A trilogy for the new year:
At a former colleague's suggestion I have an e-mail folder just called "Happy" where I file e-mails in which someone says something kind or says thank you or says something else that makes me happy to read. If you don't have one, give yourself the gift of a Happy folder in 2019.

A complementary goal: make an effort this year to send emails that will end up in someone else's Happy Folder https://t.co/ICvKhLakWr

It is a very strange feeling to devote your life's work to publishing thoroughly researched and carefully crafted books only to have a two-sentence Tweet on e-mail filing be what is probably the most widely read piece you've ever produced.

I’ve played this lots since 11/16. Scot/Armenian/Jew, son of a diplomat, raised in Egypt/Mexico, rooted in Woody Guthrie & rockabilly, singing about people from everywhere on Earth living together in humble neighborhoods. No greater repudiation of Trumpism https://t.co/vcRLQi47s4
