Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

In my day, never was longer.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

I was confident that someone would point it out and thought why not me.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

Republicans would impeach Biden if he bit into a whole Kit Kat rather than breaking the sections apart.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

It’s easier to kill a dangerous animal than a man who just happens to have different thoughts/values than one’s own.

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Bad news for Ron DeSantis is great news for America.

Another missed opportunity for Jamie Dimon to just shut the fuck up.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

I’m more Christian than these people and I’m an atheist.

Nikki Haley, who can’t acknowledge ‘slavery’, is a pathetic shill.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

Internetless Coordinator Dan B writes:

I’ve made a reservation at Bluwater Bistro for 5:30 PM, Saturday the 4th

I haven’t received an email confirmation despite calling back twice. Right hand, left hand… but we should have one for 12 peeps.

Bluwater is at 102 Lakeside Ave. 98112 Locals call it Lake Washington Blvd.

It’s right next to Leschi Park and Marina. It’s “interesting” getting to Leschi so consult your map or GPS if you haven’t been before.

Saturday is Opening Day of boating (yachting?) season so traffic across the ship canal will be nearly impossible if you are coming from the north. I-5 and I-90 are recommended although the 520 floating bridge may be okay. The exit to Lake Washington Blvd may be fine. Check your phone’s map if you have one. The drive down Lake Washington Blvd is windy and lovely billionaire homes and dykiiki (nude beach, keep your eyes on the road).

I will be the 6 foot tall 200 lb guy with salt and pepper beard and hair. Hopefully with a green balloon. (Where does one get those these days?)

Reservation is under Dan B.

Look for a ‘Party City’ or similar name on Google Maps. Usually located in a strip mall convenient to suburban consumers, at least here in New England.

I’m confused. I thought the Seattle meetup was being held at the Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia.

@Steve in the ATL: That’s the Chicago meetup you’re thinking of :)

Great work, Dan B, and thanks so much! Looking forward to seeing everyone!

    @Steve in the ATL:
That’s the Lexington, MA, meetup. My dad was the sculptor’s model for all the figures on the Minute Men bas-relief there; a paying gig when he was an undergrad. (She used other people for the faces.)

@Steve in the ATL: Alright already! How about a compromise, jackal type.. Midway is another “L”, Leavenworth. They’ve got a rooming house with memorable cuisine. It’s perfect for eville attorneys, and disagreeable jackals – just sayin.

    Happy now?

P.S. Having fun in Red Hen, Virginia. Is there a Peachtree Street? BTW we don’t have peachtrees in Seattle, too damp and the tropical waters of Puget Sound make for chilly nights. Have to go to Portland where the night breezes don’t blow from the north across glacial aqua.

    Seconded, and seconded.
Thanks especially for the Opening Day advisory.

For those outside the region, “opening” is literal: the city’s bascule bridges will be opening more often than usual, to let boats pass; it slows down the non-boat traffic.

It’s acceptable to stop your car engine, put your vehicle in Park, and hop out to watch the boat(s) go past. It’s courteous to hop back in early enough to be prepared to move when the bridge re-opens to traffic. :)

@H.E.Wolf: Do you see any hint of yourself in the Minute”men” figures? See you tomorrow for your answer, and maybe photos.

@piratedan: An hour would be good because getting to Leschi, on the lake can take 15 minutes from I-5. Columbia City takes 5 minutes. Lake takes sacrifice. Lake has rewards..

    @Dan B:

Shall we do a jackal salute to you? We can cast perfectly rational and reasonable aspersions on your character, or photoshop the face of Darth Cheney, or various sundry other scoundrels into our group photo, with your nym placed appropriately, of course.

    That all sounds good.

    Stephen Miller,

    NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE!

And, are you going to have a wonderful evening or an obligation?

I thought I’d be less tired this week from my birthday and the job hunt than I really am already, and tomorrow’s the Snohomish Master Gardeners plant sale that I’m working all day, so the idea of a round trip from Marysville afterwards just isn’t in the cards.

On the other hand, I just got word that I’m a “strong candidate” for one of the jobs I applied for this week, so maybe next time, I can buy all the jackals a round to celebrate.

    Well done!

Will I be a platypus or lovely cuddly Wombat?

I was in a grand garden in Northern Ireland where Winston Churchill’s statue was a Dodo. Got anything on thst?

Thanks again, Dan B, for organizing, and PirateDan for being the reason we needed to do it now.
