The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

This year’s best First-of-April news article was scienterrific:

A would-be saboteur arrested today at the Large Hadron Collider in Switzerland made the bizarre claim that he was from the future. Eloi Cole, a strangely dressed young man, said that he had travelled back in time to prevent the LHC from destroying the world.
__
The LHC successfully collided particles at record force earlier this week, a milestone Mr Cole was attempting to disrupt by stopping supplies of Mountain Dew to the experiment’s vending machines. He also claimed responsibility for the infamous baguette sabotage in November last year.
__
Mr Cole was seized by Swiss police after CERN security guards spotted him rooting around in bins. He explained that he was looking for fuel for his ‘time machine power unit’, a device that resembled a kitchen blender.
__
Police said Mr Cole, who was wearing a bow tie and rather too much tweed for his age, would not reveal his country of origin. “Countries do not exist where I am from. The discovery of the Higgs boson led to limitless power, the elimination of poverty and Kit-Kats for everyone. It is a communist chocolate hellhole and I’m here to stop it ever happening.” …

It’s the Mountain Dew (state drink of WV) that convinces me Eloi must be a descendent of our honorable bloghost… that, and the deadpan affect.

Take it away, Bad Horse’s Filly:

I hadn’t made the poppy seed cake in a while and since I love poppy seed cake and raspberries, I thought I’d go ahead and recipe test it once again before tonight’s menu went up. I know, I know, the things I do for you guys. Decided to take most of it into work today and since there is none left, I’m going to declare this one a success.
__
On the board tonight:

__
1. Lemon-Nut Pork Chops
__
2. Baked Potatoes
__
3. Steamed Asparagus
__
4. Raspberry Poppy Seed Cake

Recipes and shopping list at the link, as always.

Gipsy Kings seems to be what I am listening to tonight. Every time I hear this song I think of that silly movie Bedazzled with Brendan Fraser, someone I like because he completely does not take himself seriously. He just rolls with it and has fun, and I’m cool with that.

Feels Like Summer Around Here

by John Cole|  April 1, 20107:15 pm| 157 Comments

It was up in the 70’s here today- got a bunch of work done, got the car washed, some more stuff unpacked, a couple loads of laundry finished, and am now sipping on a mojito.

I’m sunburnt as hell, too.

BTW- Got up and took Lily for a walk at like 6:30, then she “helped” me clean around the house for an hour or so, and when I took my shower, I guess she just decided it was time to go back to bed:

I can’t tell you how many times I have almost sat on her sitting down to put my shoes on, but she just loves to bury herself underneath the pillows and comforter.

I was going to send you all to another “NO ONE HERE IS RACIST” tea party apologia at Reason magazine (Michael C. Moynihan drew the short straw this time- I wish I could find his archives from the early 90’s, but they have all gone missing), but it just gets so tiresome I figured why bother. You all know what the drill is- someone will have overstated the racism somewhere or made an over the top statement, and thus that means, to the glibertarian mind, that there is no racism at all at the tea parties. Besides, as DougJ has proven, all the signs are a forgery. Those were probably liberals carrying all the monkey signs and emailing Obama photoshopped as a witch doctor.

Again, this may be an artifact of my political movement, but I do not remember libertarians being such complete shitheads under Bush.

If you can’t trust Science, whom can you trust?

I installed a picture of the blue screen of death as the screensaver on a coworker’s Mac. Yeah, I know, it’s old. Whatever. It’s still funny. Describe your plans for April 1st in the comments.

***Update***

Darn you, Cole. Consider this my entry in the post below.

We’ll use this thread as the dumping point for clever April Fools gags. I’ll start:

World of Warcraft offers a new “neural interface” .

Google renames itself “Topeka.”
