Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

White supremacy is terrorism.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

We still have time to mess this up!

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Drill Here, Y’all

I didn’t know that the South, region that houses 36 percent of our population, consumes 44 percent of our energy. And, because of low utility rates, Southerners spend less per-capita on energy efficiency than any other region.

I guess this explains a hell of a lot of the “drill here, drill now” rhetoric coming from Republicans, as well as opposition to cap-and-trade. They have a huge short-term incentive to keep energy prices low for their base.

Consider this my obligatory Earth Day post, and an open thread.

Through a Dogs Eyes on PBS was excellent, and I highly recommend it. While watching, I had a glass of Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc that I really enjoyed. For some reason, in general, I seem to really like the Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand more than from anywhere else.

Also, don’t forget Radio Kaos at 9 central.

Personally, I am just exhausted. I can barely stay up past ten pm the last couple of weeks. I do have a tech question, though.

I would like to stream audio and video to my living room through my wireless router, but I don’t have an xbox 360 or PS3. Is there a contraption I can buy that will be able to plug into my receiver and tv that will accept data from my home network? And I’m clueless about this, so speak slowly.

Never Gonna Get It

Just watched a show on the Nat. Geo. channel about Stephen Hawking and his quest for a theory of everything, and it led to a discussion about string theory. Try as I might, I am simply unable to mentally visualize and thus fully comprehend the concept of nine dimensions. I understand what they are saying (sort of), but I simply can not visualize it. They even had little graphics to demonstrate the extra dimensions, yet that still looked two and three dimensional (for obvious reasons) and didn’t help me conceptualize nine dimensions at all.

I’m assuming my brain is just wired differently from those who grasp this.

The new money pit home money pit is going great, except for the parts that aren’t, but I guess that is how life works. Question for any readers who have made bonsai: where do you find live moss? I want to try kokedama gardening (sort of like bonsai without the pot) to deco up my shelves that will be totally awesome as soon as I finish making them, but I need live moss to wrap the dirt ball. Does the dried sheet moss that craft stores sell come back to life if you wet it? Otherwise I guess that I will have to go with some expensive mail order product. Thanks!

And a video — from the comments last night. Maybe not to everyone’s taste but I laughed so hard I almost cried.

One of Mitch McConnell’s 41 soldiers just went soft on filibustering finance reform. You can take that to the bank stuff that under the mattress.

***Update***

Also, Democrats raising cain over McConnell’s unbelievably tone-deaf bankster confab could have hit a bit close to the mark. WWKRD?

***Update 2***

Excellent news for readers with GOP Senators! As BR points out, now would be an excellent time to phone your distinguished Senatecritters and give them hell for blocking reform. Mitch McConnell will especially appreciate it if you use his back-door meeting with banksters to make your point.

***Update 3***

The article did not mention McConnell’s stupid attempt to get Democrats to start over from scratch so I assumed that this is independent from that. Still, I ought to know better than to trust Shailagh Murray to report a story straight. Take it with the appropriate dollop of skepticism.

Who gets the first interview, Jenna or Luke?

Attorney and investor Ben Quayle (R) may not have the experience in elected office that many of his GOP rivals for Arizona’s 3rd district seat do, but he’s blowing them out of the water in fundraising.

Quayle, son of former Vice President Dan Quayle, raised $550,000 since launching his campaign in mid-February, no doubt assisted by his family network.

That sum is likely to make him one of the top funded non-incumbent House candidates in the country for the first quarter.
