Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

“Facilitate” is an active verb, not a weasel word.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

If you’re gonna whine, it’s time to resign!

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

People are complicated. Love is not.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

We will not go back.

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

I’ve got nothing, but it looks like it’s about time for one of these, so have at it.

Not sure what my plans are tonight. Somehow or another I pulled a muscle in my back and have been gimping around all day. Might just sit on an ice pack.

Finally, a djvu reader for iPad

This is not intended to start a pro-Apple/anti-Apple flame war. I am one of those people who likes both Apple and Google, which I realize is like supporting both the Israelis and the Palestinians, or liking both Art Garfunkel and Solomon Burke.

Anyway, like many people in math, and, I suspect other academic areas, I have hundreds of copies of books in djvu format, and it’s been my life dreams to carry a few of the classics with me at all times. Now, finally, there is a decent djvu reader for the iPad, called Stanza. Transferring the books is a little slow and it doesn’t support searches yet, but the formatting and readability are off the charts. For me, it’s game-changer for tablet computers.

I’m so old that what little I know about soccer I learned from reading Whistle! in translation, but I’m all in favor of anything that makes so many people happy. And by “makes people happy”, I mean “Shakira videos”, of course.
__
So… anybody got plans for the weekend that don’t involve futbol?

Take it away, Bad Horse’s Filly:

It’s been a dizzying week, so I almost forgot is was Thursday. I’m hoping for a much quieter Friday and relaxing weekend. Anyone have any exciting plans? I’ll be gardening, cycling and vegging out to DVDs and a good book. Pretty typical for me, not much excitement here. Some nice flavors tonight, a spicy sweet salmon with a tangy salsa served with rice. If you’re lucky enough to have a crop of fresh peas, well it gets even better.
__
On the board tonight:

__
1. Caramelized Salmon
__
2. Citrus Salsa
__
3. Rice
__
4. Buttered Peas
__
5. Pears

Recipes and shopping list at the link.

Fed and freshly furminated, his royal highness has decided on an early evening summer nap in front of the oscillating fan:

I’m pretty sure that right now he is plotting my death.

That is one adorable puppy.

Apparently every conference in football is about to explode, and I have nothing to add because I have no clue what is going on.

Also, I’m a little pissed that you all did not fully appreciate the effort that went into my “All About the Binyamins” title. I think you all are getting spoiled.
