Ok, I stole the headline from Fark. Meet Mike Huckabee’s son.

Death Penalty News
New Jersey has banned the death penalty!
In signing the bill, Gov. Jon Corzine called it a “momentous day” and made the Garden State the first state to ban capital punishment since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated it in 1976.
Corzine on Sunday commuted the sentences of eight men sitting on the state’s death row. They will now serve life in prison without parole, according to the governor’s office.
“It’s a day of progress for the state of New Jersey and for the millions of people across our nation and around the globe who reject the death penalty as a moral or practical response to the grievous, even heinous, crime of murder,” Corzine said.
Wonderful news. Can’t wait to see the zealots on the Right (to life?) side react!

Grades are done, the Steelers suck, WVU needs a new coach.
You need an open thread. Here it is.

Interesting Cancer News
GlaxoSmithKline may be onto something big:
GlaxoSmithKline Plc’s drug Tykerb, in an unexpected finding, cut the number of breast cancer stem cells by half in 30 patients, and two-thirds were cancer free after follow-up treatment with other therapies.
The finding, reported today at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium in Texas, supports the newest theory in cancer, that a tiny number of stem cells lurking within tumors are the driving force that fuels their growth. Researchers from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston said the finding may be a first step toward changing the way cancer is treated.
Excellent news. There is, however, still no cure for modern Republicanism.
FU, RichRod
I extend a middle finger to you:
According to WVU players, at a team meeting Sunday afternoon at the Puskar Center, Head Football Coach Rich Rodriguez announced that he is leaving West Virginia University to take over the football program at the University of Michigan.
Rodriguez left the meeting without talking with reporters.
Rodriguez’s wife Rita, was seen crying both before and after the meeting.
She did speak with reporters, but would not comment on what was said at the meeting.
Reports surfaced Friday afternoon that Rodriguez flew to Ohio to meet with Michigan about its open coaching position. The Sporting News reported Rodriguez flew to Toledo to negotiate with the Michigan representatives. The Detroit Free Press cited two sources who confirmed the meeting.
Bastard.
*** Update ***
The prick isn’t even coaching the bowl game. And the Steelers are sucking.
One Thing to Remember
While watching the Huckabee freak-out on the right, their contempt for the people they were pandering too was well known. Remember David Kuo? A flashback:
In the book, Kuo, who quit the White House in 2003, accuses Karl Rove’s political staff of cynically hijacking the faith-based initiatives idea for electoral gain. It assails Bush for failing to live up to his promises of boosting the role of religious organizations in delivering social services.
White House strategists “knew ‘the nuts’ were politically invaluable, but that was the extent of their usefulness,” Kuo writes, according to the cable channel MSNBC, which obtained an advance copy.
“Sadly, the political affairs folks complained most often and most loudly about how boorish many politically involved Christians were…. National Christian leaders received hugs and smiles in person and then were dismissed behind their backs and described as ‘ridiculous’ and ‘out of control.’ ”
The only thing that is new is that the inmates now appear to be running the asylum.
