Rep. Dean Phillips told NBC News he has not reached out to the Democratic National Committee since it sent a letter to the New Hampshire Democratic Party on Friday criticizing the state for selecting delegates for what it called a “meaningless” unsanctioned presidential primary.

“I’ve made myself pretty clear about what they’re doing is the most egregious affront to democracy I’ve ever seen in my life,” he said. “Don’t take my word for it. Take the Department of Justice here in New Hampshire that felt compelled to send a letter to one of the two major political parties in the United States of America, asking them to cease and desist from the unlawful suppression of American voters.”

He then compared Democrats’ silence over calling the New Hampshire primary “meaningless” to Republicans’ silence after the Jan. 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol.

“I’m not going to now be quiet when I see my own party doing the same damn thing. They’re doing the same thing,” Phillips said. “And they’re doing it overtly thinking that they can delude the whole country into believing the nonsense that we’re protecting democracy.”…

    The “top editor” of the Los Angeles Times unexpectedly announced that he is stepping down. The NY Times reporting on this was very slapdash.

    The top editor of The Los Angeles Times, Kevin Merida, told staff members on Tuesday that he was stepping down “after considerable soul-searching about my career.”

    He said his last day would be on Friday.

    Mr. Merida was named the top editor of The Los Angeles Times in 2021. He had previously worked as a top editor at The Washington Post and ESPN.

    Merida is executive editor of the Los Angeles Times and was managing editor at The Washington Post. It shouldn’t be difficult for the supposed “paper of record” to get it right.

    Anyway, this is bad news for journalism. The LA Times has been struggling for some time now.

    A London coroner’s office said Tuesday that the Irish singer Sinead O’Connor died from natural causes.

    Ms. O’Connor, 56, was found dead at a residential property in London in July. Shortly afterward, the local coroner announced they would conduct an autopsy of her body.

    In a brief statement on Tuesday, the coroner said that “Ms. O’Connor died of natural causes.” The coroner said they had “therefore ceased their involvement in her death.” No further details were given about the cause of death.

    *I* think it’s likely that an Irish woman in her 50s who had lived through as much trauma (starting with physical abuse as a small child) as O’Connor would quite likely die of untreated medical trauma — heart failure, diabetes, cancer.  It’s a medical truism that women of Irish ancestry ignore health issues even more than your average middle-aged man, and all too many of us die from dismissing symptoms that would send a less stoic person screaming to the nearest ER.  Abused children *also* grow up to deny the evidence of physical damage, for obvious reasons.

    Sniggering that she must’ve ‘actually’ died by suicide and/or a drug overdose is probably untrue and certainly unnecessary.

    I don’t think that they might be fudging. They explicitly ruled out suicide, homicide, or accidental death, which might legally call for more details or further investigation.
