Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Text STOP to opt out of updates on war plans.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Stamping your little feets and demanding that they see how important you are? Not working anymore.

“Facilitate” is an active verb, not a weasel word.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

The lights are all blinking red.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

White supremacy is terrorism.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

How We Roll in the US of A

by John Cole|  December 10, 200910:18 am| 31 Comments

Bart Stupak and Sarah Palin get to take to the NY Times and the Washington Post to lie through their teeth, while those trying to correct the record are left struggling to get the word out on blogs and any old way they can.

Here is Rep. Lois Capps with a point by point evisceration of Stupak’s lies.

Don’t Know Much About… Anything

by John Cole|  December 9, 200911:20 pm| 24 Comments

This post is in: Republican Stupidity

This Patrick Ruffini tweet made me laugh out loud:

hahahahaha

The New Yorker:

O’Neill watched all this with anguish. Shortly before he was fired, he confronted Cheney about the Administration’s latest proposal to cut taxes by another six hundred and seventy-four billion dollars over ten years, pointing out that the country was “moving toward a fiscal crisis.” The Vice-President stopped him. “Reagan proved deficits don’t matter,” he said. “We won the midterms. This is our due.” In fact, Reagan didn’t prove anything of the kind. Early in his first term, Congress was forced to adopt emergency tax increases and spending cuts to restrain the ballooning budget shortfall. Despite this remedial action, it wasn’t until the early nineties, when George Bush Senior and Bill Clinton raised taxes, that the nation’s finances were put in proper order, opening the way to the longest economic expansion on record.

And because I am +4, I’m not even going to go into the role that Gramm, of Gramm/Rudman/Hollings, played in the repeal of Glass-Steagal and the meltdown of last year that has led the way in getting us to where we are now.

But yeah. Republicans are all fiscal conservatives now.

A Flute With No Holes Is Not a Flute

A doughnut with no holes is a danish:

Senate Democrats said on Wednesday that they were not sure exactly what was in a deal that the majority leader said would surmount a disagreement over a proposed government-run health plan. But they voiced guarded optimism that it would ultimately help them pass major health care legislation.

Rank-and-file Democrats said the preliminary agreement — reached among a group of 10 senators, 5 liberals and 5 centrists — suggested that they would be able to resolve some seemingly intractable differences over the public plan, insurance coverage for abortions and other disputes, including how to pay for the nearly $1 trillion bill.

We shall see…

I don’t recall the last time I was in a foul mood from basically the time I woke up until the time I went to bed, but today was one. The weather is really irritating me. The temperature jumps twenty degrees in one hour, it goes from rain crashing against my window to sunny blue skies to purple bruised clouds with whipping wind. I’m all discombobulated.

Think I’m going to turn off the tv, eat dinner, and play Bioshock until I fall asleep.
