Apparently Rob Corddry was supposed to come on after Nancy SMASH, but I guess Colbert could tell he had a real, real, real crowd-pleaser on his hands, and it would be insane to cut her short. Which was an excellent call, as well as the proper respect to give to the most powerful woman in American politics today, and arguably the most powerful lawfully-elected politician in America today.

This is exactly why I have been saying all along, trust Nancy Pelosi.
She knows what she’s doing, she knows how to do it and she knows why it has to be done.
We don’t have to like the person elected (as long as they are actually elected!) but we do have to respect the office, but we also should be respected for our views, because this is our country, all of ours, not his to fuck up like he’s done with everything else he’s ever done in his life.
I listened to that oath that I took when I enlisted, I’ve heard the one the president takes and I respected mine, he has no respect for any of this or any of us.

Thank the godess for Nancy Pelosi. She’s the president, the State Department and the Speaker of the House all in one fierce BOSS. She’s a sniper.
Everything she says isn’t meant for us, it’s meant for the mob boss in the WH. She’s driving him mad because he can’t fire her, and he only learned that the morning he released the memo of that call when he self impeached. Nancy is going to dog walk him every day because she knows she can and that it’s driving him mad.
The picture of her leaning over the table pointing her finger at him about all roads with him lead to Putin will go down in history.

I remember her saying that she would have retired had Hillary been President. Madame Speaker had to have been tired at the end of this day, if not exhausted. She couldn’t quite manage to respond to Colbert’s more playful leads, I suspect because she wanted to stay on message for the benefit of the viewers: Constitution Constitution Constitution. What a wonderful interview. I am so thankful we have both of them. Thanks for posting this!

She should get the highest honor we have for courageous service to country. She makes her work look obvious, she doesn’t complain (similar to other very intelligent people), and her face, eyes and voice are old and not male; so her intelligence is underestimated. She and HRC are tough and Trump is weak — what a world it is: him with so much power and them spending their time on earth on defeating him instead of other greatness they’re capable of.

Between this mess and the financial crisis, to say nothing of smaller battles through her career, I don’t think it will be an exaggeration to call her the most important and effective Speaker since at least Roosevelt centralized the government, if not earlier.

Being fanciful but she uses her hands a great deal while speaking and the right hand fingers splay in such a way (ring and pinky separated from first two) as to remind me of the Vulcan salute. Watched first segment twice. I like it. Nighty nights.

There will be buildings with her name on them in DC and SF. Many so called progressives who were demanding she step aside for AOC because Nancy didn’t know what she was doing, don’t know that she got the ACA passed through the House with a public option in it. This is my favorite quote of all time of hers.

I watched her talk, without notes, about the history of our government and constitution, citing key dates, staying on topic, making her points clearly and forcibly, and could not imagine Trump doing anything similar.

And then when we lost the Senate majority, she corralled her House caucus to pass the law as it had passed the Senate, so that we could have the ACA, instead of nothing. She’s responsible for the fact that I have reasonably-priced health insurance today (even without subsidy, b/c my pre-existing conditions — none of which has yielded crazy medical bills, but still) would have made me a prime candidate for being dog-walked by the insurance companies.

@the Conster: When traveling through Golden Gate Park in San Francisco I’m always glad to see “Nancy Pelosi Drive” on the way.
I was very glad to see Colbert give Pelosi a lot of time on his show (three segments). A lot of the time he just left her free to talk. I wonder if he watched footage from when Rachel Maddow has talked with Nancy in very effective interviews. Giving her some room led to hearing some very substantial statements from Pelosi, despite the conventional wisdom of her being not effective as a speaker.
I was also interested seeing Colbert and Pelosi talking together, due to years ago her warning her caucus members about being on his old “The Colbert Report” show. Nancy saw that Representatives were not likely to get through an interview or a “Better Know A District” segment without being made to look ridiculous in a way likely to stick to them. Nancy respected how much Colbert could do through his humor back then, to say nothing of now on a bigger platform.

This series of Pelosi with Colbert is well worth watching. She did very well, stayed on message and has a sense of humor! She gave me a sense of “gender pride” as well as being a Democrat and proud not to be a republican.
What a week we have lived through. It turns out that Trump has black mailed other country’s leaders – Lebanon for example. I’ve been saying to the spousal unit – Trump has most likely made more of these blackmail calls.
Pelosi has said that Trump accuses others of what he is doing or is guilty of.
Trump hates dogs – I don’t trust anyone who hates dogs (or cats).
All paths lead from Trump to Putin. Pelosi nailed that.

Nancy Smash! I love her. I remember the calls for her to resign and retire in 2010 by the numerous feckless Village folk after the Dems lost the house in the “Shellacking.”. I called her office to implore her NOT to listen to this BS. I was surprised to find myself choking up as I told her we needed her and that people calling for her head did not understand her value. Even I didn’t at that moment. She has WISDOM, and that is not an ordinary gift for our political set. Rock on, Madame Speaker.
