Yes! So glad she's going to for it. I look forward to finding out more about her. (I'm sure she's done something scandalous like danced the Macarena at a wedding) https://t.co/Tel7liEXLg

I have to be away from the news for most of the day. If MOFO-in-Chief declares a state of emergency, you guys are on your own. But know I’m in for any #resistance that is planned.
Also, in other news – Scout has been here a year (!!) and I’m a horrible person because I’ve not shared a photo of her with you in ages. Here she is sleeping on my arm compared to her sleeping in my friend’s arm her first day here.

When MLK said, “Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” This is what he meant.
Twenty-seven years ago, Colorado passed one of the ugliest anti-LGBT laws in the country (it was quickly overturned) and today, we swore in Jared Polis. Father, partner, Jewish and gay. Congratulations to all of us in Colorado, we are all better for it.
Colorado entered a new era of Democratic political dominance Tuesday as Jared Polis was sworn in as the state’s 43rd governor, promising to make the state’s booming economy fairer and health care more affordable.
“Our mission now is to make Colorado a place for all families to have a chance to thrive today, tomorrow and for generations to come,” he said after taking the oath of office. “I believe there is nothing that Colorado needs to do that Colorodans can’t get done. There is nothing wrong with Colorado that what is right with Colorado can’t fix.”
Polis’ longtime partner, Marlon Reis, and their two children stood with him for the ceremony on the west steps of the Colorado Capitol. He took the oath at precisely noon, his left hand on a siddur, a Jewish prayer book.
In his first speech as governor, Polis celebrated the diversity of the state and recognized the historic moment: Polis is the first openly gay governor ever elected to lead a state. He is also Colorado’s first Jewish governor.
“I am very conscious of the fact that there were many brave people over the years who made it possible for someone like me to be standing here giving a speech like this,” he said. “I am grateful and forever indebted to those who came before me — who struggled for equal rights, who stepped up for public service in all its forms, who made difficult sacrifices and worked faithfully toward a brighter future for our state, our nation and our world.”
Invocations were done by the Spiritual Leader of Ute Mountain Tribe, the Head Priest of a Sikh Temple, and a Baptist minister. Tonight, Cyndi Lauper will lead the musical guests at the Blue Sneaker Ball (in honor of Gov. Polis’ comfy blue sneakers).
Carry that with you as you face the orange circus peanut tonight…

I know we could use an entertainment break this Sunday, but I’m not feeling it. I’ll try and get a photo of one or two of the critters for later. We’re heading out for another walk around the lake, working on Scout’s socialization around other dogs and people. It’s not going well, but about this time in Bixby’s development…well let’s just say I was questioning my life choices…and he’s turned out just awesome, so I’m patient.
LA Times Virginia Heffernan takes on the attacks on Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Nancy Pelosi and Elizabeth Warren. Shocker they all have one thing in common: fear of women in power.
To a prominent right-wing troll looking to get a rise out of her, she earlier tweeted, “Like catcalling, I don’t owe a response to unsolicited requests from men with bad intentions. And also like catcalling, for some reason they feel entitled to one.”
Catcallers and anti-dancing scolds are two sides of the age-old misogyny coin. What they’re saying to her, as Ocasio-Cortez well knows, is that she’s either frigid and won’t respond to their catcalls or a “whore” because she dances too much.
Ocasio-Cortez’s responses make her detractors even more furious; no one likes to have his ugly misogyny brought to light. When Ocasio-Cortez, in white, stood to vote for Pelosi as House speaker, Republicans broke all precedent and booed her.
“Don’t hate me cause you ain’t me, fellas,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. By turning up the volume on the Republicans’ terrified sexism, as a digital native does best, she’s made quick work of her haters.

Is the girl nice? Does she use salty language? Does she dance? Does she refuse to smile and flirt when you hoot at her?
It’s worth a read. (h/t geg6)

Hey there Colorado peeps, one of our own is holding a house party for Patricia Anne Zornio. And if you’d like to attend, send me an email and I’ll pass it along to the host and you’ll get an evite.
About Zornio:
Patricia (Trish) Anne Zornio is a Colorado-based scientist and educator currently exploring for the U.S. Senate in Colorado, 2020. In a time when facts, reason, and everyday Americans seem to be forgotten, Trish has boldly stepped forward offering a new type of political candidate.
At 33 years old, the journey to a possible U.S. Senate candidacy began in 2015 when Trish was attending several U.S. Senate hearings in Washington, D.C. During the hearings, Trish came to realize the problems she saw first hand in healthcare, education, and technology existed in part because there weren’t the right experts at the table. She found no scientists on the science committee, and very few senators with practical experience in healthcare, education, or environmental work. There were also committees with only men making healthcare choices for women, and many senators expressed confusion by current technologies that her generation use daily. She also recognized the vast majority of senators were incredibly wealthy, with the youngest person being over 40 years old — a fact that leaves the largest generation in America without any representation.
With her background, Trish spent over two years studying law, economics, foreign policy, and more. She studied campaigns with a fine-toothed comb, and read every campaign finance law and interpretation through the Federal Elections Commission. At the local and state level, she asked for meetings from current legislators to assist them with policy research and development, helping quietly behind the scenes, all on the side of her work at the university. Then, in mid 2017 she set out on an ambitious statewide exploratory tour, determined to hit all 64-counties to show the people of Colorado she was not only serious, but that she truly wanted to know what they needed most.
Today, Trish has visited 63 out of 64 counties and met with thousands of Coloradans. She has given dozens of talks on the role of science in policy and is actively working on a book. Trish continues her legislative efforts at the Colorado State Capitol and mentors other scientists in the legislative process. She also still teaches several courses at the University of Colorado Denver, namely behavioral neuroscience and research methodology, while continuing to mentor students in their academic pursuits.

For the rest of you, open thread.
I just got back from walking the dogs around the lake. It was 60 degrees and balmy here today. I have no pet pictures to share at the moment. My bad.

Here’s the full video of the presser

I just called my congress-critter – red as he may be – and voiced my support for this. Believe it or not, he opposes the border wall, so my call may not have been wasted. Oh but for a few blocks and I would have Joe Neguse.
