After the unpleasantness of the last post, here’s a pig-related Canadian sentiment that I think all the other white meat eaters among us can agree on. Open thread.

The Dark Canuck
Reader J wants me to post something about Jian Ghomeshi, so here goes. He’s a former member of Moxy Früvous who now has a career as a music producer and radio host, most recently hosting Q on CBC Radio. Imagine a male, Iranian Terry Gross and you’ve about got him pegged. Except, unlike Terry Gross, he admits to having a taste for rough sex or BDSM. Eight women who have been with him [warning:autoplay video] call his interests sexual assault, and three of them have filed charges against him today. He has also apparently had consensual BDSM relationships, and he’s trying to play all of these assault allegations off as consensual. He’s also filed a $55 million lawsuit against the CBC after he was fired. In other words, atypically for a Canadian, he’s not “soory”.
Ghomeshi’s attempt to cast himself as a victim of kink phobia by CBC’s management is perhaps the only interesting part of this tale. Otherwise, it’s an all-too-common story of a creep who’s able to get away with some pretty rotten behavior because of his minor celebrity.
DO NOT WANT
I’m betting this is DougJ’s favorite radio show:

Scariest Halloween outfits I’ve seen this year.
Chores, Chili & College Football Preview
Temperatures have plunged into the 60s here in Central Florida, and it’s also extraordinarily windy. It’s a good day to make chili and catch up on chores. The mister has undertaken the chili mission and is off purchasing the ingredients.
I’m procrastinating because I can no longer in good conscience avoid two odious items on my to-do list: 1) cleaning out the office / spare room where we’ve stashed odd items since embarking on our slow-mo home renovation project nearly two years ago, and 2) washing the windows inside and out.
It must be done. We’ll have guests over the holidays, so it has to be possible for people to enter the spare room, plus I will need it as an office when the kiddo is out of school on holidays and making too much noise for me to work at the dining room table, as is my custom. It would also be nice to be able to view the outdoors without a filter of grime.
Oh, there’s football on too, later. FSM willing, this will be the last time valued commenter Raven will get to enjoy watching Georgia alum Coach Will Muschamp lead the Gators to another loss to the Dawgs in Jacksonville. A miracle could occur, of course. But I have a feeling I’ll enjoy cleaning out the spare room and washing the windows more than I’ll enjoy the game.
Auburn and Old Miss should be a good game after the Florida-Georgia debacle ends. Also looking forward to Tennessee vs. South Carolina – Go ‘Cocks! Any other games of note you’re looking forward to, or predictions?
What else are y’all up to this Saturday?

I scored eight out of eight in Gail Collin’s Election Day pop quiz, which may explain why I haven’t been feeling very positive about politics recently.* This article helped, though:
MILWAUKEE — “The president was the only one who could get me out here,” said Gloria Malone, a 50-year old home health care worker. “Before that, I was like: The hell with Mary Burke!”
Malone was pressed against more than 3300 people who’d come to Milwaukee’s North Division High School to see Barack Obama make one of his few 2014 campaign trail stops. Like most of the crowd, she was African-American, and had backed the president every time he appeared on the ballot. She was well aware that less-unpopular surrogates, like First Lady Michelle Obama, had trekked to the state even though gubernatorial candidate Burke has avoided nationalizing her race.
Then the presidential visit was announced, and Malone cast an early vote for Burke against Republican Governor Scott Walker, who Burke has fought to a tie in the polls.
“It’s important to see her up there with our president,” said Malone. “We’re running Walker down. The Republicans lost this election when they tried to stop black people from voting.”…
*To quote Ralph Bakshi’s Aragon: “Then we must do without hope. There is always vengeance.”

Apart from making it through next Tuesday without committing a felony, what’s on the agenda for the weekend?
ATTN: Wingnuts! Retreat to Benghazi Talking Points
The Marine who wandered into Mexico with a trunkload of guns is to be released:
A Mexican federal district judge in Tijuana on Friday ordered the immediate release of a U.S. Marine veteran behind bars in Baja California on federal weapons charges.
Andrew Tahmooressi was on trial for crossing the border with ammunition and three loaded weapons on March 31. The Mexican Attorney General’s Office agreed to cease its prosecution of Tahmooressi and allow him to return to the United States.
The agreement brings to a close a high-profile case that has resounded far beyond the border. In the United States, it has prompted calls for his release from politicians, veterans groups, conservative talk show hosts. But for months there had been an impasse, as Mexican federal prosecutors insisted that the case be resolved through the courts — not through diplomatic or political pressure.
I’m predicting that all the wingnuts spamming my FB feed will either A.) Ignore this or B.) Find a way to blame Obama for it taking so long.

Friday Recipe Exchange: Braised Italian Chicken

From our Food Goddess, TaMara:
I’m travelling this weekend, but didn’t want to leave you without a recipe exchange two weeks in a row. This is a repeat from several years ago (have we really been doing it that long?). My life is pulling me in twelve different directions right now and only a few do I have control over. That probably means between now and the big holidays, we’ll have more repeats. Once I move into my new house, I’ll be back into the cooking groove…and in a better kitchen that doesn’t make feel all stabby and want to throw things.
I have a couple of recipes that I made recently that I’ll try and put together for next week. But no promises, if next week unfolds anything like this week.
No Bixby update this week, but a few pictures of how much he’s grown, here. There is no hiding his Great Dane lineage now. BTW, in case you didn’t know it, Mrs. J works at the local shelter and JeffreyW always have lots of photos of the residents. This is a particularly cute bunch.
On to the recipes:
Chicken is our default theme tonight.
First up, Quick and Easy Barbecue Chicken, recipe here.
Grilled Lime Chicken, and additional marinade ideas, here.
JefferyW is fond of Chicken Marsala, photos and recipe here.
I’ll be out trick or treating with eight year olds tonight. What are you scaring up for the weekend? Cooking up anything good in your cauldron?
Tonight’s featured recipe:
