It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

When even Fred Hiatt can see through your nonsense…

by Dennis G.|  November 24, 201212:42 pm| 55 Comments

This post is in: Fables Of The Reconstruction, Open Threads, Did You Know John McCain Was A POW?, Good News For Conservatives

The Susan Rice hysteria of the nutters has reached the point where even the Washington Post Editorial page is calling it out:

The oddity of the Republican response to what happened in Benghazi is partly this focus on half-baked conspiracy theories rather than on the real evidence of failures by the State Department, Pentagon and CIA in protecting the Benghazi mission. What’s even stranger is the singling out of Ms. Rice, a Rhodes scholar and seasoned policymaker who, whatever her failings, is no one’s fool.

Could it be, as members of the Congressional Black Caucus are charging, that the signatories of the letter are targeting Ms. Rice because she is an African American woman? The signatories deny that, and we can’t know their hearts. What we do know is that more than 80 of the signatories are white males, and nearly half are from states of the former Confederacy. You’d think that before launching their broadside, members of Congress would have taken care not to propagate any falsehoods of their own.

Somehow all of this is good news for John McCain.

So how about another open thread.

Also, too: football.

Cheers

Nothing he does can save him

This post is in: Election 2014, Lindsey Graham's Fee Fees, Open Threads, Assholes, DC Press Corpse, Did You Know John McCain Was A POW?, Good News For Conservatives

Poor Lindsey Graham. In less than eighteen months he’ll be defeated in South Carolina’s 2014 GOP primary. He is the number one target of the Club for Growth. He is talking tough about the UN Ambassador and yelling “Benghaz!” over and over again as if it is a magic word that will save him from doom. It won’t help. Count Chocola wants his blood.

And this–more than anything else–explains every action Lindsey will take in the coming days, weeks and months.

And it helps to explain John McCain’s bitter panic as well. Lindsey will be his last sycophant standing when the 113th Congress comes to town. Lindsey will be the last Senator left who will automatically treat everything McCain does as “awesome”. McCain will do what he can to save his fanboy, but it will not matter. Even if they both went full Ni-CLANG on President Obama 24/7 (and they’re both almost there), they will not be able to save poor old Lindsey from the wrath of the wingnuts.

Any journalist who treats either of these doddering old fools as relevant will prove themselves to be hacks. As there are so many hacks in the media, we can expect a lot of fluffing and tire swinging as McCain and his sidekick sink into oblivion. This is known.

Cheers

“Nobody died in Iran-Contra”

by Dennis G.|  November 15, 20122:36 pm| 45 Comments

This post is in: War, Assholes, Did You Know John McCain Was A POW?, Mainstream Media's McCain Mancrush

<a href=”http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/8186301309/” title=”Iran-Contra-begins by dengre.bj, on Flickr”><img src=”http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8206/8186301309_39c3140df1.jpg” width=”485″ height=”500″ alt=”Iran-Contra-begins”></a>

That quote in the headline is something that John McCain actually said this week. Really.

We all know that McCain is a bitter, angry old man and perhaps the sorest loser in the history of American politics, but that does not obscure the fact that at his center he is an ignorant, lying asshole.

At least 30,000 folks died as a result a direct result of the Contras and their war in Nicaragua. The Iran-Contra funded covert project spilled over into El Salvador where another 75,000 people lost their lives and to Guatemala where CIA funded death squads helped helped to push the body count to over 200,000. The Iraq-Iran war that Team Reagan was funding with the scandal added another 450,000 to the count. And then there was the death of the guy who disclosed Reagan’s partnership with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards.

I think it would be fair to add the death tolls from some of the other covert wars or the Reagan era as well. Angola is a good example of one them. To help prop up Apartheid South Africa, Reagan funded a civil war there where over 500,000 people were killed (and where hidden US funded land mines are still killing people every day).

Then there are the legacy/blowback body counts of the Iran-Contra scandal. It allowed Iran to promote the rise of Hezbollah in Lebanon: which led to the bombing of a US Marine barracks in 1983 and other acts of terror throughout the 1980s that the Reagan Administration responded to with gross negligence and weakness.  Then there was the covert funding of Afghan rebels which led to the creation of al-Qaeda, the attacks on 9-11, the decade of the Bush Wars and the attack on Benghazi that John McCain is pretending to care about.

I can’t think of any American politician who disgusts me more than John McCain (including Tom DeLay).

Let me fix his quote for him: “Nobody who was white that I need to pretend to care about died in Iran-Contra.”

Cheers

It was a draw, at least for the first quarter hour

Crikey. So apparently the entire world, except for morons and some talking heads (but I repeat myself) thinks that Obama won that one.

And the entire world is correct.

Even Luke “I cover Capitol Hill for NBC News. Been sweating it out in the streets of a runaway American dream since 1985.” Russert knows Obama calmly and politely dropped Mitt to the floor and trod on his balls for about 75 minutes, and Luke Russert is a dumb as paint.

If you have not watched the debate, then you should. Seeing Mitt’s slick demeanor slowly disintegrate into that of a narky, jittery, fussbudget snake-oil salesman is a pleasure all of its own, but what is more fun is watching Obama pleasantly yet firmly take control of the evening, and use his time to lay out clearly what he has achieved and what he wants to achieve if he is given the chance. This was a President talking to his nation, and it was good.

There is a transcript here (hopefully this link will work FYWP) as well.

I find the beginning of the debate so fascinating that this post is all about the first seventeen minutes or so, and I will deal with the rest tomorrow. This post is quite long, so you may wish to make yourself a cup of tea.

You know how those patriots bought-and-paid-for hacks want us to get rid of the traitor-in-chief for revealing operational secrets of special forces ops?

Ooops:

A detailed first-person account of the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, written under a pseudonym by a Navy Seal who participated in the mission and was present at bin Laden’s death, will be published next month, according to two publishing executives familiar with the deal.

Bonus ooops:

According to a description of the book, provided by a publishing executive, the author gives a “blow-by blow narrative of the assault, beginning with the helicopter crash that could have ended Owen’s life straight through to the radio call confirming bin Laden’s death, is an essential piece of modern history.”…

The author also recalls his childhood in Alaska, his grueling preparation to become a Seal and other previously unreported Seal missions.

I’ve given up seeking a sane GOP.  I’d settle for one that took its meds regularly.

I have SO got to get the poster of this–Now with extra teabagging!

Behold!  What may be the single greatest piece of 21st Century art.  Buy one for all your conservative friends!  UPDATE:  It can be found here.

When I get home from work, I have to begin packing for vacation, which starts on Saturday morning.  Only one more day of being pretty much useless at work until we go!  San Diego, with your 70’s and 80’s weather, and your Comic-con, here I come!   I’m looking forward to the Battlestar Galactica panel and the Dexter panel.  I’ll suffer through attending the Breaking Dawn Pt. 2 panel with my daughter because it’s her first Comic-con.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a jobs thread around here.  It’s perhaps time for another.  If you need a job, post your request.  If you have or know of an available job, post that information.  Also, too, open thread.

ETA–as always from me, USA Jobs should be your first stop for an employment search.

Speaking of wingnut patriotism, Deadbeat Dad Joe Walsh was on the Ashleigh Banfield show on CNN and got into what has been described as a 10-minute long shouting match with the usually genial and inoffensive host over his remarks last week that his opponent, Tammy Duckworth is not a “real hero” because, unlike John McCain, she actually talks about being in a war.  NOTE–I haven’t seen the video.  It’s blocked at work.

Here is a link on Talking Points Memo.  Walsh looks like hell, like he hasn’t slept in days.  My God, that melt down is fucking epic!  He’s blaming the Duckworth campaign for video taping him.  It’s Duckworth’s fault that he’s a prick.

This post is in: Assholes, Did You Know John McCain Was A POW?, Sociopaths, Teabagger Stupidity

Deadbeat dad and all around douchebag Joe Walsh kicks up the boorishness another notch:

WALSH: Understand something about John McCain. His political advisers, day after day, had to take him and almost throw him against a wall and hit him against the head and say, “Senator, you have to let people know you served! You have to talk about what you did!” He didn’t want to do it, wouldn’t do it. Day after day they had to convince him. Finally, he talked a little bit about it, but it was very uncomfortable for him. That’s what’s so noble about our heroes. Now I’m running against a woman who, my God, that’s all she talks about. Our true heroes, it’s the last thing in the world they talk about. That’s why we’re so indebted and in awe of what they’ve done.

First things first. That Joe Walsh, another wingnut warmongering chickenhawk, would even dare to criticize double amputee Tammy Duckworth’s service, is enough to wish the motherfucker would go hunting with Dick Cheney.

Now let’s unpack the rest of this nonsense. The notion that McCain refused to talk about his service is simply absurd. It’s all he ever talked about, to the point that I had to make a new tag for this website. The theme of his campaign was… “COUNTRY FIRST,” which was a direct reference to his service and time as a POW. Here’s a link to McCain’s introduction video at the Republican convention in 2008. For demonstration purposes, here is a screenshot of the opening frame:

The open words were “Some know him as a warrior, a soldier…”

These sociopaths will just lie about anything. It doesn’t even have to be something that happened decades ago, but something that happened last week. They just don’t care, and shamelessly spew nonsense.
