From commentor Kay (not the front pager):
My DIL’s best friend is very ill. She is hoping to go home to Korea in 2 weeks so her mom can take care of her if she is well enough (she’s in the hospital now, just out of ICU). She has a 12 week old part-chihuahua puppy she was planning to take with her, but she just found out it would have to be in a long quarantine.
Does anyone know anyone who would be interested in this (really adorable) puppy? I can’t take him. I already have two very large and cantankerous cats and a very small and cantankerous dog. None of them will take kindly to a happy little puppy soaking up all the attention.
The little guy came to visit yesterday, and he really is a sweetie. He is trained to a pad indoors (100% pee, ~80% poop), but had not been outdoors until yesterday. My son spent quite a bit of time outside with him, trying to train him to go outside to “do his business.” He did finally get the idea, so it looks like he can be trained for walks.
He’s been trained to the “sit” command, but probably will need additional obedience training. He loved our dog, and followed him around outside (we had to keep him in his crate in the basement inside to keep him safe from the dog and cats). He’s a little shy, but a little kibble in the hand quickly makes you his best friend.
Seeing him in person, I have my doubts about his parentage. He is a lot longer than our chihuahua, and his legs are a LOT shorter. I’m guessing there is dachshund in there somewhere… Anyway, he (probably) won’t get too big, but he won’t be so tiny that his bones are fragile like chihuahuas and mini pincers.
He looks a little dour in these pictures, but he has the cutest grin when he’s outside!
His current name is Snowee (I assume because of his snowy white tux shirt), but he’s young enough to learn another name.
I’m in the DC/Metro area. If you know anyone in the surrounding area (within like half a day’s drive or so), I would be glad to bring the little guy around. He’s 12 weeks old, has his shots current up to 12 weeks, and is pad trained.
Chihuahuas and dachshunds, even more than most small dogs, are notorious for bonding to their person, with all their considerable hearts (cf: Lily Cole). This little guy is at a prime age to become someone’s soul-friend for the next fifteen to twenty years…
If you know someone who might be interested, leave a comment below, or contact me (annelaurie [dot] bj [at] gmail [dot] com) and I’ll forward your message to Kay.
Kay (not the front pager& from my phone)
He really is ready to become someone’s soul-friend. I hope he finds one! I’m at a car dealership right now “helping” my husband buy a truck but I will keep checking in.

Just forwarded this to my friends in the DC-Baltimore-Philly area……He is sooooo cute! I hope he finds a nice home……
Amir Khalid
Snowee sure looks like a sweetie.
Barbara
I would have to check. I currently have two dogs who are a combination of all the breeds mentioned here — mini pinscher/dachsund mix and chihuahua mixed with, I think, some kind of terrier (based on outdoor behavior). Neither is especially friendly to new dogs so it wouldn’t be ideal, but I would consider it. My current au pair is completely crazy about dogs and could help with the training and socializing.
ETA: The Animal Welfare League of Arlington has a sterling record of placing animals for adoption. We got our chihuahua there, and they almost always have waiting lists for good candidates for adoption. Maybe as a last resort.

Checking with my brother now…
rikyrah
He is so cute. I hope he finds a home.

Thinking on it. Hmmmm.
eclare
What a cutie! Those ears!
Kay (not the front pager)
@Barbara: Thanks! I’ll keep it in mind if we can’t find someone directly.
Kay (not the front pager)
@Greg in PDX: Thanks!
SiubhanDuinne
What a cutie! I hope he finds his forever home very soon.
ETA: Ideally, of course, that would be with a Juicer directly so they could provide updates and stories.
Kay (not the front pager)
@Jeffro: Fingers crossed!

My heart!! I hope someone here is able to take him so we get updates. What a little cutie.
Miss Bianca
Just forwarded this on to my niece in the DC area. Maybe she can help!
Kay (not the front pager)
@Miss Bianca: BJ jackels are the best!
Yutsano
I have only one thing to say here:
EARRRRRRZZZZ!!!
Kay (not the front pager)
@Yutsano: See, to me his ears look normal size. That’s because our Chihuahua can eavesdrop on Trump using his bat ears. ?

OMG, what a cutie! I’d jump on this and drive down to DC if it wouldn’t mean a divorce. Too bad he’s not in Florida. My John’s daughter just lost her 18 year old chihuahua to old age and would love another.
HeleninEire
Sent to my best friend/college roommate who is right outside DC. She loves dogs but mostly big dogs. Let’s see.
Yutsano
@geg6: We could set up a relay. We’ve done it before and there’s lots of Juicers in between DC and Florida that could pull it off.
satby
He’s adorable. I hope the poor girl gets home to her family.
I mentioned this when it first came up, do you know where he came from? If it was a rescue group, they really should be notified because they will likely want to take him back to rehome. It could even be in her adoption contract.
If it was a pet store we need to find this baby a new home!
Kay (not the front pager)
@satby: I honestly don’t know where he came from. I think he was a rescue but I’ve no idea from whom. I don’t know that there is an adoption contract, but it’s something I should have remembered to check on when you posted before. Thanks for the reminder!
She is in the hospital now and I suspect she couldn’t say where it is if there is one. My dil has been staying at her apartment to take care of Snowee, so she can check.
The Moar You Know
I am not a small dog guy but damn, that is a little cutie right there.
Sadly, my big dog is not going to allow any other dogs, big or small, to live in the house. My golden has become pretty possessive of me.

@geg6: Maybe John or his daughter would like a nice subsidized trip to DC? Teeny pup could easily fly in the cabin in one of those airline approved underseat carriers.
Lot of people fly from DC to Florida, maybe someone on BJ knows a dog-lover who travels that route.
geg6
@Yutsano:
Good idea. I’ll send these photos to her and see what she says.

Oh, man, I live outside Washington, and I’d be happy to take him, but I can’t. I married into a non-dog family, and we already have a brittany spaniel. Another dog would be more than my wife’s parents (they live with us) would be willing to take. I hope somebody takes this little dude, though. He looks like a good friend.

Hi. I’ve never commented before but I read every day. I sent this to a friend who is a vet tech and recently lost her dear companion dog. She’s been looking for a small dog and was very excited to inquire about Snowee. Her name is Natasha.
Silvery
Since moving to an upstairs condo in Denver, I’ve been waiting to find the right dog. I will take Snowee in a heartbeat if we can get him here. I can chip in some of his travel, not sure what the total would be though. I mostly lurk here and will send Anne Laurie an email with my info.
dlwchico
Dang, my sister is looking for a small pup like this for my 9 year old niece. Unfortunately they are in Oregon.
emrys
@Kay (not the front pager): see if she is microchipped. That could show where she came from.
MazeDancer
@Michele in PA:
Great! Did you have your friend email Anne Laurie? (annelaurie [dot] bj [at] gmail [dot] com)
ruemara
I kinda want that pupper. He’s adorbs & just the right size for my terrible two. But I can’t. Happy forever home to you, beautiful Snowee!
Kay (not the front pager)
@Michele in PA: Please have her contact Anne Laurie! If you click ‘menu’ in the upper right corner of the screen you can pick ‘front pagers’ (or something similar), then her name to get an email form. She already has my email address and will put us together.
I hope we can put them together!

I’m still “helping” my husband get a new truck (not very well; we drove off without his house key and garage door opener) so I know I’m missing some responses. Just wanted to thank everyone for suggestions, good wishes, forwards, etc.
Thank you!
Kifaru1
@Yutsano: We just pulled one off from FL to MD last weekend…there are some great organizers.
Michele in PA
@Kay (not the front pager):
She has the info. I hope this might work out. Thanks.
CliosFanBoy
northern Virginia by any chance? He gets along with other dogs???
John
I would take this little guy in one second flat. I’m about 100 miles north of NYC. In the extremely unlikely event that he hasn’t found a home, there’s a link to my blog here and my e-mail is in the about section.
TaMara (HFG)
@Silvery: If this one doesn’t work out, please check BigBones in Windsor (that’s where I got Bailey) and as strange as it seems – they specialize in rescuing big dogs and tiny dogs.. It’s adorable.
Here’s their website.
RedDirtGirl
I know you will anyway, but please update us when Snowee finds his forever home.
Percysowner
Yes, please let us know. It sounds like you have several great people who are interested. If you need transportation costs covered, let us know, I’d kick in to help get this sweetheart a home.
SWMBO
Sort of OT but when we adopted the three brothers at 10 weeks, they had to go in for their shots, etc. The vet encouraged us to bring them in at random (quiet) times so that we didn’t bring them in just for poking and prodding. I took them in occasionally for the first few months and they aren’t fearful of the vet’s office. They would go in and get a treat or brushing or some pleasant activities and now they are happy to go in. They cooperate and aren’t snappy at all. My mom’s dog, however, bit the vet 3 times last time he had to go in. In his defense, I told the vet that my brother’s ex gf may have let her son kick or throw him and he didn’t like being picked up by his ribs. The vet said after he told me that he’d bitten him 3 times that he had forgotten and picked him up wrong and Peetie never forgot or forgave him. He tries to bite him every time.

@CliosFanBoy: I’m in MD but can certainly make it to NoVa. If you are interested please contact Anne Laurie!
Kay (not the front pager)
@Kay (not the front pager): p.s. And yes, he really loved our dog (unfortunately the feeling was not mutual).
Kay (not the front pager)
@RedDirtGirl: Absolutely!
