Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

Not loving this new fraud based economy.

We still have time to mess this up!

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

The words do not have to be perfect.

“I was told there would be no fact checking.”

Their shamelessness is their super power.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

A tremendous foreign policy asset… to all of our adversaries.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

“A king is only a king if we bow down.” – Rev. William Barber

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

This fight is for everything.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

This is dead girl, live boy, a goat, two wetsuits and a dildo territory.  oh, and pink furry handcuffs.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

Fear and negativity are contagious, but so is courage!

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

Jon Ossoff, Always Doing the Work

No matter what’s going on, Trump craziness, indictments, the latest shiny object, I find comfort in checking out Jon Ossoff’s twitter feed.

He is always doing the work.  Truly inspirational.

Name your top 5 hardest working senators.  Bring receipts if you can!

Also, if this comment by Angry Staffer isn’t begging to be a rotating tag, I don’t know what is.  Too bad it’s so long.

The GOP has not only ceded the moral high ground – they’ve burrowed into a pile of shit at the bottom of the valley and built a fort there.

Masterful Gambit, Sir

I see no possible pitfalls here:

so Elon Musk’s money and leadership is in charge of nearly all of Trump’s get-out-the-vote operation?

lol, lmao

From The Guardian, an exclusive: “Trump Voter Turnout Now Largely Run by Elon Musk-Backed Group”:

“But while the Trump campaign once predicted having multiple Pacs drive the rest of the vote, with six weeks until the election, only America Pac has a material presence of 300 to 400 paid and part-time people knocking on doors in each of the seven battleground states.

America Pac also remains the only entity – Trump campaign or otherwise – with a target to do three “passes” of homes of likely Trump voters in every battleground state before election day.

Turning Point Action, run by the rightwing activist Charlie Kirk and touted by the Trump campaign, for instance, has a smaller footprint; it has a presence in Arizona, Wisconsin and two specific districts in Michigan and Nevada, after dropping Georgia from its initial list.

The situation means America Pac now accounts for an outsize proportion of the unglamorous but critical work of door-knocking and canvassing Trump voters in battleground states to get them to return a ballot.”

Of course, Trump’s campaign  also claims to have its own volunteer army. Sounds like that’s going well, too:

I won’t even repeat what Clay Higgins said about Haitians.  Vile and disgusting, just like their dear leader.

Show me a Republican that’s not vile, and I imagine it will be Mitt Romney.  And he’s not vile; just a coward.  He should have left the Republican party.  Or maybe he is vile; there’s the whole “dog on the roof of the car” story.  Sadly, my Dogs against Romney car magnet faded into nothingness.  Sad.  That’s when I learned to always buy 2 car magnets for the great ones – one for the car and one for the fridge.

My statement on Rep. Clay Higgins. pic.twitter.com/YPpdcgDSD9

I like Hakeem’s style.  Tells it like it is.  Doesn’t mince words.

I feel like we need a good image of Hakeem Jeffries for Balloon Juice.

Door #1

Door #2

Interesting to see that the two images I chose from about a hundred must have been from the same day because he’s wearing the same suit and tie, and the same pin.  Unless that’s his uniform? :-)

I hope that seeing this take no prisoners approach from the Democratic leader of the House – and some of our ass-kicking new House members – will inspire more of our Senate candidates to bring some serious fight to the game.

Bright Dawn Open Thread: Jimmy Carter Awaits His 100th Birthday

… And even more importantly, he says, his chance to vote for Kamala Harris!

Former President Jimmy Carter is turning 100. His grandson tells OutFront "what he's really excited for is to go cast his ballot for Kamala Harris." pic.twitter.com/t5rvtZ9XIm

— Erin Burnett OutFront (@OutFrontCNN) September 18, 2024

There’s an old proverb about a dish best served cold… Per the Washington Post, “As Jimmy Carter nears 100, he is buoyed by Harris’s run for president” [gift link]

… Carter has been in hospice for 18 months, and his health slipped further after his wife, Rosalynn, died in November, two members of his family said. But recently, as the former president’s 100th birthday approaches on Oct. 1, he is talking more, asking about the fast-changing 2024 presidential campaign and delighting in the momentum behind Vice President Kamala Harris, the new Democratic nominee. He is even eating mini cupcakes — red velvet and caramel are his favorites.

James Earl “Chip” Carter III said in an interview with The Washington Post that his father spent days watching all of the speeches from the Democratic National Convention last month that he recorded for him. “He thought Michelle Obama was the best, and he thought Kamala was great, too,” he said.

For Carter’s birthday next month, a concert in Atlanta, a 100-mile bike ride near his hometown of Plains, Ga., and other events are planned. But when Chip Carter told his father that many people believe he is trying to stay alive to reach his birthday, the former president pushed back: “He said he didn’t care about that. It’s just a birthday. He said he cared about voting for Kamala Harris.”

Carter’s state of Georgia is critical to the November election. Biden beat Donald Trump in 2020 by less than 1 percent of the vote in the state, and Carter’s family said he can’t wait to cast his mail-in ballot for Harris…
