I don't think that Trump actually has much sway in general elections. I think that a key question for the GOP is if his base will come out to vote if he's not on the ticket. And I think his bluster about turnout is part CYA and part delusion. https://t.co/7niaIdXKPN

Isn’t it nice that Broadway is opening up, the Metropolitan Opera opened with a new opera by a Black composer and followed it with the original version of Boris Godunov, people are getting boosters, we have good, intelligent, well-meaning people staffing our Federal agencies, and we have honest and hard-working president and vice president? All of that makes me very happy. Plus we’re teaching our students in person and we’ve had no outbreaks.

At NRSC retreat, Trump continued false claims of fraud, urged GOP to stick together and relitigated much. “I’m not into golden showers,” he told the crowd. “You know the great thing, our great first lady–‘That one,’ she said, ‘I don’t believe that one.’”

Trump stitched these word things into sentences and said them out loud? To a crowd? With his braying crowd voice? How is Tucker handling stenographing this on the air? How is it going over in South Dakota at the cafe?

I’m reading Stacey Abrams’ mystery novel “While Justice Sleeps.” It’s a good read, suspenseful, keeps moving (considering how much of the action involves lawyers’ discussions), and has a great protagonist. I hope she writes more (in her copious spare time). The writing is pretty good for a non-pro. Occasional howlers  are fun. @David ? ☘The Establishment☘? Koch: Pfizer.  I don’t believe they’re offering the others at Kaiser WA yet.  It was very quiet when I was there at 9:30 AM.  The shots were by appointment and there was no one in line behind me and nobody waiting 15 minutes afterwards.  The jabbers were desperate to talk to someone so I high tailed it out if there and delivered some excess cookware to friends – got two countertop induction units so had to buy new pots and pans.  The kitchen suddenly shrank with all the new stuff.

@The Dangerman: Now the Atlantic is telling me you shouldn’t get a second J&J but should get Pfizer or Moderna as a booster. I guess the FDA is going to have to sort it out.

Really nice owl. Any specific species of owl you were shooting for? We have quite a few Barred Owls in the neighborhood, have seen some Great Horned Owls both here and in AZ near the winter camp. Thanks for sharing!

The free-hand watercolor elephant painting is very good. My mom took up watercolor/mixed media after the family sold the business. She took classes, and painted every week with 2 friends, they would drive into the countryside and pick a place to park and paint.

Quaint farm houses, waterfalls, streams, rocky hills, etc. By the time she had to quit from fading health she had shows and won awards. Was wonderful with handicraft work, refinished a dining room suite, refinished beautiful old furniture from the antique junk shops she loved.

Keep up the watercolor work, you’re good at it~!!!~

@debbie: She mentioned it when I inquired about soap and lotion availability.  It’s why she’s not been commenting much here.  I referred her to Watergirl’s post about people purchasing things because of commenter’s recommendations.  Satby’s soaps got more comments than anything else.  She found the post and was happy to read our glowing praise.

@David ? ☘The Establishment☘? Koch: I was fatigued for about 5 days.  No aches to speak of.  Now I’ve got pains in several places.  It might have to do with the flu shot I got ten days ago – souped up immune system?

Back in Feb/Mar of 2021 Wife and I got our Moderna shots. Then in the end of August, so 6 weeks ago, friend who works for the county health dept as a field inspector emailed us about that health dept seeking people for 3rd shots, any shots, as they had vaccines nearing expiration.

So, near the end of Aug we both got a 3rd shot of Moderna, full dose as administered after first being approved last winter. No serious side effects, so glad to have gotten a full size dose already.

    @debbie:

I had a hard 2 days after Pfizer #2. #1 and 3 were nothing. I think that it really depends on how an individual builds resistance to whatever the vaccine is for and that is going to determine what and when of any reaction.

@zhena gogolia: Antibodies aren’t the only indicator, but it’s the one they’re going with.

I have a study follow-up visit next week. I assume they’ll take lots of blood, but I’m going to see what I can find out.

    From the article:

All the findings described above may be telling just part of the story. Remember, the NIH study used antibody counts, which are a proxy measure of actual immunity. Antibodies represent the body’s first line of defense against the coronavirus, but they’re not our only weapon. Immune cells, such as B and T cells, are also important, especially in the long run. (Sax told me that some researchers guess that J&J might be especially good at inducing the latter, longer-lasting form of immunity.) The best way to determine which of the nine mix-and-match options produces the best protection from disease would be to recruit thousands of volunteers for a randomized controlled trial, and then count how many people on each regimen get sick over an extended period. But short of doing that, antibody levels provide the best and most convenient information that can be garnered quickly from the greatest number of people.

@Baud: I’m not sure about tiny, but J&J is mostly rural and low income because of the simpler storage requirement, so not really a big demographic here.  I got it back in April, and haven’t decided on J&J or one of the others for a booster.

As a Canuck who has a mixed vax dosage (AZ and Moderna), it was wonderful to see that we will be permitted into the US by land shortly.
Canada took a risk during early days of vaccination where we didn’t have much volume, so we stretched the length of time between shots and said that mixing was okay.
It was a decision that has paid off and the science supports it.
