I don’t have a Soundcloud but here’s our story https://t.co/p1Yb8xgjXd

… At first I thought I was just hearing things? Then I thought it might have been part of a trailing sentence like “Thank you Tim… Apple is doing great.” But no, he stops pretty abruptly after saying Apple, and it really sounds like he thinks that’s the last name.
I went through the trouble of transcribing what the president said, just to be sure this is all really happening:
We’re going to be opening up the labor forces because we have to. We have so many companies coming in,” Trump says. “People like Tim — you’re expanding all over and doing things that I really wanted you to do right from the beginning. I used to say, ‘Tim, you gotta start doing it here,’ and you really have you’ve really put a big investment in our country. We really appreciate it very much, Tim Apple.
It’s hard to say why this happened. Did he forget Cook’s name? Does he only associate people with the companies that they run? Was it on purpose, as some kind of psychological domination game? Literally anything seems possible at this point.

Trick question! As long as he’s giving them what they want, the Repubs will never turn on their “King”…
Nothing to see here just Trump passing along notes to cabinet secretaries from a dentist and Mar-a-Lago member who calls him "King." pic.twitter.com/APYmbTWeFF

Good thing he didn’t say Tim PC or Apple fans would have stormed the White House.

To answer the question in the headline: they’ll stop defending it when they calculate that the price they pay for defending it exceeds the price they’d pay for abandoning it. Not, note, when the price for defending it actually gets worse than the price for abandoning it.
Hanging’s too good for them. Well, let me rephrase that: hanging with rope is too good for them.

I’m late with this (as always) but I just wanted to chime in with a few words of support for Adam—I too am not sorry Alex Trebec bought the big letter “C.”
He’s a republican, and while I take no joy in his suffering every time he voted he was voting to harm the planet, the poors, and POC. I refuse to pretend the GOP’s mobility scooter-assisted march towards fascism won’t ultimately result in internment camps for trans folk and the undocumented.
During the next election there’ll be one less person voting for baby cages, fracking, and forced birth. I’ll save my sorrow for the oldsters who can’t afford insulin and kids who die in migrant detention.
At least Trebek has comprehensive health insurance.

Who knows if he remembered the name, forgot the name or never knew the name. Anyone willing to do business with trump and/or support him in any way deserves all that trump has to give.

Got links to three unrelated stories which might be of some interest in the bullpen awaiting morning thread, so naturally it is AWOL.

Another Scott
@David Evans: That red “The President Has Seen” stamp could be taken as a little helper for him too. My MIL used to tear the top of a newspaper page after she read it, as a reminder so that she wouldn’t read it again. She eventually was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.
If I were Mueller, I would be looking very carefully for that red stamp as I pulled evidence together. It’s going to be hard for Donnie to claim he “never saw it” with such markings…
Cheers,
Scott.

@Another Scott: Good catch, I missed that the first time.

I saw some clips of Trump’s unhinged CPAC rant and was reminded of a Charlton Heston speech to the NRA years ago. I thought then that CH sounded like he was in the early stages of dementia – and it was revealed not too much later that he was. So far I haven’t put much credence in assertions that DJT is mentally impaired but I am beginning to change my mind.

@David Evans:
It most definitely is. I am going through this with my mother, who is almost 96. Went through it with my uncle, who died at 97 a few years ago. My mother is now at the stage where she forgets names frequently. This can be the name of a person, a place, an event or an object. She becomes frustrated because she is drawing a blank and knows it. These days, when relating a conversation with another person, she will frequently say “something, something something” when she can’t remember what the other person said. Trump is where she was about two or three years ago. Recall the occasions where he forgot to sign executive orders and simply wandered off. That’s not a short attention span, that’s a symptom of dementia.

Yes, kinda sort of. I’m glad to see women in orbit getting their fair share of time to fly in orbit!
But: Who ever labeled Astronauts or Cosmonauts leaving a space vehicle to fly free in orbit at 17,000 mph in space a spaceWALK is a total dumbass PR flack. They don’t walk, they FLY in Orbit~!!~

@feebog:
Yes, this is true, forgetting words or names can be a symptom of one flavor of dementia or another. Yet I’ve had trouble with words and names my whole life in conversation with people. Names especially… authors of favorite books, performers, composers, even friends and relatives.
Yet, so far, I’m coping with complex modern life fairly well. My dad also had a large vocabulary, which he used daily in writing columns and editorials – yet sometimes came to a full stop in conversation while searching for the perfect word to use in his sentence. In his case, maybe too large a vocabulary, combined with not the best indexing? I’ve always had trouble with names…
