Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

This blog will pay for itself.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

When I was faster i was always behind.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Be a wild strawberry.

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Tasty Treats

by John Cole|  March 5, 20105:51 pm| 111 Comments

This post is in: Food, Open Threads

I just made a little trail mix with some dried fruits (cranberries, cherries, and raisins) and some almonds and other assorted nuts with a little touch of dried coconut flakes, and I threw in a little crystallized ginger, and I have to say, it really kicks up the trail mix a bit! It might not be for everybody, but it added a zip to an otherwise sweet/sour and umami dominated mix.

I liked it a lot, in other words!

*** Update ***

Damnit to hell. Crystallized ginger. Why must every random open thread have a c-object? I’m not trying to do this, folks, I swear.

If you want Congress to pass the damn bill, then make it happen. Pick up the phone and tell your Representative and Senators to get it done.

Guide for first-timers here.

I know Rachel plays for another team, but I just watched this segment and it left me physically aroused:

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

I seriously need a cold shower. More of this, please.

Right-wingers spend their whole lives seething with incomprehensible rage.

Left-wingers spend their entirely lives butthurt.

Discuss. This observation explains pretty much everything you need to know about the blogosphere.

Open Thread: Thursday Night Menu Edition

Take it away, Bad Horse’s Filly:

Couldn’t sleep the other night and was channel surfing when I stumbled upon my current celebrity chef crush, Ming Tsai. He had me at sesame seeds. I love sesame seeds and since that was the theme of the entire episode, I was hooked. I tried two of the recipes and decided they’d be good for tonight’s menu. One thing I really like about this dinner it is a one-pan meal. Quick and easy to cook and quick and easy to clean up. And dessert is a breeze to make and addictive. These are my versions of his, I didn’t change much because they were already simple and tasty.

Brace comes off on Tuesday and I start strength conditioning next week.

On topic. One of the most frustrating things about this has been the number of things I never thought about being unable to do before this accident, all made much more difficult by the fact that I live alone. For example, for a week or so, I had to go to my neighbor to tie my shoes in the morning. There are so many things you just do not think about until WHAM- you have no choice but to think about it.

Over the next couple of months, I think I am going to write a manual on how to recover from a shoulder injury and post it online, with tips and suggestions for people. I’ll post the preliminary results and you all can add in.
