And, because I can, I bring you the true secret behind Wolverine’s past, made by the same folks who produced Brokeback to the Future.

A PHD In Kicking Your Ass
I am not even slightly ashamed to admit I thought this was one of the funniest things I have seen in years.
Somewhat NSFW- features some rough language, but nothing that is not stated on a minute-by-minute basis in the comments here.
What Is Going ON AROUND HERE?
What the hell? Kos is now defending Ann Coulter?
The list of alleged plagiarism is mostly absurd, btw. This is my personal favorite:
Example 6: “Christ submerged in a jar of urine. — NEA-funded exhibit”
Alleged Source: “‘Piss Christ’ featured Christ on a cross in a vat of the artist’s own urine.” (“How the NEA Pollutes American Culture,” The Boston Globe, Jan. 24, 1995)
(Identified by Raw Story & The Rude Pundit)
If that is plagiarism, we are all plagiarists.
At any rate, Kos defending Coulter makes my head hurt.
One More Thing I Missed
Although there is some tough competition for this category, this is officially the dumbest god damn thing that right wing blogistan has gotten it’s knickers in a twist about- the idea that publishing aerial photographs of Don Rumsfeld’s vacation house in a NY Times puff piece is some sort of terrorist enabling no-no is taking stupid to a new level.
That these jackasses chose to ‘retaliate’ by publishing the home addresses of the NY Times employees gives you an idea what can happen when you combine sheer idiocy with unbridled viciousness. I would say these gutter swine should be ashamed of themselves, but pretty clearly, shame is not an option. I will try to be embarassed for them, but my gut instinct is to point at them and their disfigured personalities and yell ‘FREAK!’
And if you want to know why I am not supporting the Republicans in the fall, it is because these are the idiots who seem to be in charge ofthe modern GOP.
What I Missed In A Week
Looks like a lot of interesting things happened while I was away from blogging (and yes, the wedding was wonderful). It seems there was once again another huge dust-up involving Jeff Goldstein and some lunatic, Iraq descended further into chaos, and Republican and right-wing bloggers finally found a leak they like.
In other words, nothing much changed at all.
Additionally, it has come to my attention that the website Hot Air (Hmm- ‘ Hot Air.’ Why does that sound so familiar?) has decided that imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
FYI- Thanks for all the gift suggestions, but I decided on cash. It is always the right size, it is always the right color, and I don’t want them running up credit card bills while on their honeymoon.
Frightening Stuff
This is the kind of thing that scares the hell out of me:
The American soldiers accused of raping an Iraqi girl and then murdering her and her family may have provoked an insurgent revenge plot in which two of their comrades were abducted and beheaded last month, it has been claimed.
Pte Kristian Menchaca, 23, and Pte Thomas Tucker, 25, were snatched from a checkpoint near the town of Yusufiyah on June 16 in what was thought at the time to be random terrorist retaliation for the killing of the al-Qaeda leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in an American air strike two days earlier.
Now, however, residents of the neighbouring town of Mahmoudiyah have told The Sunday Telegraph that their kidnap was carried out to avenge the attack on a local girl Abeer Qassim Hamza, 15, and her family. They claim that insurgents have vowed to kidnap and kill another eight American troops to exact a 10-to-one revenge for the rape and murder of the girl.
There is just something creepy and sick about a mentality that suggests that killing ten random people somehow exacts revenge on someone totally unrelated.
Sunday World Cup Thread
Use this thread for an unbiased discussion about today’s game. For example, list all the reasons why Zinadine Zidane should rightfully lead France to its second trophy in three tournaments. You could also discuss what happens when the world’s best striker meets the world’s best goalkeeper (striker wins).
OK, I should mention that my wife is French. But you know I would never be influenced by that sort of thing…
***Update***
Gah. Italy very nearly owned the first half. My feeling is that when team scores on a penalty and the other scores in a fair play, the second team has the advantage. We will see if I am right.
***Update 2***
Ugh, I was right. People will be talking about what the hell happened to Zinadine Zidane for decades to come. COngratulations for making the corruption-plagued Italian squad look good. Ech.
***Update 3***
Sadly, everybody will remember this year’s World Cup championship match for this (via Rilkeblog):
* I should add that this YouTube embedding function might be the coolest thing since disco. Possibly cooler since you can watch disco on YouTube.
