Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

I really should read my own blog.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Via Florida Today:

Zimmerman’s lawyer to speak at Viera event
O’Mara’s speech, raffle of pistol and Bible expected to draw big crowd

George Zimmerman’s defense attorney will be the featured speaker at a Gun Rights Preservation Forum next month in Viera.

The Nov. 4 event, organized by the Republican Liberty Caucus of Central East Florida, also will include a raffle in which the prize is a Kel-Tec 9 mm semiautomatic pistol and a Bible.

Bob White, chairman of the Republican Liberty Caucus and evidently far less truthful and courageous than the species of ground-dwelling bird his name recalls, claims it’s just a coincidence that Zimmerman’s lawyer is an event speaker and that one of the raffle prizes is the same type of gun Zimmerman used to kill unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin.

That’s bullshit, and White is a liar and a sorry excuse for a human being. It would be comforting to think that such an event is just a gathering of bloodthirsty, fringe-dwelling loons who swap homemade bullet recipes and sell each other seed vaults on an obscure website.

But the article notes that event participants include the county sheriff and the newspaper’s public interest editor. This gives it an imprimatur of respectability it doesn’t deserve. Do they show up at Klan rallies too and pretend those events are just a benign component of a diverse political mosaic? Disgusting.

    Sick.

What, no t-shirts of a raccoon with his head in a noose, hanging from a tree limb?
And I bet you can imagine what would be written underneath it, can’t you?

    I bet THAT would be a big-seller!!!

The bible probably comes with some kind of safety lock feature, to prevent its being used by accident.

Weird. A mistermix post appeared above this one. At first it had no title. I refreshed the page and the title appeared. I wrote a comment, posted it, and…..nothing. Got served a completely blank page, total white space. Now the post is gone – I guess he didn’t want to step on Betty.

During the event, O’Mara will receive the Republican Liberty Caucus of Central East Florida’s annual Jefferson Cup Award. White said the award is given to someone who speaks “truth to power.” He said O’Mara earned it by standing up against the prosecution of the case against Zimmerman and standing up to the media coverage of the case.

He convicted a 17 year old who wasn’t there and wasn’t represented.

It wouldn’t surprise me a bit. If the editor of the newspaper is under one of the hoods, who’s going to report that the sheriff is under another?

Where’s Mr. Zimmerman these days? Has anyone attacked him lately? I’m keeping a list. Let’s see, so far his GF, a law enforcement person in a bar, a 17 year old he was harassing and following and his elderly father in law. It’s so weird how this really diverse group of people keep attacking him in all sorts of situations, over a course of years.

George Zimmerman says he went into the home, locked the front door but was attacked by his father-in-law who “charged him” in the garage.

Another unprovoked attack! This time, by an IPad wielding senior citizen!

I initially read that as “a K-Tel 9mm semiautomatic pistol.”

Hey, it couldn’t be any stupider than the reality.

I can see why the sheriff might show up – bunch of loonies carrying guns sounds like trouble looking for a staging point. Anybody else who goes should be shunned for life.

I just found out from my daughter that, oddly enough, my ex- a retired law enforcement officer – who, in his old age had become a Limbaugh listener, Fox News fan, etc. has turned rabidly against the NRA in which he has resigned his life membership and is actively campaigning against our local sheriff, who has made remarks about not enforcing the safe act, on the grounds that law enforcement does not make or amend the law. I believe that having bought the Fox News line about the President & all the horrible things the Kenyan socialist would do to the country the fact that none of them materialized has eaten into their credibility a bit for him and he has started thinking again. Has anyone else seen this effect among their connections?

He may also be influenced by the fact that he is only alive today because he had a court appearance and the officer who went to serve the (relatively minor) warrant he would have been serving was killed by a lunatic firing his gun through the door at the officers attempting to serve the warrant.

Republican Liberty Caucus? Aren’t they supposed to be the “libertarian” faction of the Republican Party? Maybe I’m confusing them with some other group, but this is what I remember. So an event like this, right down to the mendacity, is perfectly in keeping with their self-proclaimed philosophy.

I posted that last night on the recipe thread, more appropriate here.

    @Kay:

He convicted a 17 year old who wasn’t there and wasn’t represented.

When I was a kid, I’d occasionally come across an essay by a public defender or a mob lawyer who would say that he (always a guy) was defending bad guys in part to preserve the integrity of the legal system, to help ensure that the system worked for everyone. The arguments weren’t always convincing, but at least they seemed sincere, and the writers acknowledged that they were sometimes walking a fine line with respect to justice in the end.

But O’Mara? “Sure, I’ll accept an award for getting a killer off.”

    @RSA:

“Sure, I’ll accept an award for getting a killer off.”

I’m fine with that. The idea is the prosecution has to make their case. What bothered me here was, the defense case revolved around proving the 17 year old attacked George Zimmerman, unprovoked and the 17 year old wasn’t there, and no one seemed particularly interested in defending him. Zimmerman’s trial turned into the trial of Martin. Martin’s dead. He wasn’t there to defend himself.

O’Mara has completely lost any semblance of human morals he previously pretended to have. First time he took the case, he pretended to care and to feel sorrow and pain for the loss of an innocent 17-year old. In his first interview he shed crocodile tears for the suffering and pain of the slain young man’s parents. Now he’s taking awards for defending a killer and for convicting a dead 17 year old. I hope there’s such thing as karma.

“There are national associations of colored people! Why can’t there be national associations of white people? YER a RACIST! Mebbe even the REAL racist!”

But the article notes that event participants include the county sheriff and the newspaper’s public interest editor. This gives it an imprimatur of respectability it doesn’t deserve.

Sadly, the Ku Klux Klan chapters you just mentioned often had plenty of upstanding members of Polite Society – that’s what made them so powerful. The sheriff and editor are following a long and distinguished tradition if they’re legitimizing RWNJ gun nuts.

Also, I think his attending this rally and spiking the football on a case that revolved around the death of a 17 year old boy is just absolutely disgusting personal behavior. He’s a real class act, that “speak truth to power” advocate. I hope they let him hold their confederate flag for autographed pictures after this repulsive grifter get-together.

Since California has no “stand your ground” law, it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

A Mendocino County deputy district attorney shot and wounded another man on a downtown Sacramento street following an argument early Thursday morning, according to police.

Deputy District Attorney Damon Gardner and a colleague were walking near the intersection of 15th and L streets at the northeast corner of Capitol Park just after midnight when they passed two men, Sacramento police spokesman Doug Morse said. Words were exchanged, and a physical confrontation began.

The fight didn’t go well for Gardner and “he ended up on the ground,” said Mike Geniella, a spokesman with the Mendocino County District Attorney’s Office.

Gardner then allegedly pulled a gun and shot one of the men in the upper body. “He contends it was self-defense,” Geniella said.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was treated at a local hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Gardner likely did not know the man he shot, Geniella and Morse said. Neither said what started the argument between the two groups.

Before the shooting, Gardner had been drinking at a bar, Geniella said. Gardner has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, Geniella said, but that may not help his case if it is determined Gardner fired after consuming alcohol.

Man, aren’t there any good old-fashioned bible-thumpers who would be bothered by the weird juxtaposition of firearms and Jesus? I guess we need a new bumpersticker: What would Jesus carry?
