Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

A norm that restrains only one side really is not a norm – it is a trap.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

We will not go back.

Also, are you sure you want people to rate your comments?

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

I like political parties that aren’t owned by foreign adversaries.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

In my day, never was longer.

You cannot shame the shameless.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

When I was faster i was always behind.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

This blog will pay for itself.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

I would try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

John Rogers Is a Genius

More ammunition for the defense of the crazification factor:

Some 27 percent of Israelis believe that U.S. President Barack Obama is anti-Semitic, according to a Haaretz-Dialog poll conducted this week.

Anpther 56 percent questions said they don’t believe politicians who call Obama anti-Semitic or hostile to Israel, or who say he is “striving to topple Netanyahu.”

On the whole, Obama’s popularity may be declining in American public opinion, but a sweeping majority of Israelis think his treatment of this country is friendly and fair.

Just the other day, 27% of Hiram Monseratte’s district decided that despite the fact he was convicted of slashing his significant other, he deserved their vote.

I’m telling you- pay attention to 27%. It is uncanny how often it shows up.

Deep Thought For The Night

Yet another wouldn’t it be nice if progressive groups did that… post. I clicked through a black-background ‘stop health care arrogance’ ad today, inviting me to give Jason Altmeyer my mind (not my Rep, but close), to see what happened. On the other side is a simple page with one big ad and fields for your address and phone number. Hit ‘ok’, and some astroturf firm’s server will ring your phone and automatically connect your Rep’s office on the other end. Swank!

No wonder wingnuts are absolutely kicking our ass on the phones. A staffer for a key Senator wrote today to tell me that hysterical in-state teabaggers outnumbered calls in support by over a hundred to one.

If you want to keep this fight even, get on the phone tomorrow. Call your Senators as well.

***Update***

For what it’s worth the AFSCME ads in our left sidebar apparently use the same tech. Click those instead! The mailing list you get on won’t be nearly as unsavory.

Open Thread: Thursday Night Menu

Take it away, Bad Horse’s Filly:

The weather is nice, the days are longer, so something simple and fresh appealed to me. I was in the store this last weekend and saw that once again they were carrying flavored tortillas: sun dried tomato basil; jalapeno cheddar; garlic herb; and spinach. These are extra large and I really like the flavors. So all of that is what inspired me to put together this menu.

On the board tonight:
__
Santa Fe Wraps
Salad w/Creamy Cucumber Dressing
Grapes

Recipes and shopping list over at What’s For Dinner Solutions.

(P.S. from Anne Laurie: I am an inattentive cook, and tonight’s menu reminds me that a nice Japanese rice cooker is not strictly “essential”, but owning one has improved my success rate considerably. You may now point and jeer.)

This was left wandering around another thread:

I thought I had told you people to not let your kids wander around in open threads. The language in those is horrible, so someone please claim this cupcake eating MACHINE.
