Per the Washington Post:

… The “very sad and depressed” 5-year-old feline, a New Jersey shelter said, was waiting for someone to adopt him.

The call-out that went viral — possibly thanks to Fishtopher’s decidedly unimpressed expression — has been answered: A Maryland couple drove to pick up the “big cheeky boy” at the shelter this weekend.

“FISHTOPHER HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!” the Blackwood, N.J., shelter said Saturday.

Social media users have avidly followed Fishtopher’s story since a Twitter post with a screenshot of the seemingly grumpy cat’s online adoption profile was posted on Thanksgiving Day, earning more than 169,000 likes…

Tanner Callahan, 24, applied to adopt Fishtopher after his partner, Laura Folts, 22, sent the link to the cat’s profile — though it wasn’t initially “a super serious thing,” Folts told The Washington Post on Twitter. “We had been talking of Tanner adopting a cat or dog since he moved into his new (bigger) place, and had a trend of me sending cute animals as a joke,” she added.

Callahan lives in Baltimore, and Folts outside of the city. The couple posted pictures of their journey home with Fishtopher on Twitter…

Folts tweeted that Fishtopher has feline immunodeficiency virus, or FIV, which weakens cats’ immune systems and is similar to the human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV. Cats cannot transmit FIV to humans…

The executive director of Homeward Bound, Lysa Boston, told Insider, “We are thrilled with all the attention that he [Fishtopher] got and hope that it will make people realize that we have so many wonderful cats and dogs as well up for adoption that are so often overlooked.”

Fishtopher the cat got some circulation on socials the last couple days. and the folks who adopted him are being so kind to share many pics of him with us. let's not badger them, but also, LOOOOK at him! https://t.co/CSBkCyxzty

— Suzy (endless screaming) (@mis_cue) November 26, 2022

Of course, Fishtopher has his very own twitter account, now — and he (his humans) share pics of other forlorn shelter cats who are still looking for their own happy endings…

Sooo many cats and dogs need homes. My latest little street cat rescue Bitchleen and her 5 week old kitten Murderpaws are doing really well. After just over six weeks of consistent healthy food momma went from a stunted older kitten size to full grown, though smaller, cat size. Complete transformation.

(yeah, YOU try coming up with different names after more than 40 years of rescues)

    Hey, dudes just asking questions.

SAO PAULO, Dec 3 (Reuters) – Twitter owner Elon Musk said on Saturday he thought it was “possible” that personnel at the social media firm gave preference to left-wing candidates during Brazil’s election this year, without providing evidence.

    […]

“I’ve seen a lot of concerning tweets about the recent Brazil election,” Musk wrote on Twitter when asked by a user about elections possibly “handled” by the company’s previous management.

“If those tweets are accurate, it’s possible that Twitter personnel gave preference to left wing candidates,” added the billionaire.

Update on the Hell-cat’s four demon spawn:  I captured number one last Saturday, and thought “this is going to be easy.”  Wrong!  Took me until yesterday to capture number two, so at least number one is no longer lonely and they’re snuggling together on the soft, plush bedding I got for them.   I have appointments with Indy Humane to get them all fixed on December 27 and 29, so I have a few more weeks to capture numbers 3 and 4.  I’m also feeding 5 big cats, so that complicates matters.  If anyone (Satby) has any advice please chime in!

@Amir Khalid: It can be amazing how pets blossom once they are adopted. I worked in a rescue and there was this little beagle/chihuahua dog that was being completely overlooked. He was quiet and just didn’t stand out. I was looking for a dog, but didn’t want to take one that would otherwise get a home easily, so after a couple of weeks when there was no interest, I adopted him. I didn’t have a fenced yard so I took him for walks 4 times a day and for a full month we were totally ignored by everyone. Then one day, I went on one of our walks and people started telling me what a cute dog he was and it wasn’t just one or two it was everybody who was outside. It turns out all he needed was a little love and suddenly his whole body language changed. He was with me for 4 years and then got a tumor in his kidneys and I had to make sure he no longer suffered. For 4 years he was the best dog I’ve had. He was totally devoted to me and he was happy. Just being loved and secure changes animals for the better.

We are moving through our grieving process for our beloved Ripley and starting to think about applying to rescue groups for our next family member.  Unfortunately, the kid wants a dog he can pick up (at the moment) and the husband wants a (present or future) running buddy, which probably means a puppy mix of a medium-sized active breed.  Which means… who has two thumbs and will be the one housetraining? (answer: this person)  I mean, I “can” do it; I taught Ripley to play piano (so to speak). I just don’t “love” the idea of it. ;)

Really pleased about the progress of this lawsuit. Fox’s multimillionaire celebrity hosts and guests lied about this company for months. They lied to advance their own careers and line their own pockets and I hope Fox finally has to pay for the damage they do.
When all the other systems fail sometimes the civil legal system – taking their money- doesn’t fail- see: Alex Jones.

Lachlan Murdoch, the chief executive of the Fox Corporation, is expected to be deposed on Monday as part of a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit against Fox News for amplifying bogus claims that rigged machines from Dominion Voting Systems were responsible for Donald J. Trump’s defeat in 2020.
Mr. Murdoch will be the most senior corporate figure within the Fox media empire to face questions under oath in the case so far. And his appearance before Dominion’s lawyers is a sign of how unexpectedly far and fast the lawsuit has progressed in recent weeks — and how contentious it has become.
Fox and Dominion have gone back and forth in Delaware state court since the summer in an escalating dispute over witnesses, evidence and testimony. The arguments point to the high stakes of the case, which will render a judgment on whether the most powerful conservative media outlet in the country intentionally misled its audience and helped seed one of the most pervasive lies in American politics.
Although the law leans in the media’s favor in defamation cases, Dominion has what independent observers have said is an unusually strong case. Day after day, Fox hosts and guests repeated untrue stories about Dominion’s ties to communist regimes and far-fetched theories about how its software enabled enemies of the former president to steal his votes.

@Wyatt Salamanca: I found the evolution in McConnell’s posture towards Walker’s candidacy  significant.  When Trump first proposed Walker as a candidate, McConnell expressed scepticism, and Georgia Repuicans were also cool to the idea. Within ten days they decided  that Walker was not such a bad candidate after all.

I suspect they had in mind the sharp dropoff in Republican votes in the January, 2021 Senate runoffs. Many attributed it to didgruntled Trump supporters sitting out the runoffs to punish the “RINO” establishment. Now Trump was insisting on Walker, and Republicans feared that denying him in this matter could doom Kemp and the rest of their Georgia ticket.

Had it not been for Trump’s sponsorship of Walker, Mr. Black, the state Agriculture Commissioner, likely would have been their candidate to run against Senator Warnock.

Her name remains absolutely applicable; she is the sweetest great big ol’ dawg ever.  Took her to obedience class and the instructor was so impressed with how smart and trainable she was— she graduated early!

Ripley and Cooper, the Yorkies, have come around (mostly— when you’re 10 pounds an 80 pound slobbery beast is rather intimidating even when you know she’s not going to eat you); and while three of the four cats refuse to come downstairs yet, the youngest has become Sweetie’s own cat, allowed to steal kibble from Sweetie’s bowl.

It is true that I described McConnell’s actions in the Walker matter without making a more general moral condemnation of him.

Even though it’s 2022, I still feel the same level of outrage as I did on Election Day of 2016.  McConnell, Pence, et. al. knew damn well that Trump was not remotely qualified to be President and that he was a horrendous human being. Yet they enthusiastically supported his candidacy.

Just yesterday, Trump openly called for ripping up the Constitution and installing him as a dictator.  McConnell and every Rethuglican serving in the House and Senate should be hounded by the media to state for the record if they agree with this latest garbage vomited out by Trump.

And I thought my family was the only one to name our pets strangely … not to mention giving them nicknames.

    Current feline menagerie (all rescues):

    1. Scylla, aka “KittyCow” (her sister, Charybdis, met a tragic end several years ago).

    2. Yin, aka “Yinny-bug” … who is sister to ..

    3. Yang, aka “Yang-yang Dah Stewpit Kitty” (you’d have to see look on his face).

    4. Chimera, aka “Little Wicked Kitty Thing” (found as a newborn laying on the freezing ground Christmas Day about 4 years ago, no momcat in sight).

    The current canine menagerie:

    1. Fenris, aka “Fenny-ma-renny” (a Great Pyrenees mix-mutt)

His companion, Tuiren (aka Tu-tu-Magoo), a beagle, passed away from what we think was a stroke last week.  :>(

And many others who have passed over the Rainbow Bridge.

And I have a hunch Cruz will run for President. He’ll never win the nomination, but at least that way Cruz can end his career on a high note: he’ll have lost because he stood up for true conservative principles, and not because his fellow Texans think he’s an asshole.

Then Cruz will join a fancy Houston law firm and make good money. Elite law firms like having an ex-Senator in the partnership.

    What does “woke” mean?
It’s a question liberals and progressives often would like to ask Republicans, whose ubiquitous use of the term “woke” — a phrase originally used by progressives to signify an awareness of racial and economic injustices endemic to U.S. society — has turned the word into a four-letter pejorative.
During the three-day trial this week challenging Gov. Ron DeSantis’ suspension of Hillsborough County State Attorney Andrew Warren, attorneys for Warren were able to put that question to aides for DeSantis, who called Florida the place where “woke goes to die” in his victory speech after being reelected last month.

Here is DeSantis attorney defing “woke”:

Asked what “woke” means more generally, Newman said “it would be the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them.”

Finally- a clear recitation of what the War On Woke is about – they oppose addressing injustices.

Totally agree on teh rest of your comment. Christie at least will make a showing in fund-raising and polling, I don’t know how well he’ll do in actual primaries before losing. Given his resume, from West Point to Secretary of State, it’s remarkable what an insignificant figure Mike Pompeo is. It’s hard to make predictions, especially about the future, but I’m pretty confident that he’s washed up.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Something I keep in mind about Pompeo is his connection to the Koch network. When Pompeo left the Army, the Kochs financed the purchase of a Wichita aircraft component manufacturer by Pompeo and three partners. After a few years Pompeo won the Kansas House seat centered on Wichita, which is the headquarters of Koch Industries.. He was the Kochs’ blue-eyed boy, and that network still stands even if there is only one Koch brother left. All that is to say that Pompeo will not lack for money if he runs.

Plus, Pompeo has been cultivating the political evangelical network, in competition with DeSantis. I think Pompeo will run, and if things break his way he could be one of the last two men standing. And while this may be a minority opinion here, I don’t think Trump will be one of the two.

One thing I’m not confident of: That he will take the GOP down with him if he can’t have the nomination, as so many never-trumpers have been saying in the last couple weeks. I still think that if it seems like the nomination is slipping away from him, there will be back channel negotiations with whoever the front-runner is that a plenary pardon will be signed on Inauguration Day in the name of unity and moving on, in return for trump not going kamikaze on Kemp or Youngkin. While I place no bets on it, I increasingly get a Scott Walker vibe off De Santis, and I think some kindler, gentler fraud in a fleece vest will pull ahead of him.

and yet another hedge: Even if trump sorta kinda makes nice with the RINO who takes away his nomination, will he be able to control himself? Will he start riffing at some rally/ies and fatally wound the hand that would spare him

Your pity is well directed. My advertising agency had a paint company as a client, and we also had a trendy clothing company that chose a theme for their colors each year. It often was difficult not to slip a few rude ones in.

Most of my cats took a while to tell me their name, but a friend with whom I do a trap/neuter/release program isn’t wildly creative. I was back in the States for a while one year and missed a litter, and I returned to find Little Girl, Big Girl, Little Man, and Spot. The cats didn’t care, but it brought this copywriter considerable pain.
