Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

The lights are all blinking red.

“But what about the lurkers?”

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

When tyranny becomes law, rebellion becomes duty. ~Thomas Jefferson

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

No one could have predicted…

Usually wrong but never in doubt

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Many life forms that would benefit from greater intelligence, sadly, do not have it.

The reference, I believe, would be to a certain José Pedro Balmaceda Pascal. (Although the man seems to be more of a dog person!)

To mark 13 years of the Affordable Care Act, Barack and I spoke to a few folks who know first-hand the sense of dignity that comes with health coverage.

They thought they were going to be talking to two ACA policy experts who worked at the White House. Turns out, they were! pic.twitter.com/BgA1b61IDZ

These people, who were scammed out of thousands of dollars in a payday loan scheme, called me up to ask if the check was real and they could cash it. I got to tell them yes, yes it is. I even had a check cashing company call. It was a good day.

I saw an inspiring tweet. A 100 year old woman denouncing book bans at a school district meeting in VA.

Seeing that picture of BHO makes me miss him so much! What an incredible accomplishment. He has saved so many lives.

I went to yoga tonight, and it was gloriously hot and sweaty and stretchy and disgusting. I have always been tighter on my right side than on my left. But I was able to do right-leg splits for the first time since I was about 17. Woohoo!

Tikka had a bad day today–and may have some troubles ahead (if the antibiotics don’t solve the problem). That last image…we both feel seen!

For Seattle area Jackals there’s a meet-up on April 4th at 6:00PM for Satby’s visit.

It’s at the home of good friends on the east side of Capitol Hill across from the entrance to Meany Middle School.  I’m bringing Dim Sum and Thai food.

“A Pennsylvania woman linked to a far-right extremist movement was sentenced on Thursday to three years in prison for storming the U.S. Capitol, where she invaded then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office with other rioters,” the AP reports.

“Maybe don’t do crimes” said a billion wingnuts when pondering our immense prison population.

Thanks to all for the good wishes for my big boi.

The anaesthesia is wearing off, and his purr subroutine has rebooted after a scary morning.  Now all we need is to have him continue his attempt to instruct Champ on the urgency of a clean face and paws.

Here’s hoping orneriness is the best tonic!

Well of course a real artist wouldn’t. A real artist would do it on purpose.

I finished chapters 2 and 3 in my new WIP, the YA eldritch comedy Younger Things.  So far the heroine has gotten to mutate a bunch of degenerate sea beasts into glitter-covered Pretty Sea Horses with hugs, and learned that alas, it’s not going to be quite that easy with every monster.  Next, she must corrupt her first Outer God with her extradimensional sanity and love.

Starring Curiosity Little as Herself.  Co-starring Dagon as Nerd Princess Kelp Goggles, and Cthulhu as the terrible Princess Tides.

Yes, as in when you sweat big enough puddles to slip in. Very gross and awesome.

Inspiring indeed! But there is no Martin County, VA – I think she is in Florida.
