President of the United States and Israel Bibi Netanyahu gave a speech today to Congress, explaining to your Congressmen how they need to act in support of Israel in the upcoming “peace” negotiations lest they be flamed by Leon Wieseltier as gay anti-Semites, and EEMOM has requested a thread about it so you all can fight each other.
Thread granted. Commence flaming.
Personally, I am so over this shit, but I will give you this. Here is a joint statement from Bibi Netanyahu and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton from a few months back (and I first saw this in the comments at OTB, so credit to them):
Prime Minister Netanyahu and Secretary Clinton had a good discussion today, with a friendly and productive exchange of views on both sides. Secretary Clinton reiterated the United States’ unshakable commitment to Israel’s security and to peace in the region.
The Prime Minister and the Secretary agreed on the importance of continuing direct negotiations to achieve our goals. The Secretary reiterated that “the United States believes that through good-faith negotiations, the parties can mutually agree on an outcome which ends the conflict and reconciles the Palestinian goal of an independent and viable state, based on the 1967 lines, with agreed swaps, and the Israeli goal of a Jewish state with secure and recognized borders that reflect subsequent developments and meet Israeli security requirements.” Those requirements will be fully taken into account in any future peace agreement.
Here is what Obama said last week, “throwing Israel under the bus”:
So while the core issues of the conflict must be negotiated, the basis of those negotiations is clear: a viable Palestine, a secure Israel. The United States believes that negotiations should result in two states, with permanent Palestinian borders with Israel, Jordan, and Egypt, and permanent Israeli borders with Palestine. We believe the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states. The Palestinian people must have the right to govern themselves, and reach their full potential, in a sovereign and contiguous state.
You can see how that is totally different and reinforces this jackasses opinion that Obama is “an anti-Israel President.”
Again, the biggest threat to the nation of Israel is not externally located, but from her loudmouth supporters, Bibi Netanyahu, and the wingnuts using this issue for domestic political gain. They’ve lost all credibility, their bullying tactics are alienating supporters, and they are their own worst enemy.
I also apologize for using this thread title twice. I’m slacking. You do this shit for ten years.
