Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Giving up is unforgivable.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

Bark louder, little dog.

“But what about the lurkers?”

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Let there be snark.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

The low info voters probably won’t even notice or remember by their next lap around the goldfish bowl.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

He really is that stupid.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Hell hath no fury like a farmer bankrupted.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Good News: Finding Fossils and Climate Activism

by TaMara|  February 9, 202310:36 am| 36 Comments

This post is in: Climate Change Solutions, Make The World A Better Place, Nature & Respite, Open Threads

Keeping with my vow to limit my political junky tendencies, I find myself reading more and more non-political stories these days, watching more helpful youtube videos and really diving into Climate Change Solutions these days. I’m going to try and post more on Climate Solutions as time permits. Meanwhile, here are a couple of stories …

Obama Sucks so Hard, Soldiers are Killing Themselves?

by Elon James White|  May 1, 20136:53 pm| 43 Comments

This post is in: This Week In Blackness

In 2012 suicide surpassed combat deaths in the U.S. military. While there have been multiple studies done on this tragic fact one man in a silly hat has done what those liberal scientist and mental health professionals are afraid to tell you. But I’ll tell you why more and more warrior heroes of the military …

Your Right To Be Wrong As Hell

King Reasonoid Matt Welch reminds us that ESPN’s Chris Broussard apparently has every right to be a homophobic fundamentalist bigot about NBA player Jason Collins coming out because AMERICA. Broussard is predictably getting beaten to a rhetoric pulp on Twitter. And while I think today is a wonderful, watershed day for people (especially the artist …

Telling It Like It Is

by John Cole|  September 29, 20058:25 am| 18 Comments

This post is in: Domestic Politics

No wonder so many Democrats get mad at Bob Somerby- he is honest: Broussard’s story gained massive attention—but his chronology never seemed to make sense, and it now seems that it was just wrong. The woman in question drowned early in the New Orleans flood, not on Day Five, as Broussard had said. For all …

A Backlash for Correcting the Record?

by John Cole|  September 26, 200511:57 am| 283 Comments

This post is in: Domestic Politics

Apparently Russert corrected the record yesterday regarding Broussard’s falsehoods (and I don’t mean to say they were intentional, but they were false, nonetheless) regarding his dramatic appearance on Meet the Press several weeks ago, and that has all sorts of people in a snit. My good friend John Amato at Crooks and Liars writes: Tim …

Another Katrina Myth Permanently De-Bunked

This post is in: Domestic Politics

Remember this Meet The Press moment: BROUSSARD: … The guy who runs this building I’m in, emergency management, he’s responsible for everything. His mother was trapped in St. Bernard nursing home and every day she called him and said, “Are you coming, son? Is somebody coming?” And he said, “Yeah, Mama, somebody’s coming to get …

Calm Down And Let’s Get This Right

by John Cole|  September 6, 20058:21 pm| 329 Comments

This post is in: Domestic Politics

I understand a great number of people on both sides of the political spectrum think FEMA has not reacted fast enough, but there is just a large degree of stuff out there that is turning out to be inacccurate, an incomplete portrayal of events, or, in some cases, just plain nonsense. Here are some examples: …
