Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The revolution will be supervised.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

People are complicated. Love is not.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

Consistently wrong since 2002

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

The world has changed, and neither one recognizes it.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

There are no moderate republicans – only extremists and cowards.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

People are weird.

Profiles in Outright Idiocy

The Gateway Pundit:

McClatchy Newspapers Report: “There Is No Al-Qaeda in Iraq”

UNBELIEVABLE!
Just when you thought that the mainstream media had hit rock bottom…
McClatchy Newspapers reported today that there is no Al-Qaeda in Iraq…

And… That when George Bush “tried” to tie Al-Qaeda to terror attacks in Iraq as he did in July 2007, he was being dishonest!

What the McClatchey Newspapers actually reported:

An exhaustive review of more than 600,000 Iraqi documents that were captured after the 2003 U.S. invasion has found no evidence that Saddam Hussein’s regime had any operational links with Osama bin Laden’s al Qaida terrorist network.

The Pentagon-sponsored study, scheduled for release later this week, did confirm that Saddam’s regime provided some support to other terrorist groups, particularly in the Middle East, U.S. officials told McClatchy. However, his security services were directed primarily against Iraqi exiles, Shiite Muslims, Kurds and others he considered enemies of his regime.

Why does the Pentagon hate America?

It takes a special kind of stupid to conflate pre-war Saddam/Al qaeda ties with the current presence of post-war Al Qaeda, just like it takes a special kind of stupid to confuse an AP report with an AP report about a Pentagon Study.

The Gateway Pundit is that special kind of stupid.

Ace o’ Spades, proudly carrying the banner for today’s conservative movement, carefully explains why his selective prudery isn’t anywhere near as cravenly hackish as it appears:

I know what the liberals are asking: Why is [Spitzer] such a big deal, and Sen. David Vitter’s previous experience with call girls isn’t?

Shut up, that’s why.

Bill Buckley wept.

A Comparison

by John Cole|  March 11, 20087:16 am| 64 Comments

This post is in: Politics, War on Terror aka GSAVE®, Assholes, Outrage

I stand by my earlier assessments- to hell with Eliot Spitzer. Spitzer was a guy who used his office to essentially blackmail people to keep from being indicted, who used all sorts of hardball tactics to destroy people, and who seemed to relish it. he was a self-righteous crusader who used his office as a cudgel, bludgeoning people and ruining their reputations.

And he enjoyed it. So while I share Tim’s earlier concerns about what started this prosecution (and we will see how the Siegalman/Roger Stone angle plays out), and I think we live in a pretty screwed up country that a couple thousand dollars in transactions made by a multi-millionaire is all that is needed to start a huge investigation, I really have a hard time mustering any sympathy. If the shoe were on the other foot, Spitzer would be holding a press conference trying to destroy Client #9. Some of you may think of him as a reformer because you liked his results, I look at him as part of the problem.

Regardless, it is depressing to the nth order that Spitzer is going to go down for getting his rocks off with an escort, but this disaster hasn’t cost anyone so much as a cut in pay:

An exhaustive review of more than 600,000 Iraqi documents that were captured after the 2003 U.S. invasion has found no evidence that Saddam Hussein’s regime had any operational links with Osama bin Laden’s al Qaida terrorist network.

The Pentagon-sponsored study, scheduled for release later this week, did confirm that Saddam’s regime provided some support to other terrorist groups, particularly in the Middle East , U.S. officials told McClatchy . However, his security services were directed primarily against Iraqi exiles, Shiite Muslims, Kurds and others he considered enemies of his regime.

The new study of the Iraqi regime’s archives found no documents indicating a “direct operational link” between Hussein’s Iraq and al Qaida before the invasion, according to a U.S. official familiar with the report.

He and others spoke to McClatchy on condition of anonymity because the study isn’t due to be shared with Congress and released before Wednesday.

President Bush and his aides used Saddam’s alleged relationship with al Qaida, along with Iraq’s supposed weapons of mass destruction, as arguments for invading Iraq after the September 11, 2001 , terrorist attacks.

Then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld claimed in September 2002 that the United States had “bulletproof” evidence of cooperation between the radical Islamist terror group and Saddam’s secular dictatorship.

Again, I am not letting Spitzer off the hook for being an abusive prosecutor and a first-class hypocrite (and I am so sick and tired of these assholes dragging their poor wives onto the podium after they get busted). Eliot Spitzer is losing his job, Bush is still in office and Don Rumsfeld is probably scheduling a book tour.

To me, that is criminal.

What started the Spitzer investigation? It’s not as obvious as you think.

Obligatory troll repellent: Arguing that tilted justice is not justice does not excuse the accused.

Asshole of the Year Nominee

by John Cole|  March 10, 20089:39 pm| 44 Comments

This post is in: Republican Stupidity, Assholes

An early entrant into the Asshole of the Year contest- Rep. Sally Kern:

Representative Sally Kern said that gays are a bigger threat to American society than terrorists on Saturday.

“I honestly think it’s the biggest threat even that our nation has,” the lawmaker said. “Even more so than terrorists or Islam, which I think is a big threat.”

“I’m not gay bashing,” Kern said in the recording, “but according to God’s word, that is not the right kind of lifestyle. It has deadly consequences.”

Kern said that the education system is indoctrinating children as young as two years old into the gay lifestyle. “The homosexual agenda is destroying our country,” said Kern.

“Studies show that no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than a few decades,” she said.

My own personal study has shown that Sally Kern is an asshole.
