Willard “Mitt” Romney, on the road, hustlin’ the dolla-dolla! First, harvesting on his Olympics cred, per Matt Visier at the Boston Globe:
On the eve of the Olympic Games, Mitt Romney is planning two separate fundraising events in central London hosted by a variety of banking industry officials, according to copies of the invitations obtained by the Globe.
The events involve a reception – at a cost of $2,500 per person – and a high-dollar “private dinner with Governor Mitt Romney” that will cost from $25,000 to $75,000 per person. Both events will be held at a location in “central London” that has not yet been named…
London is one of the world banking hubs, with plenty of Americans who are involved in the securities and investment industries that Romney has targeted. This is Romney’s second trip to London to raise money for his presidential campaign…
Only American citizens or US green card holders are allowed to contribute to a presidential campaign, and Romney’s fundraising invitations note that attendees “must provide copy of US passport.”
And you worry about handing personal details to small-time scammers via a hacked website. Presumbly Frenchy-looking berets will not be distributed as table favors, although if there are keepsakes, they’ll probably also have been made in China.
Afterwards, it’s on to Jerusalem! Via “Learned Mother of Zion” at LGF:
“Presumed Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney will host a fundraising event in Jerusalem at $60,000 or more per plate on July 29, The Jerusalem Post learned on Wednesday.
Delegates are set to fly in from the US for the event, which a Republican source said would be ‘a small meeting, but a big fundraiser.’…
The Republican candidate will stay in Jerusalem for two days, Israeli Republican political consultant Jonny Daniels told The Jerusalem Post, during which Romney will meet with President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, opposition leader Shelly Yechimovich (Labor) and senior Palestinian officials….”

July 29 is the fast day of Tisha B’Av, on which Jews mourn the destruction of the Temples of Jerusalem, the Expulsion from Spain, the Holocaust and other tragic events in Jewish history. It is the second most significant fast day, after Yom Kippur.
Well, as long as Eric Fehrnstrom manages to avoid any “From the Mormon perspective, you guys are the gentiles” gaffes, I’m sure it’ll turn out well enough. I mean, even the Romney campaign wouldn’t suggest a lunch meeting with those ‘senior Palestinian officials’ during Ramadan, right, guys?
What’s really surprising me, though, is that I can’t find any current hot breaking details from the Politico papparazzi about tomorrow’s Big Love Party:
Embracing perhaps the most polarizing figure in the Bush administration, Mitt Romney will hold a fund-raiser at the Jackson Hole, Wyo. home of former Vice President Dick Cheney this summer.
The Romney campaign confirmed Monday that it sent a save-the-date e-mail to supporters advertising the “memorable event” in a “beautiful summer destination” on July 12. …
Have the optics changed, for Pete’s sake, since the Globe broke that story back in May?
