investigative reporter for The Washington Post, talks with Rachel Maddow about how the stories about accusations of sexual assault against Donald Trump Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh evolved until the details and the identity of the accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, became public
Good morning everyone.
I just saw the previous thread, w/ the Carlson “things were better back then” nonsense, and I’m glad he got called out on it to his face. Yes, less diverse is always what they mean by ‘better’.
This country needs more education and less cable news, that’s for sure.

Democrats press need for investigation into Kavanaugh accusation
Senator Richard Blumenthal talks with Rachel Maddow about the need for investigations into the sexual assault accusation against Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh ahead of next week’s Senate hearing on the matter.
Trump declassifies Russia investigation docs, security be damned
Senator Richard Blumenthal talks with Rachel Maddow about the threat to U.S. intelligence sources and methods posed by Donald Trump’s declassifying documents in the ongoing Trump Russia investigation.
Surely you mean “more cohesive.”
@rikyrah: @Dorothy A. Winsor: METS
metabolic equivalents, an estimate of how hard you are/can work, calculated from speed and grade on the treadmill. Lying in bed awake is 1 MET. Often a cardiac rehab program would like to see you able to maintain 9 METS but that goal can be different for a program as well as the individual.
Sister Rail Gun of Warm Humanitarianism
@OzarkHillbilly: I can only imagine how orgasmic the Christianists find that news.
@Sister Rail Gun of Warm Humanitarianism: They all await Armageddon with bated breath.
@OzarkHillbilly: That is a cool sport. It’s why I like the biathlon — snow skiing and shooting. Two crazy skills smacked together to remind us the Finns kicked Russia’s ass in ’39.
That’s why there’s this weird disconnect going on where Democrats are actually running on these economic issues and they get no coverage. With the exception of Dave Weigel. He covers their actual campaigns.
They’re running on these issues because the Democratic position is popular.
My only complaint this cycle is I wish Democrats would focus more on student loans. Trump and his low quality hires flat-out suck on student loans. There’s a huge target on their backs. DeVos can be the poster child. No one likes her anyway. It’s not a huge group, people who are really upset about student loans but they’re 1. young and 2. they probably vote. It’s a good investment.
I’m going to a state party event tonight in the county east of here. This is the county that Ohio Democrats use as a “bellweather” for Presidential elections in the northern half of the state, it’s 50/50 R and D, so I’m curious if they’re optimistic.
I’m going to need alcohol in my coffee or a new rule to never check twitter until winethirty.
Stormy’s description of the Trump weenie is out.
Oh, come ON! I see it done all the time!
In the movies.
@OzarkHillbilly: Thanks. Fascinating info about background of competitors. Liked bit about young girl learning sport from her parents. Pictures are amazing.
“It reminded me of an especially repulsive cocktail weenie. Only smaller.”
You mean THAT description? Glad I could help.
@Kay: The group that is very interested in student loans includes not just the students, but all the parents of those students; especially all of them that co-signed the loans
Apparently Mayor Mike is making noises about running for Pres in 2020 as a Democrat. Fucking awesome. Maybe he can get some “No Labels” patriot to be his running mate.
I can’t even remember my home phone number.
Probably too late for it to matter to me and Mrs. SFAW, but maybe they’d do some retroactive debt forgiveness. And maybe I’ll wake up tomorrow as my 35-year-old self with all my hair. (Well, maybe not the hair, it was already pretty thin by that age.)
Me either. [Your telephone number, that is.]
Uh oh. If she said it was small, what are the odds of seeing a dick pic from the president? He’d say it was his, but it would really be some male porn star who is especially well endowed.
@Immanentize: And we are seeing grandparents on the hook for their family’s student loans, when they need the $$ for retirement, and cannot make it anew.
Student loans is a great cause. The system does not have to be this way; it did not used to be. Europe handles it way better.
Having well educated citizens, and excellent colleges and universities, is in the public interest. For everyone but Republican politicians and their owners, I guess.
@WaterGirl: Boogie Nights, The White House version
@MomSense: just read the piece. Fortunately, I ate breakfast several hrs ago. Glad I didn’t have a mushroom omelet. I don’t care what anyone says, Trump is not a “fungi.” ?
Le Comte de Monte Cristo, fka Edmund Dantes
College is for trolls from money – Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch, Larry Kudlow.
For those folks, there never should have been a Barack Obama, a Bill Clinton, a Dwight Eisenhower.
@SFAW: Daily Beast headline is brutal. The Guardian a bit shy in the reveal. ?
I’ll spare folks the details on >little< Trump, but I will leave this quote here:
“It may have been the least impressive sex I’d ever had, but clearly, he didn’t share the opinion.”
@WaterGirl: It’s a toad, and when I read the description I had the same thought as you.
He’s going to provide his own description, or better yet have Melania dispute the description.
@PVDMichael: oh, come on… Let’s have an entire thread devoted to mocking Trump’s Johnson. Might give us a new measure of a “T Bogg Unit.” ?
@SFAW: That’s a load off my mind.
@WaterGirl: He’ll just steal a pic of Weiner’s weaner,
@Jeffro: For most people a lot of the “it was better back then” comes from the fact that they were kids with limited knowledge of and no responsibility for the whole mess. Their kid bubble is mistaken for the whole world.
@Quinerly: Why are people always running down Mario and the game klan?
@Kay: Agree 100%. My experience canvassing in a remote corner of Maryland is that the four pressing issues are: protecting Medicaid and Medicare, tackling the opioid crisis, school funding and school safety, and bringing jobs to the county that actually have a benefits package. Local Dems are running on these issues. Trump’s name doesn’t even come up in the campaign literature.
Ronan Farrow may have the Apprentice outtakes/tapes. I’m late to this news… it’s what Tom Arnold and Mark Burnette were fighting about. We are truly living in a reality show.
“It’s the biggest, classiest, most BEE-YOO-TEE-FUL toad ever. Even God couldn’t create a toad this beautiful!”
Formerly disgruntled in Oregon
That’s for damn sure. There’s a great policy platform you got there too! It fits on a bumper sticker and everything. Won’t get you booked on MSNBC though… (but who cares?!!)
Better for privileged preppy white guys like him then and pretty damn terrific for them now.
Formerly disgruntled in Oregon
Another vanity campaign. 2019 is going to be full of them. We’ll see how many drop out before the Dem primary debates vs how many will stick around to participate in humiliating “kids table” forums packed with also-runnings. Should be a nice blow to the ego for a number of politically-inclined celebrities. (At least Bloomberg’s been elected to something.)
Also for a pretty good sized portion of their respective populations, they seem to differ in finding glory in working with the populations that they serve. My friend who is now in the middle east thinks the people from the country he’s in are cool. How many cops think that the populations they serve are? On the whole it seems to me that cops are more at war with the people they are paid to serve than the military is.
@OzarkHillbilly: That might just be the least bad of the possible options!
In case anyone didn’t see this yesterday (thanks to the person who originally posted it) this might be a good antidote to talk of Trump’s private parts.
@OzarkHillbilly: And the amount that Unsworth is seeking in the U.K. proceeding is not yet known, and given that country’s defamation laws, that’s where the real money will be.
@OzarkHillbilly: Yow, what gorgeous photos!
I’m with you – having tried old-fashioned “just stand there and try to hit the target” archery, as well as trying to control a galloping horse, I can’t imagine ever possessing the chops it takes to try mounted archery!
@Formerly disgruntled in Oregon: Started off my birthday morning yelling at a Leftier-than-thou FB friend who was moaning about our governor John Hickenlooper exploring a 2020 Presidential run. And all of her friends piling on with the Hillary/moderate Dem hate. I mean, really, people? When we’ve got Trump in the White House, and other assholes in the Evil Richie Rich Club thinking they’re entitled to run for President, you have some nerve meeping about John fucking Hickenlooper.
@rikyrah: I almost always listen to Maddow as a podcast, but I can’t get through last night’s episode because of the replay of the Thomas debacle. It’s too painful to listen to those old white men fail and fail in the face of a brave woman. I really can’t forgive Biden.
