Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

So fucking stupid, and still doing a tremendous amount of damage.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

Mediocre white men think RFK Jr’s pathetic midlife crisis is inspirational. The bar is set so low for them, it’s subterranean.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you do not.

I would gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today.

Buffy Blogging

Season 5 is pretty good so far.

It is summer so I am doing some independent contracting- copy-editing, proof-reading and the like, (you can always tell when I am doing this because I blog- my way of taking a break from squinting at layouts) and so far I have to stop working to concentrate on the show several times. This was not often the case with Season 4, although “Hush” and the dream sequence Season Finale were highpoints.

Cool v. Uncool status:

Buffy’s sister- uncool
Giles’s new car- cool
Xander tired of being everyone’s ‘bitch’- cool
Riley- still uncool
Buffy in pink leather pants- cool
Spike only having cameos- uncool
My still missing the bitchy, whiny, shallow, obnoxious, and insufferable Cordelia (BEST. BUFFY. CHARACTER. EVER. Spike and Drusilla are a close second) even though she has been gone a season- uncool.
Xander’s Demonic girlfriend- very cool

Me not only watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer but blogging about it the day after my 35th birthday- a pathetic cry for help.

*** UPDATE ***

No spoilers, you rascally Buffy-luvin’ bastiches!

I am only at the beginning of season 5, and there are lots of people who aren’t even there yet. So, if you will, just general effusive praise for the series, please…

If you want soilers, go here.

Happy Birthday To Me

I am 35 today. Place your erectile dysfunction jokes, discussions of male pattern baldness, and walker jokes in the comments.

Got copies of Don Giovanni and Porgy & Bess in the mail from mom, as well as some Reagan USPS stamps and a Steelers display.

My cat’s gift was to eat the tuna I gave him for breakfast with a speed and ferocity unparalleled in the animal universe and to then vomit on the living room floor.

I fogot- I also got a bottle of Teddy Kennedy’s “Sauced” Hot Sauce

*** Update **

I also got a birthday card with a picture of a stern looking (is there any other kind) nun on the front, with the message: “Happy Birthday- Celebrate it however you like.”

On the inside, it said: “You are going to burn in hell anyway.”

The card was from my mother.

Notables For Today

Today is the anniversary of the ratification of the Constitution, as well as the Summer Solstice.

Or, as I like to call it, the day before my birthday. I turn 35 tomorrow. Thirty-five going on 12, that is.

Cross Posted at Red State

Cross posted at Red State is this summation of my thoughts on Dick Durbin, titled “Censure! Thank Goodness the Adults Are In Charge…”

OF course, some agree with me that Durbin should not be censured:

I called Senator Dick Durbin’s office this morning at (202) 224-2152 and, after being on hold for a while, laid out the reasons why I think Durbin should resign from the Senate. His staffer told me that as of this morning, he is standing by his statement comparing American soldiers to the Nazis, the Communists and the Khmer Rouge.

Deep thoughts from the blog of the year, for y’all.

Do Sean Hannity and guys like this know they are partisan hacks and they just don’t care, or do they think they are being fair and just calling things as they see them?

The Fowl Smell of Texas Justice

by John Cole|  June 20, 20052:01 pm| 24 Comments

This post is in: Open Threads

Via TalkLeft, here is a Molly Ivins piece on what she believes is wrong with Texas justice, and I am not going to comment on what she believes is wrong- it is Molly, and you can read the piece and sort things out for yourself. However, she does have this up, which I had never heard before, and I was wondering if any of you had ever heard anything about it:

But in the small towns and rural areas where heavy crime is rare, a D.A. has to whup on whoever gets caught. Sometime in the ’80s, a guy in Lubbock stole 12 frozen turkeys. They were recovered, still frozen. Not only no damage, but no defrost. The guy bought 75 years, which works out to 6.3 years per bird. Don’t steal a turkey in Lubbock.

there has to be more to this story, and I believe the ‘three strikes and your out” phenomenon started in the 90’s. Anyone know anything about this?
