The only Twitter feed, or whatever you call them, that I like, other than Shaq’s, is Jay Rosen’s. I liked his PressThink blog too, but the posts were too long for me.
I’ve never seen him this mad before — link, link, link, link.

From the hand job Rick Stengel just gave Glenn Beck:
If you get your information from liberal sources, the crowd numbered about 70,000, many of them greedy racists. If you get your information from conservative sources, the crowd was hundreds of thousands strong, perhaps as many as a million, and the tenor was peaceful and patriotic.
I long for the day when both Time and Newsweek go under. It won’t be long now.
This is even worse than the puff piece the Post did on Beck a few years back.

Limbaugh will enjoy the scorn. But he’s a disgusting opportunist and racist. And his acceptability – indeed total dominance – on the right is one reason decent people will steer clear of the GOP for the foreseeable future. There is no nuance or doubt here. This is a man who wants a race war. Until the GOP throws him out, they deserve oblivion.
I don’t disagree, but the idea of linking decency with political success always amuses me. The GOP won’t be destroyed by race-baiting because “decent people” will stay away, it will be destroyed by race-baiting because in another generation, America will be living Ross Douthat’s nightmare. The idea that there is any justice in politics is silly. The right’s race-baiting is stupid not because it is immoral and offensive. It’s stupid because of demographic trends. If the population were becoming whiter, rather than more diverse, the race-baiting would work like a charm.

Q: Is our children learning?
A: No, they is not.
The entire depressing rundown, with the most popular answers, can be found here (I shamelessly stole their table).

Somewhat related, the #michellemalkinmath tweet thread is pretty amusing.

Can someone please explain to me how this is not cruel and unusual punishment:
The State of Ohio plans to try again next week to execute a convicted rapist-murderer, after a team of technicians spent two hours on Tuesday in an unsuccessful effort to inject him with lethal drugs.
This is the first time an execution by lethal injection in the United States has failed and then been rescheduled, according to Richard C. Dieter, executive director of the Death Penalty Information Center, in Washington.
The only similar case in modern times, Mr. Dieter said, occurred in Louisiana in 1946, when electric shock failed to kill a convicted murderer, Willie Francis. He was electrocuted the next year, after the United States Supreme Court ruled that executing a prisoner in the wake of a failed first attempt was constitutional.
Tuesday’s one-week postponement was ordered by Gov. Ted Strickland after he was alerted by the Ohio corrections department that technicians at the state prison in Lucasville, some 70 miles east of Cincinnati, had struggled for more than two hours to find a suitable vein in either the arms or the legs of the inmate, Romell Broom, 53.
Broom kidnapped, raped and murdered a 14 year old girl and is quite clearly a scumbag of the first order, but that is just crazy. We need to enter the civilized world and end the death penalty.

Some days I honestly think the current Republican party is little more than a long running Second City comedy sketch:
Protesters who attended Saturday’s Tea Party rally in Washington found a new reason to be upset: Apparently they are unhappy with the level of service provided by the subway system.
Rep. Kevin Brady called for a government investigation into whether the government-run subway system adequately prepared for this weekend’s rally to protest government spending and government services.
Seriously.
The Texas Republican on Wednesday released a letter he sent to Washington’s Metro system complaining that the taxpayer-funded subway system was unable to properly transport protesters to the rally to protest government spending and expansion.
The WaPo has more:
Rep. Kevin Brady ( R ) said an 80-year-old woman and her 60-year-old daughter were forced to walk and pay for a cab because the subway system was so crowded. He said he heard many complaints from people who traveled long distances to attend the event, which served to challenge some of President Obama’s signature policies.
Oh. My. God. They had to take a cab? The horror of it all. No doubt those two kids were carrying signs that said “Keep government out of my Medicare!”
While it seems like blogging is easier with the wingnuts going so crazy, it actually is harder than you would think. What can I possibly say that would be clever or funny enough to top these stories?
*** Update ***
It gets even better:
Back in July HR3288, a Transportation and HUD appropriations bill, came up for a vote. It included $150 million for emergency maintenance funding for the DC Metro.
The only appropriate response to people like this is open, mocking laughter.
I concur. More here.

Prepare for a complete and total shit fit from the 101st Chairborne, because the US is canceling the construction of missile defense sites in Czech Republic and Poland.
I’ll wait for Larison’s take, but I will say this- what would you think if China or Russia were building missile sites in Mexico, Cuba, and Puerto Rico? How do you think we would react to that?
BTW- Every time I think of missile defense I am reminded of the John Rogers classic from several years back- “I Miss Republicans.” His word-fu is strong.

Should have known Goldfarb would have the vapors.
