Pekka Kallioniemi just published one of his famous #vatniksoup threads devoted to Johnson — here’s a selection. Throughline: Johnson’s entire career is as a servant to extremely fundamentalist businessmen, there’s been at least one incident where millions of dollars ‘disappeared’ while he was nominally in charge, and now he’s taking donations from Russian oligarchs. (Kallioniemi doesn’t reference Johnson’s ‘never had a bank account’ excuse for leaving no financial trail, but it’s certainly one more questionable detail.)

    This is the man who said on his financial disclosure form that he has no bank account. Some enterprising reporter needs to do some sniffing on Johnson. I consider his last name enough of a built in insult.​

    I am continually amazed/aghast that we live in a spy thriller.

    In my sillier moments, I imagine Maxwell Smart and the Chief under the doom of silence, Chief explaining to Smart that just about the entire Republican party has been bought out by the Russians.

    My daydream ends there because I can’t imagine what Agents Smart and 99, or for that matter, James Bond or any of the rest of them, can do about it. Same as in real life.

    There are hundreds of Reps and Senators, who ever heard of Mike Johnson (okay, people from his state and the Republican Party leadership), but someone the Russians knew to zero in on him.

So, when he reads the Bible, quite selectively, he makes sure it comes drained of its power and only pertains to an ethereal plain.

    @Ohio Mom: I don’t think the Russians had to guess or know Johnson was anyone special.  I think they got kompromat on hundreds of Republicans when they hacked the RNC computers in 2016, when Johnson was running for the House for the first time.

    After reading Heather Cox Richardson’s Letter just now, I have come to the conclusion that we have 3 presidents.  One legitimate.  The other two are “shadow” rulers, running things nefariously for their own plunder, with the help of their toadies/oiligarchs. Pooty and his toady Rump. We need to clean house, pronto, using industrial strength measures.
