I am trying to upgrade my pathetic techskillz. This is Demon Kishkan, who is the perfect image of a Maine Coon except that she’s tiny, not even seven pounds at peak fighting trim. Do not let the catzen pose fool you — she is called Demon for a reason.

What’s on the schedule for a summer Sunday?

Dinner was great:

That fed seven people. Cleaning up sucked, though. Mom and dad came down, as well as some other friends, and dad spent the entire night telling embarrassing stories about me to Brian and Tammy. I’m going to roophy his wine glass next time.

Bonus points for guessing the alt-text movie quote.

Sometimes the other team is just better. Very impressive run from the United States, and I’m really proud of them. I also feel that they were excellent sportsmen- no diving, no bitching at refs, etc. A good show all around.

The strip was a lot of fun, got a bunch of cheese at PennMac (parmesan, asiago, sharp cheddar, feta, buffalo mozz, and some romano), then went to Wholey’s, where we got ridiculous and bought a ginormous lobster. Dinner tonight is fresh crabs, lobster, corn on the cob, salad, and sliced tomatoes, and we have a bunch of people coming over. Going to spread some newspaper all over the table and pig out.

Brian and Tammy also bought me a wonderful housewarming gift- a beautiful 8″ chef knife. So heavy (the way I like them), and I am glad they did, because I have been looking at good knives for ages and can never pull the trigger. Now I have no excuse not to pick up a couple more.

One last thing- no, Ann, I’m not on and never have been on JournOlist (why would anyone even begin to think I was on that?), and I am not trying to “discipline” or punish list members to not disclose more private emails. You would think that would be a matter of honor for those who chose to join the list that they would not leak more emails, and if Ann can not figure out why it is disgusting for Goldberg to use emails to try to destroy someone using things written in confidence rather than engage them on the merits of any particular issue, I’m not going to waste my time trying to explain it to her. The Goldbergs and Althouses’s of the world really deserve each other, and that, I guess, is punishment enough.

Ghana v USA Open Thread

Some of the keys to a US victory:

Stretch their defense. Ghana has been playing a 4-5-1 formation. They’re a defensive-oriented team that has scored two goals thus far, both on PK’s.

As always, don’t give up an early goal. I have little doubt that if Ghana gets the first goal, they’ll shut down their attack and put everyone behind the ball.

Keep the fire and passion, but keep your heads. The disciplinary record has been very good so far. Now is not the time to lose your cool.

Stay organized. It’s worked so far.

Looks like we need one, along with a song with another excuse to drink only (it’s 9 o’clock in France). Shake worry off your shoulders.

Since it’s the weekend, finally…

(Note to the purists: Yes, the ‘song’ is sufficiently bad that I considered using the tag ‘Assholes’ instead of ‘Music’. But the visuals made me LOL. And if you look at the last couple posts… there are some things innocent blog-readers shouldn’t be greeted by, first thing on a summer morning.)

There is nothing quite like waking up and going to the bathroom and stepping, with your bare foot, with all your weight, into a pile of dog shit. The way it squishes between your toes and you start to slide on the tile as you react in horror in the dark, without any glasses on and wearing your pj’s, because even though you are blind and vulnerable and it is the middle of the night, you know exactly what has just happened.

That is all.
