Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Not all heroes wear capes.

This blog will pay for itself.

This fight is for everything.

All hail the time of the bunny!

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

This really is a full service blog.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Every decision we make has lots of baggage with it, known or unknown.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

You cannot shame the shameless.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Open Thread: Sunday Morning Cartoons Edition

Jeesh, seems like everybody’s still cranky from a long, bad week.

I know the word “anime” acts upon certain hip individuals as an emetic, but for those of you who enjoyed Spirited Away and/or Howl’s Moving Castle, I want to recommend the short (16 episodes, 4 DVDs) series Kamichu!. It’s the tale of a middle-school girl from a backwater town who wakes up one morning and discovers she’s a god… just another one of the thousands of insignificant local godlings “of whom there are as many as there are created things”… while still having all the problems inherent to being a 13-year-old girl in 1980s Japan. There are no giant robots, or mecha, or even panty shots; it’s just a gentle, droll little slice of life-plus-slightly-more, and the most Miyazaki-esque anime series I’ve seen.

In this clip, our heroine Yurie has been forced to transfer to a strange school for a month (dreadful enough for a middle schooler) so that she can attend the annual Business Convention of the Gods:

(Only in Japan would the gods not only have an annual conference, but a conference where getting your attendance card stamped at a sufficient number of educational seminars entitles one to a door prize!)

I think we are going to steal Sully’s idea and roll with our own view from your la-z-boy/couch theme for a while. Two rule:

1.) Picture must include elevated feet.

2.) No porn on the tv (Punchy, I’m looking at you, boss).

Email ’em in. Here is our first entry:

I’m feeling very lazy tonight, myself. It feels like someone sucked all the motivation out of me (and no, I did not get married today). Probably watch the Pens and the Dogs 101 on Animal Planet.

It’s the Little Things

I was showering this morning and thinking how negative the tone of this blog is so much of the time, when really things are pretty damned good. Blogging pushes you to point out everything that irritates you, and you gloss over or forget about all the really good stuff- the hot cup of coffee in the morning, the scalding shower, the clean shave, the freshly laundered sheets, the cold pillow, the purring cat, the really spicy burrito, the phone calls to mom and dad, the Steelers, and the happy dog. With that in mind, this:

thelittlethings

A lazyboy, a dog, a book, a quilt, and the mindless chatter of the food network (and because I know there will be forty people yelling “WHERE IS TUNCH,” he is in his own chair to my right).

It is all pretty good when you think about it.

*** Update ***

I’m thinking we should steal an idea from Sully and have “The View From Your Couch/Lazyboy” series.

The Browns. Seriously.

Losing Bryant McFadden is turning out to be the worst player decision the Steelers have made in a long, long while.

Open Thread: Thursday Night Menu Edition

Thank you, Bad Horse’s Filly:

A little bit of comfort food (at least Ravioli is in my house) for what has been a very cold and busy week. I make fresh pasta for special occasions – my spinach lasagna being one of them. I have only made fresh ravioli once, and once was enough. Much like making my own steamed dumplings, effort vs. reward is definitely unbalanced. Especially when with a little bit of experimentation, you can find really good fresh or frozen ravioli at a reasonable price.

On the board tonight:

1) Ravioli w/ Rosemary Basil Cream Sauce
2) Tomato-Zucchini Confetti
3) Tossed Salad
4) Sorbet or Gelato

Click on the highlight for recipes and shopping list.
