Remember asshole U.S. House Rep. Joe Wilson, who shrieked “You lie!” at President Obama during a joint congressional address in 2009? Some of his constituents hurled that accusation back in his yellowing fangs yesterday:
Via the Post & Courier:
GRANITEVILLE — U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson received some protests Monday like other Republican congressmen nationwide during town halls this year, getting drowned out at times with loud boos and receiving 30 seconds of “You Lie” chants.
“I’ve also supported the local solicitor here, and the solicitor in Lexington all efforts to make sure that violence against women is fully enforced,” Wilson said, prompting one of the loudest negative responses of the congressman’s 40-minute question-and-answer session with voters in Aiken Technical College in Graniteville.
Many in the crowd of nearly 200 responded with a phrase he blurted out during a 2009 joint congressional address by then-President Barack Obama: “You lie! You lie! You lie!.” Wilson in 2013 voted against extending the Violence Against Women Act.
This is in South Carolina, y’all. The resistance is everywhere, and it’s a beauty to behold.
Droppy
Unfortunately “You Lie!” is an endorsement in Republican-speak, akin to “Way to go!” in normal-person-speak, so he heard it as praise. Republicans must interpret seething hatred as loving admiration, otherwise I don’t see how they get through the day.

People do seem to be speaking up a lot. The headline about a town hall meeting in Pittsburgh held by Senator Casey described the crowd as raucous. They were demanding that he work for better health care coverage and were opposed to getting more involved in Syria. Good to know that the Trump fatigue you read about is typical beltway fluff.

The Women’s Marches may have been the largest demonstration in US history
Updated by Sarah [email protected]@vox.com Jan 31, 2017, 11:11am EST
Crowd estimates from Women’s Marches on Saturday now tally over 4 million and political scientists think we may have just witnessed the largest day of demonstrations in American history.
According to data collected by Erica Chenoweth at the University of Denver and Jeremy Pressman at the University of Connecticut, marches held in more than 600 US cities were attended by at least 4.2 million people.
“Even using a conservative estimate, it was the single largest day for a demonstration in the US,” Chenoweth, an expert on political protests and civil resistance, told us.
Every state in America hosted a Women’s March, as you can see in the map above. The events ranged from tiny gatherings in small town squares to throngs of more than 500,000 people clogging streets in cities like Washington, DC, and Los Angeles.
Pressman said he started to track crowd numbers from organizers, local media outlets, and citizens who emailed or tweeted with links and reports early Saturday morning.
Chenoweth cautioned me that while 4.2 million Americans protesting on Saturday may be the largest turnout in US history in absolute terms, she wasn’t sure if it was the largest protest proportionally speaking. For instance, she said, it’s possible that protests in cities around the US against the Iraq War in 2003 may have drawn as many people or more relative to the population at that time.
I think that because the media hyped the teabaggers shitstorm. There was an all out strategy by the right to hype them, so the fact that people think they were huge is not that surprising, but the anti war protests, the immigration protests and even the sustained Wall Street protests were never given the same level of positive airtime, we’re just dirty, immigrants, fucking hippies and womens.

Also, the nearest R member of congress to me is one Dave Reichert (WA 08). He refuses to hold a town hall, so citizens are holding them without him. HRC won his district by 3 points. Female pensioner spared jail after having sex with dogs at ‘bestiality party’ claiming she didn’t know it was illegal
Carol Bowditch, 64, admitted a charge of having sex with an animal after believing it was ‘not a crime’
Carol Bowditch, 64, had sex with a St Bernard, a black labrador and an Alsatian claiming later she did not realise that it was illegal.
Her activities were exposed as a result of an RAF Police investigation which centred on a man identified as organising a bizarre sex party .
Owners watched their dogs having sex with women, who then had sex with the men.
Details of the event were later posted on an internet forum specialising in bestiality.
The investigation led police to visit Bowditch and when her home was searched officers found a DVD and a USB stick which both contained film of her with dogs………….
“Included was an eight minute and 59 seconds video of Mrs Bowditch engaging in vaginal and oral sex with a St Bernard dog named Oscar.
“When the defendant was interviewed she admitted she had penetrative sex with dogs.
“She accepted it had taken place over several years. She was unaware it was illegal.”………….
Bowditch was given a community order with 12 months supervision and a 16 week night-time curfew…….
Judge Michael Heath, passing sentence, told Bowditch “What you engaged in was first of all unlawful and secondly disgusting.
“I am told that you have received public humiliation as a result of the publicity that this case has attracted. That does not surprise me.”

I will be fixing that tomorrow morning when I wake up early to drive forty miles outside of St Louis to attend one with my senator, Claire McCaskill. I’m actually fairly happy with her positions and legislative priorities (filibustering Gorsuch as a senator from MO wasn’t a cakewalk) so I doubt I’ll be shouting “you lie,” but I do expect a lot of energy in the room in opposition to just about everything that is going on in DC and Jefferson City. My Congressman, Mark DeSaulnier, is holding a Town Hall in Richmond CA — a couple of miles from me — tonight. I’m planning to attend. He’s a Dem and liberal as hell, but I’m curious to see how he interacts with his voters. He’s a white man coming into a black town. His predecessor, George Miller, who held the seat from the time Noah was a pup, was super-senior in the House and much respected back home: he routinely got 70 – 80% of the vote in the district. Half the time the Rs chose not to run anyone against him, because it was total waste of someone’s time and money. Our district is a mix: white suburbs and heavy Hispanic/ PoC poor towns like the one I live in, low crime districts and high crime districts, strong corporate presence — the Chevron oil refinery — it’s going to be interesting to see how he handles himself.

I’m convinced that most Republican voters don’t pay one bit of attention to what Republican legislators actually do, look at the content of the bills they introduce or how they vote, only what R’s say they will do. An over 70 white male Republican who owns a tiny local newspaper wrote last week that after doing some research on Trump healthcare bill, only after it was pulled, he realized it didn’t do all he wanted it to do. He thought Trump should make the AHCA committee put out an affordable health care bill and had always thought a simple way would be to slowly lower Medicare eligibility age. I smacked my head and wondered where this guy has been all these years with Republicans chipping away at Medicare and advocating raising the eligibility age, never lowering it. The stupidity and gullibility is amazing.

I also think the comments she made at the KC fundraiser (which I guess you are characterizing as a “big donor” event but in a state where last year statewide candidates routinely received donations in the hundreds of thousands to million dollars the federal campaign limits actually seem quaint) were honest. Here are her actual words:
I didn’t agree with her and called her office repeatedly insisting she filibuster but I could see where she was coming from in regards to possibly preserving the filibuster for worse future nominees–not that anyone with any sense would trust the Rs in the Senate to keep a promise. Anyway, the bottom line is she did the right thing for the right reason–she listened to her constituents. And I challenge you to identify anyone else (aside from possibly Jason Kander who probably is slightly left of McCaskill) who could possibly win and hold down a senate seat for the Democrats in MO.
Finally, from where I see things barring a 2018 wave which is a possibility we should all be rooting for, I give her a less than 50% chance of getting re-elected. Todd Akins don’t come around every election cycle.

Man arrested for dressing up as ‘The Joker’ says he’s not dangerous
A Virginia man arrested for dressing up as his favorite comic book villain appeared in court on Monday proclaiming his innocence.
Jeremy Putman is out of jail, but for now, he is barred from wearing face paint that some in the community and the Winchester Police Department found to be rather disturbing.
“I’m a very big fan of Batman, and the Joker is like one of the big deals of all,” he said. “Everyone likes the Joker.”……….
However, the trouble is an adult wearing makeup like the Joker is apparently against Virginia law.
“Basically it is a crime in Virginia to cover your face or use anything that will hide your identity out in public unless it falls under certain situations — such as during Halloween or anybody under the age of 16 — it doesn’t apply to,” said Winchester Police Capt. Doug Watson.

She’s the poster child for timid pols and that’s why reliable Dem voters like me have a duty to “remind” her, constantly, that she has a fucking “D” after her name. And before anybody tells me “but she’s in Misery”, yeah, blah, blah, blah. She has no excuse. If she spent half as much time listening to her constituents and acting on their behalf as she does bashing half of those that got her elected and triangulating for money she wouldn’t be in such a precarious position.
Moreover, she sends me emails multiple times a day begging me for money. I’m a reliable door knocker and phone banker, so she’ll be wanting my services there, too. Perhaps, since she so desperately wants my vote, money and time, she should consider what I, and others like me, think is important. Or she could continue to court Trump voters and see how far that gets her.
Again, I get the political realities of living in this batshit, insane state. But time and time again she forgets who actually gets her elected whenever she opens her mouth and bashes us in one way or another.
Have a good time tomorrow. Ask her why she’s holding this thing where she’s holding it and why at such an ungodly time. Oh yeah, to minimize attendance.

With the caveat that this is not my area of expertise, I’d say the Winchester Police are on shaky ground here.
